My 15" cab... but it doesn't 'sound' like most people expect a 15" to sound!

She is certainly two footing it a lot of the time. I have been the victim of this when the local Hammond bod was playing faster lines with his feet than I was with my hands. Not that that is a major achievement really. Anyway, at 1:15 she is working that swell (vol? what was I thinking?) pedal.

The DM610 is a large bookshelf/standmount speaker from renowned hi-fi brand B&W, featuring a well-braced 30-litre sealed cabinet with 8-inch mid-bass driver. The larger driver and extra cabinet space create a much better low end range than from most similar speakers. This model allows for either bi-wiring or bi-amplification. These speakers present clean tight bass response, surprisingly clear mids for such a large driver and the pleasant highs that the well-designed B&W tweeter at that time was famous for. They can be driven quite loud, enough for the physical effect of the bass to be felt without audible distortion or a sense of sound compression. Both speakers are in Very Good condition, especially for their vintage. All-original, complete with full grilles (one of which has a small hole, shown in the final photo). Only £125. Collection from Bournemouth BH6 preferred. Here comes the science bit… Type: 2-way closed, shelf speaker Colour: Ash black veneer Dimensions: 490 x 236 x 303 mm (H x W x D) Weight: 7.8 kg Recommended amplifier power: 30-150 W Frequency response: 70 - 20,000 Hz (±2 dB) Crossover: 2500 Impedance: 4 Ohm

Interesting, as a lot of the received wisdom is not to have much, if any, reverb on bass for FoH?

I saw Pino's tour with Chris Dave, Sam Gendel and Blake Mills and they of course played the title track of their new record. And now, there's a duo live video and it's brilliant. Pino's tone on fretless is truly unmatched. What a sound.

She uses the swell pedal, as all organists do, but not rhythmically, i.e. in a fixed time. She's using both feet on the bass pedals, which will obvs be rhythmic. I think that's what you're seeing.

It's not the speaker size alone, it's the speaker plus enclosure which sounds the way it does; I had a Schroeder 1515L for years, and while I loved it (very honky soloed, on a stage very present; not tons of low bass, but then that's my taste), I'm gonna say it sounded like no other 2 x 15 I'd heard before or since, and that was down to the enclosure design. Technology has moved on a lot in the last few years, and a wide range of drivers can sound any way the designer wants without relying on/starting with cone size, so cone size itself is moving into the personally-observable and personally-preferential areas of things like, erm, tonewoods... Sorry about the t-word...

Why are venue house bass amps always such utter sh#te?
Lozz196 replied to Paddy Morris's topic in Amps and Cabs
That`s a good point, and one we in Knock Off did too. Singer/guitarist got us all the gigs so at the end of the night whilst he was networking me and the drummer used to carry/pack all the gear away. Whilst I would have been happy to not carry or pack anything away the fact that in my 6 years in Knock Off I got one gig of the 250 odd I played shows where my skills were/weren`t. -

Most of the time the second cab only takes up additional vertical space. It also has the advantage of raising the upper cab closer to your ears where it is doing some good for being heard rather than your knees.

BigRedX replied to Paddy Morris's topic in Amps and Cabs
Every band I've been in for the last 15+ years we send the singer off to do promotional and fan duties while the rest of the band clears the stage and packs up including any equipment the singer might have. I see both audience engagement and good stage manners as being equally important, so I'm happy to clear and pack a bit of extra equipment if I know that at the same time someone from the band is keeping the punters happy and maybe even getting us more gigs as a result. -

I can't begin to understand the science, maybe it's down to coincidence... When I had an Ashdown Routmaster set up I preferred their 15" cabs over their 2x10s. I had both at the same time. So for me I've just sort of stuck to 15s, though a Trace Elliot 2x10 combo sounds stunning. This morning I just picked up a 4x10 cab because I like the idea of having only one cab in my office rather than 2x 15s... Now someone is going to tell me that will make no difference whatsoever... But it will, one box takes up less space than two.

This is what i do for my IEM mix. We use one reverb for FOH, and a separate one for IEM mixes. I have a bit on the bass and a bit more on the vocals. While we can just have the reverb to FOH or IME, or both, i prefer to keep the two separate. I prefer a shorter reverb in the IEM mix.
