Paddy777 started following Interesting vid - Mike Gordon of Phish’s tour pedalboard
-
I didn’t know much about Phish or Mike Gordon prior to watching this, but he seems like he can play a bit and his pedalboard setup is massive and really interesting. Just thought I’d share it with some like minded effects nerds, as I can’t see it posted anywhere!

Having seen the band without him, I'm afraid even his presence isn't enough to get me along. Not a fan of James's schtick.

Try your best to enjoy it, music is supposed to be fun, especially with added pressure of doing it for your brother. Thinking back to my first gig, refusing to look up from the neck or out into the audience (when I finally did all I could see was feet) did I enjoy it? No, don't be like me 🙂 Good luck, if you do decide to do it again it does get easier!

Yes, it’s even better when you find one in your shed!!

Views are relative aren't they? An extreme view might just be one that is at it's root very opposite to our own view on the matter. We could also discover that our particular view is equally extreme (however middle of the road and reasonable we are convinced we ourselves are) because it is diametrically opposite from the view we consider extreme. All of those people on either side would consider the others extreme. Perhaps labelling views or people as extreme may be pointless and counterproductive. Views, in my view 😁, can and should be discussed. People on the other hand, whatever their views, can act like absolute twats and if they upset the band as a whole (or pick on a member of it) then they are better off moving on. I wonder how fully pro bands handle difficult band members and where the overlap is in typical workplaces.

Would I be in a band with them? I wouldn't piss on a "racist, homophobic, fascist etc...." if they were on fire. I used meet a group of acquaintances (scuba diving) for a curry once a month, it had the obligatory whatsapp group. A memebr, who up until this point hadn't attended or posted in the chat said something along the lines of "not a fan of p*ki food, can we go for a ch*nky instead". Mssaged the head of the group and said basically kick the guy immeadiayey or I walk (I was also a member of the club committee at the time), the response was he'd need to speak to group and see the best way forward. That was my last involvement, I walked straigt away. You are either an alley to monorities or you're someone I would never want to deal with. Simple

There's a difference between getting on with people, agreeing with people and working with people. I work with plenty of people I both disagree with and don't get on with, but because it is at work we make it work. Conversly there are loads of people I probably agree with on many things, but at the same time don't particularly get on with so wouldn't choose to socialise. There are also a few friends that I get on very well with, but there are certain topics we just don't talk about as we know we disagree. The mistake is thinking we have to agree with someone to get along with them.

I got around this years ago by hosting my photos on a hosting site (Imgur.com; it's free, and works quite well; other picture-hosting sites exist...). I post a Direct Link here, so the BC servers are not loaded with my pics, whatever their size or format. Any help..?

Beginner Bass Practice – Building Finger Strength and Timing
kiat replied to laurawoods's topic in Introductions
I prefer to use the sound of drums than a metronome. It keeps it interesting and adds feel. There are so many sources these days. In brackets (is what I use). drum machine (Alesis SR-16) drum software (Loopz on Android) drums stems, ie real drums from music tracks (Moises on Android and Linux) drums from pedals (Valeton GP-5 its cool for practice as the output to headphones includes the drums and my bass) Good luck with your journey. You're asking a load of good questions - don't let yourself get overwhelmed! Play often and with other supportive musicians as much as possible. -
GH are down the road from me. I’ve scored some bargains and it’s good to be able to take a look beforehand. I pre bid, limit my bidding and don’t check in until after the auction has finished. That way I don’t get caught up in ”auction frenzy”. It may be different if it’s something I’m desperate for or is rare, but even then I limit my bidding. You’re right, it’s important to factor in the fairly high commission.

I installed a set of Gotoh Resolite GB528 on my Sonic. The two screw holes lined up perfectly with the right side holes on my neck. Yes you can see the two remaining holes but not enough to bother me. Great lightweight tuners that also look better from the front imo, as they're a bit taller than the stock ones which barely clear the top of the headstock. I'll take a pic when I get home...

Def possible at your age @Agent 00Soul, I`m 59 and currently in two originals bands, one (The Spacewasters, garage-type rock) where we range from 30s/40s/50s, the other (Knock Off, Oi/street-punk) 50s/60s.

Pea Turgh started following Amp buzzing / shielding question
-
I put this little amp module kit together and stuffed it in a wooden box I had lying around. Made it look nice, and it works, but the buzzing is off-putting. I know not what I’ve done, I have no training or skills, just daft ideas and the occasional 10 minutes spare! What would cause buzzing in an amp like this? Bad soldering? Lack of shielding? (powered from a 9v pedal supply).

I am trying to upload a picture for the thumbnail for a bass I wish to sell, but it keeps telling me it’s too large a file exceeding 1024kB. How can I reduce it? I’ve tried new pictures and to change setting on iPhone camera but cannot find any way. Can anyone point me the way?

MarkBass Little Mark IV and MB58R 102 Energy cabs
SumOne replied to BassAdder60's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'm not really much help to the original question, but I recently played at a rehearsal room that had a LM IV and a Markbass Traveller 102P and my first impression is 'what's that?! That'll be far too weak' ( I play in a 8 piece Reggae/Ska band and for the Reggae bits in particular I go loud and low with my Ashdown RM500 and Tecamp 212 600w cab). ....but after a couple of songs and dialling in the EQ I thought 'wow, this is really loud/punchy and clear'. We got to the end of the rehearsal and without any prompting the guitarist commented on how good it sounded. I can imagine the 102 Energy is even better. So the upshot is, I'm seriously considering selling my cab and going for the Markbass 102 Traveler or Energy. The cabs are much smaller than my Tecamp 212 and a fair bit lighter (useful for lugging about and when fitting in my small hatchback with the other gear to gigs, or for taking to people's houses for rehearsals, and is perhaps small enough to live in teh house rather than the garage). It probably doesn't move as much air to flap the trousers quite so much as the Tecamp, but is clearer/more punchy (that could also be down to the amp though) and will be more than enough for pub gigs (bigger gigs/festival things tend to have a PA anyway). -
Thanks Simon - the case has good backstraps so I do ok with those until the doorways. The seat & stand bag is a pain so I was hoping for an all-in-one wheelable solution

I think the downside is due to the current saturation in the media, and the hysteria being raised, he`s only likely to be pushed further in his current direction. The thing is, with a mate like yourself who will enter into dialogue with him, rather than someone who just shouts him down/over him, he can see a reasoned viewpoint so I`d say stick around.
