  1. Past hour
  2. See what you think to this. I really liked it. Surprising control over the repeated harmonics at the beginning, too.
  3. Cheers Phil. It has been a bit of a stressfull couple of days. I should have a Bugera VeyronM coming today. I might have been able to afford something a bit more if I'd got an instant refund on the Ashdown. Hopefully it'll be fine. They've got a decent reputation. When I've got a refund I might buy the DeltaBass, I'm quite taken with it. It looks pretty 😎 😁
  4. I am so tempted to buy another Chinese neck of fleaBay but at the moment I can’t play due to bursitis in my left elbow, so I am putting it off to see if I recover. I turn 70 shortly so recovery is not a given: arthritis seems to be getting its claws into me. If/when I am ready to jump, it’s going to be a fretless jazz. Bizarrely these seem to sell for about £20 more than the fretted ones, so it would be somewhere around £110. Prior to the bursitis, I had been enjoying playing my Sire U5 fretless shortie and was wondering whether I could manage a full scale fretless but didn’t want to lash out on a new bass (like a Sire P7). I have a couple of bitsas I have put together, so one would provide the body. I have to say that putting these basses together is very addictive and with the quality of these “cheap” necks, it can be done for less than the price of a Squier Affinity but with much better hardware. Is this an addiction?
  5. Body all finished and waxed with Liberon Bison Wax.

The guitar features an original neck shape and Dinky-shaped body that the artist was particularly particular about, and the electric section is equipped with an Ultra Noiseless™ Vintage Jazz Bass® pickup and the latest preamp, inheriting the playability and sound quality of the previous model. In addition, a new feature not available in the previous model is the inclusion of a thin pickguard of approximately 1.0 mm sandwiched under the gold anodized pickguard of approximately 1.2 mm, which gives the same playing feel as a 3-ply pickguard while maintaining the same appearance.’ One of my Feedback links. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/137382-feedback-for-harry/#comment-1241408

  7. It's going to be like that old gag - Jimmy Page's telecaster sold a lot of Les Pauls. This pedal is going to sell a huge amount of HXOnes.
  8. Throw in a BBQ and absolutely this!
  9. Can't believe that this is still here. The cost of living shenanigans we're all going through have a lot to answer for. GLWTS
  10. My band Syncolima have our new album coming out next Friday Syncolima - Bandcamp - Move Mountains 1st single - Shipwrecked Video 2nd single - Black Dog and the Bleak Sky Video Saturday 6th Sep - We're playing at Billy Bootlegger's in Nottingham Great line up of Stoner grunge Riffage! Tickets
  11. MXR M85 bass distortion. Great distortion pedal in good condition. Velcro on the bottom. £90 delivered. Any questions just ask 👍
  12. Nicest one of those beasties I've seen. GLWTS. Not see many like that down the Dog and Duck on a Friday.
  13. I've got a Fender AVRI 74 Jazz Bass with TI flats on and it's a lot of fun. Great for reggae and also '70's funk stuff. Also a great combination for using a pick with to get that clicky old-school sound. I actually prefer that bass to a Jazz with roundwounds nowadays.
  14. Yep, I think that's happened to several of our BC fam.
  15. Pino Palladino (fretless MM) using roundwounds. Louis Johnson (fretted MM) using flatwounds - and slapping. If there were rules, just break them.
  16. I can check against mine later. Not sure because of the way the bridge and tailpiece work on Ricks.
  17. An outdoor 1 hour gig in the afternoon sun with a PA designed for the job that someone else set up less than an hour from home. Or a normal pub gig but starting at 7 instead of 9 with a responsive crowd
  18. Yeah, some folks have relabelled the slogan from “play for life” to “pay for life”.😂
  19. I hope this is a suitable place to post the following; I think it is probably related to DB playing, though there may be other factors. Currently, I'm having a bit of trouble with both elbows; pain in particular when having the elbows bent for a few minutes, e.g. the right elbow when playing a bass guitar, and also some general fatigue and loss of grip strength in both arms making it harder to play upright for longer periods. The local physiotherapist thought this was all in the forearm causing referred pain to the elbow. Unfortunately, the exercises they recommended have not helped. I contacted my GP but there will be a wait for any further assistance, and it's unclear how long. Perhaps the DB is the cause, given that it's a repetitive activity that will give the hands and forearms a lot of work. I've already got light strings (Evah Pirazzi) and I'm not sure what else could work. A week or so ago the local luthier had a look and told me that what was needed to reduce the tension was shooting the fingerboard so they could improve the action. This made the instrument a little easier to play but produced unpleasant buzzes and rattles. Reducing these requires raising the action again... In any case, whatever it is is making double bass more tiring to play and guitar (bass or otherwise) painful. When I had lessons I don't recall any issue with my technique, though I might book another lesson just to check on that. Perhaps it needs someone with relevant medical knowledge to take a look at my posture, though. Has anyone else experience elbow issues like this? Do you have any thoughts if so?
  20. Not in an irrational predjudices thread it isn't!
  21. Everyone likes some feline finish on their bass, no?
  22. That's hilarious 😂 It's not my area to convince you otherwise so of course just play what makes you happy 👍
