You are about to buy a bass, but the only reason not to get it is a piezo pickup that has an inbuilt preamp? If you think a piezo creates only hiss, you should test the bass. I have had an Affirma 4 (fretted), and now own a fretless 5. Both are from the first batch, 90's.

That's where the voltage and amperage ratings come in. Most wire is rated at 600V. A 1kV amp into a 4 ohm load is 63v. 14 gauge wire is rated at 15A. Said 1kV into 4 ohms is 16A. However, those ratings are for constant full voltage and current. Amps never run at constant full voltage and current. Even 50% duty cycle would be unusual.

As much as I adore The Who and Quadrophenia I have little time for these orchestral reworkings... Alfie Boe singing Love Reign O'er Me is hard to erase from memory... So I didn't have high hopes for this. In fact I thought the whole thing seemed a bit ridiculous. Until I saw the trailer the other day and it actually looks to be very impressive. The brief snippets of the score sound utterly majestic. A comment from someone who's already seen it advises it's about as authentic a ballet as Tommy is an opera, so make of that what you will! -

Peaches is coming along surprisingly well. It's still a sod with the timing but I'm currently impressed with how well I'm learning it. -

In my mind the biggie here is to be certain that there is no possibility of a short between the conductors. That would not bode well for the health of a solid state amplifier.

I think the key limitation here is that the Xvive U4 that Ian is using is mono not stereo? -

The CQ does not include an internal matrix but feeding the base into two inputs would work well. Slightly off-topic, but the chorus works like a dream for a bass. -

There are many ways of looking at PAT. Before there were really defined standards, Panasonic would revoke the guarantee on any item that had a PAT test label. If we go back many years, especially the early days of valve amps, there were some lethal products around and the dangers were very real, but the various standards passed in the intervening years mean that equipment itself is very safe. The venues are another matter, as @Phil Starrhas mentioned. A socket tester is your friend https://www.screwfix.com/p/kewtech-kewcheck-103-13a-socket-tester-230v-ac/45558. The other point is that your lips are ultra snsitive and a very small elctrostatic charge could be just as likely from a microphone. Perhaps a foam shield? https://www.andertons.co.uk/shure-a58ws-blk-foam-windscreen-for-sm58-beta58a-sm48-and-565sd-mics/ will both protect you from shocks and also protect your mic from saliva.
