Hi pete, I’d keep an eye out for an AVRI 62 or 63 P, they are exceptional basses, I’ve got a 62 and I believe the difference is the 63 has a fuller neck profile where mine is slimmer from front to back which I find comfortable, they also hold their value and are pretty sought after, I can’t comment on Japanese I’ve never had one

I would go mag as long as you're not using guts or similar that don't create a field. My view is that you really want a PUP that produces a different tone to the Realist to give you wider options. I found that using a mag, which gave me very reliable and quite thumpy lows, I could EQ the bridge PUP to give me more highs (and cut some of what were to my ear less toneful mids coming from the bridge PUP), and then tune the balance of the two to get close to the sound in my head. I never get anywhere near perfect, but got close enough 👍

Replacement Speakers. The old chestnut that never quite goes away..
Phil Starr replied to VTypeV4's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've done a quick look over my morning tea. I'll stick the results up below but before I do can I ask what you want to get out of this? If it is just a cab that is an Ashdown and sounds like an Ashdown then contacting @Ashdown Engineering is probably the way to go. They'll probably provide you with a couple of 8ohm drivers at a reasonable price, the cab will retain it's value and it's sound. @Stub Mandrel's suggestion is a good one and I'm happy to help you set up WinISD if you get stuck. It's free and it works If you want to go ahead with a mod then it's a question of what you want to get out of the mod and how much surgery/woodwork you want to do on the cab. If it has a tweeter you might want to look at the crossover too so it could be slightly more complex than just re-tuning the cab. So this is the initial look at a pair of Celestion Pulse 10's in a 100l cab tuned to 50hz. For comparison there are two other more 'normal' responses in smaller cabs. That's partly to illustrate what we are all saying about the cab being 'a bit big' for the Pulses. Interestingly for a nerd like myself the response in your cab will be almost exactly that of an Extended 3db Bass Shelf/EBS-3 response which is a 'thing'. You just need to know this is the result. The bass shelf works well for bass guitar as the lower frequencies get reinforced by any hard surfaces near the cab but you just need to know that this will happen when you swap the speakers. Green your cab with the Pulses 100l tuned to 50Hz Blue is maximally flat SBB4 resonse in a 65l cab Red is a more typical commercial cab response in a 45l cab -

Literally THE same thing for me. P basses, the perfect one trick pony!

Fenders generally have a curved slot, so need a curved nut; most other brands use a flat slot. Some Graph-techs (although no bass ones I could see) come with a curved base with a little nubbin in the middle so they fit flat slots too. They have loads of versions so make sure to get the right one.

I don't do the falling out with people but I do ignore them. I was in a band with the drummer kid from BGT and his parents. It was a really good band. They're conspirancy theorists (well the dad is) and I just ignore them when I see them the band didn't end well, singer's ego etc Horrible horrible people Got sacked by a band and the bass player didnt even come to the meeting. I was pleased to be going though, bass player had been ignoring me on gigs for a few months. He was very jealous of me, no idea why though. I'm not special or anything like that I', still friends with the drummer and singer though. Always have a chat when we see each other

I’ve gone full circle from Music Man being my #1, then Fender, then back to Music Man. But my Stingray has evolved over time… 1996 version 2005 version 2025 version

Yes. The settings are within the XR18. The snapshots are all there and can be called up in Mixing Station. It's seamless.

MG Quantum 5 SPi, Vigier Passion S II, and a Status MM neck have hollow necks. These I have checked myself. Status has a wooden block in the heel for attaching it. Hollowness introduces some resonances, but as the dimensions are so small, they are somewhere up there. The neck length is still the main dimension. The attachment to the body affects the system and resonance. Can be roughly calculated or simply tested. Truss rod or not, well, if the mold and the structure are OK, the neck can be without it. As long as the neck is stiff enough, and can withstand the string pull, that rod is not necessary. Some want it, I don't.

Final shape looks really good, can't wait to see it come together.

Sorry to hear about your health issues, I hope you can still play to some extent in the future. I just asked because I came upon my own thread when googling the limited editions and what is the market for them - if any (ie prices) - and browsing though I saw your response and was reminded that you, too had them. I still have them both but they are my Spectors I use the least, the '77 saw some action when I subbed for a band where a 5er would have looked out of place and its sound fit like a glove but other than that my other Spectors with a low B are getting all the attention.

I would really go Japanese (without turning obviously!!!). Every one I have ever owned, or encountered, has been an excellent instrument. IMHO the price difference you pay for a US instrument just isn't worth it.

I'm sure it's part of the longer version, but I have a picture of the other guys wondering why you're taking your bass to the toilet with you. In its case presumably.

Hi all Didn’t trust Philip Conrad on his JMJ pushing so went on my own to trial a few ‘stangs including JMJ briefly. Among them were the Squier one which is strung with Chromes and the Vintera currently strung with Labella MUS ones. Both sound awesome for the money and Vintera feels sooo awesome. I think it is the chunky neck. I then stumbled upon a Bronco pumped up with Tru Bass strings and an SD quarter pounder at a stupid price. Added to that the chunky neck which I love and the 60s cartoony (Pink Panther) sound I am keeping it. So 500 quid plus postage for Vintera not 750 250 quid ish plus postage for the Squier. Both come dwith cases and I’m happy to hand deliver to London or pick up Canterbury. SOLD Unless someone has something crazy to offer I will hold out for sale-only Cheers Fatos
