  1. Past hour
  2. So, did you buy it? It is still listed on Gumtree as "weeks old" even though it has been online for months. Andy Baxter also recently listed an IH Ltd (different serial number) for a similar price (£96 more). Mint condition and only 3.67kg! (not my bass).
  3. For some reason I love that it has EIGHT tremolo springs. Because of course it does.
  4. Hopefully you can take a loan/ sell stuff
  5. Hi all Tricky one to price this so feel free to message if you think I’m wildly wrong in either direction. It’s a wicked P bass that I’ve had for quite a while, fully Japanese early 90s (Fujigen) made. Weighs in at only 3.6kg. The neck is from a PB-62US, with the big reverse tuners, dark rosewood board and 60s logo. There’s a bit of a flame to the maple on certain lights. 44mm nut. The body is from a Squier Silver Series Precision Bass SPB33 (stamped in the neck pocket). These are great basses which I have another of. I believe electronics and pickup are original, the tone control is great, lots of options across the range rather than just on/off that you often get. Condition: Body, pretty worn and some chips to the finish, you can see some lines where the 3pc body joins together in certain lights. It’s looks great and has a nice genuine ‘relic’ vibe to it. The pickup poles and screws have a bit of rust on them but nothing that affects the sound Neck: Probably better condition than the body, lots of minor dents and dings but fair condition for a 30+ year old neck. The PB62US P Basses go for £1000+ and the silver series squiers look to be around £500 so I’m starting this at £650 but open to offers - a chance to get a great workhorse P bass with a high end Japanese neck for much cheaper than you otherwise would. Any questions, give me a shout. Shipping possible but collection preferred from Chessington or Central London. Thanks Dan

  8. Tobacco Road - the Nashville Teens
  9. It's on the iPlayer
  10. I'd try experimenting with the pre amp and see if you can shape the sound to your liking, before fitting new pickups.
  11. An outboard preamp pedal might work without the effort and expense of modding. I have a Sadowsky SBP-2, which perks up a very ordinary sounding Cort.
  12. Cigarettes and Alcohol - Oasis
  13. The octave on this works really well running into a Mastotron, better than any other I’ve tried.
  14. You might want to consider Dimarzio Relentless pickups...arched tops to better fit the neck radius and adjustable pole pieces. Noiseless and potent even without a preamp.
  15. They've been using the H-expander truss rod since their original Swedish days... http://hagstrom.org.uk/expander_stretcher.htm

  17. Just jumped on for a look after seeing your posts on my S-W Bass Bash topic. Top marks!! It's good to see people pushing the design and build envelope using latest technology. I'm speaking as the proud owner of a Vox Starstream btw 🙂
  18. Here's the video I mentioned. It's a very rare case of Ted Woodford throwing in the towel and declaring and instrument to be unsalvageable.
  19. Interesting, the bass just felt wrong to me, it balanced badly, it didn't resonate in the way I'd expect a bass to, it almost felt like it was built of something other than wood, wonder if the neck design/engineering was a factor?
  20. They're no doubt owned by a business who could
  21. Don't worry, it's organised by yer original Rochdale cowboy (mentioning no names) 😉
  22. Today
  23. Welcome from an exiled Aberdonian. And another plus 1 for what Acebassmusic said...
  24. Interesting - I doubt Hagstrom could afford to sue anyone - they seem to sell so very few instruments these days.
  25. Even with my none too special woodworking chops it only took a few hours to design and build one from some offcuts from the scrap pile
  26. Loved his work on miles' tutu and jarre's zoolook. My ownership of a fretless sire with his name on the headstock is purely coincidental though
  27. The Canadian luthier Ted Woodford (him off YouTube) recently did a video on an attempt to rescue one of their new-era guitars. I'll see if I can find it. It's very long and technical though. The gist was that these instruments are all built with an oddly shaped steel extrusion instead of a truss rod. It has these sorts of ribs that extend into the wood of the neck. It's glued into the neck as the laminates are being put together and is completely impossible to remove or service. That on its own wouldn't be a huge problem (it's not like replacing a truss rod is a common maintenance job) but there seemed to be something fishy about it. Ted is very polite (Canadian) and understandably wary about getting sued, so he didn't come out and say anything directly, but I got the distinct impression he believed the design was fundamentally flawed, or just a steel reinforcement bar with an adjuster on the end that didn't really do anything.
