Owen replied to Basvarken's topic in Bass Guitars
OK, thanks. I am not in the market right now. But I like to know these things. And I suspect I am not the only one. -

So, are these going to be available commercially? -
It may do, but it is more likely that you need to practice with a metronome and learn how to improve the way that you listen to your own playing! You are not alone - timing and consistency are what sorts the men from the boys and the thing that really makes you a top player. I've been playing for fifty years and they are the two things that I'm still working on!

Cheers, that’s good advice! The thought did cross my mind… I have a can of the stuff that’s readily available over here, called Griffon. Is that any good, or should I get something else? Do I apply it royally, or just a few squirts here and there?

I want to improve timing and consistency of my playing. I am fairly sure it involves adjustments to playing technique. ... Maybe see if a new bass helps, you never know 🙂

I ended up a fair amount out of pocket playing at an all-day charity event over a decade ago — whilst I was inside playing for free and having to pay for my own (soft) drinks, some b'stard broke into my car in the pub car park by smashing the window. I was very reluctant to do any more freebies after that.

Thanks! I didn't say they wouldn't suck. I would think many of them would suck, but then so do a large number of guitarists playing blues too, for the same reason. And they don't get upset because its obvious they suck because to them it appears completely unobvious that they suck, even if it is obvious to everyone else that it is painful. Not criticising anyone for going to one if that is what they enjoy, and any way of getting new people their first exposure that is hopefully better than the experience mentioned above is good, but for me it is not going to be enjoyable.

For sale, my Octave Mandola OR Octave Mandolin (they are the same thing). Shorter scale than an Irish Bouzouki, this one is tuned GDAE in unison pairs (or courses). Condition is excellent, not quite mint and includes a nice TGI gig bag that is a perfect fit. Mandola is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) for local collection or I could deliver locally too. Could attempt uk posting but it isn't as solid as a bass so I'd be a bit wary of that.

Virtually new Fender Bassman 100 cover from Roqsolid, i got it to use while my flightcase was being manufactured so was only used briefly. Its a little dusty but will wipe. They're about £65 new + shipping Cover is in Hope Valley, happy to post within UK, probably gonna cost a tenner just for how small it doesn't fold up.

I’m sure BD will sort you out. Labella seem very keen on sorting faulty strings. I had one of their nylon wrapped G strings that had an issue (not the one you describe). I’d had it a fair few months, but it was never right. I contacted them to buy a single and they replaced it for free, just had to pay carriage. They couldn’t have been more helpful. I would assume that this level of service is extended to their dealers.

My main thoughts are to cover expenses, not get paid specifically at the bands usual rate. It’s why I used a bar person as an example, for their rate of pay, if they get £50 a shift then that should cover a regular covers bands of 3/4/5 band members on getting there. Or if that’s not doable then a couple of drinks and a sandwich each. I’ve done a few charity gigs where for whatever reasons the charity was close to one of the band members, and at those gigs we were paid expenses. How much I don’t know as in each case we just put the sealed envelopes in the charity pot.

Yanks on TalkBass were getting their panties in a bunch over these a few months back 🤣 Think I've had 3 basses where the Hipshot version came as stock hardware. Never had any call to use it but if my situation changed I rather pay £60 for the Guyker than £140 to Hipshot 👍

I have had a long think about this. I think that I like this inexpensive pedalboard - it is portable, and sits in a neat enclosure. That means that i won't need to pull apart a home-organ to salvage the pedals and then make an enclosure. If I leave it as it is, it will only work with a 30 year old GEM keyboard. If I convert it to midi, it will work with any midi device (including the 30 year old GEM keyboard, which also has midi). So, once I learn electronics, midi it will be!

I sort of know what you mean. The winter months seem slow to me because we don't play much in the winter. My last gig was New Year's Eve. I have an acoustic gig next weekend. Daryl

An early 60s sunburst would be my dream bass. Unfortunately I can’t ever see me owning one. This 62 copy is probably the closest I’m ever going to get to one but I’m more than happy with it.

Line 6 HX Stomp in used condition bought from this very forum recently for £300 and looking for the same back. It taught me that I'm a very simple person and I made one patch on the HX stomp which was the fantastic Noble Preamp and an FX loop for all my other pedals So I've done myself a favor bought a Caveman BP1 preamp and now this is surplus. No original box but will be very well packaged for shipping, comes with power supply and usb cable, everything works as it should. £300 shipped. obviously more bubble wrap will be added to the parcel
