I took part in my first gig in 18 months yesterday. It was a battle of the bands in a secondary school and our band was one of the 'parent's bands'. Anyway, we have our first gig under the belt. It was outdoors so I got to use my full rig and this ended up being the kids' bass rig too. Consequently, I ended up with bass tech duties too. This is my first gig playing with a drummer with an electronic kit. There were no monitors and as well as not hearing the vocals, I could barely hear the drums. We got through our short set ok though. My rig:

As above if you want totally matt, I did my shell pink jazz in satin which is slightly more shiny but not as much as gloss, looks great rob

It looks like a Fender width neck but the bridge is a narrow-spaced Hofner type. It'd be resolved by putting a 19mm spaced bridge on there.

Played a small garden BBQ and later a cafe gig (40ish) yesterday with my newly acquired Fender Kingman 2 SS bass. Bass >Zoom B1FOUR (HPF@30hz)>Bam 200 combo 6ins speaker. BBQ gig was fine but I suffered with significant acoustic feedback in the cafe. Adjusted the Notch filter and the phase switch on the Fender badged Fishman pre but couldn't tame the feedback. Do sound hole plugs really work? Anyone with any solutions?

The picking style that Rhiannon is using in the clip is not clawhammer. It is an old-time 3-finger picking style, which pre-dates the modern Scruggs-style bluegrass roll which is normal nowadays. This banjo is also unusual in that it is tuned a 5th lower than normal 5-string G tuning, and I think the strings are probably nylon.

rwillett started following Matt type finish for Jazz partsa

Hi I'm just finishing off my Jazz parts, Fender Jazz neck, Hipshot tuners, Bareknuckle pickups, John East Preamp and a lovely body from a luthier. Some of these bits came from @sifi2112, a true gent. Si painted the body in matt black and I really like the non gloss finish. It's really great contrasted with a white pickguard and chrome preamp. However I want to protect that matt finish. Looked up satin finishes on guitars and after wasting my time with ****'s on Reddit, I thought I'll come back and ask some sensible people here. Any suggestions what I can finish the body with but keep a subtle matt finish. Thanks Rob

I have been using the Telepath for a few months. No dropouts, syncs immediately and charge lasts well beyond a three hour gig without going into the red. I can't distinguish any noticeable differences to my tone or any latency.

Totally agree with all this. Jazz musicians (and any improviser really) exists at the intersection of inspirational genius and absolute failure. I love playing improvised music, but the audience at a jazz gig buys into it and understand the challenges. A blues band audience probably wants the songs played the way they were on the record. Without wanting to be elitist, jazz musicians are typically operating at a higher level of musical understanding, too. Almost every problem can be solved by chatting. I auditioned for a gigging band recently and the band leader said they don’t rehearse often (err, ever) but expect me to learn the songs, play properly and not to be flakey. I can introduce some personality into parts but ultimately stick to the songs as recorded. Do that and I’ll get paid and rebooked.

I always feel an imminent gig usually concentrates players minds and gets them learning the set. That is, assuming they have a professional mindset in the first place and don't want to look like a fool and let everybody else down on the night.
