  1. Past hour
  2. Next gig for me is with my old band Knock Off, Sat 26 July at The Hope & Anchor, Islington, supporting GBH. Am expecting a rather hot sweaty evening, which as they say is good if you`re with a woman, bad if you`re in the jungle.
  3. I think that's a bit beyond the wit of our lot, and while I'm not against it in principle I really, really, really, hate having things in my ears. I can't do in-ear headphones or earplugs, for example.
  4. Finding out that's the case when you're about to go into a solo is such fun!
  5. We've actually got a gig near my house!
  6. Depending on dates, I might try and make the trip over for this. Overdue for a visit anyway, and I can use it as a recce! #1 - Paul @NancyJohnson #2 - Paul #2 @prowla #3 - Martin @Merton #4 - Matt @Wombat #5 - Andy @Wolverinebass #6 - Stevie @stevie #7 - Lozz @Lozz196 #8 - Matt @neepheid #9 - @bassace97 #10 - Robert @bass_dinger #11 - Christopher @chyc #12 - jaco @Geek99 ** #13 - Alan @WalMan #14 - Trevor @TrevorR #15 - John @jonno1981 #16 - Gary @cetera #17 - @MacDaddy #18 - Steve @Stingray5 #19 - Russ @Russ
  7. Does anyone have a good hack for the standard Shadow not-quite 2.5mm jack, as used on the RB Pro preamp and pickup rig? They seem to be slightly shorter and smaller diameter than the standard 2.5mm, which means you can't plug the transducer into anything else, without taking the original plug off and re-soldering with something else. The input sockets on the preamp unit will accept standard 2.5mm plugs, like those supplied on the Zak Victor pickups, but the larger jacks are probably putting the sockets in the preamp under mechanical strain, because they are designed for the non-standard narrower / shorter Shadow plug. Is there another, sub-2.5mmm 2-pole plug standard that I don't know about?
  8. Yamaha Motion MB – III medium scale bass Had this little bass on offer a few months ago but ended up keeping it as I needed a bass for a gig that involved flying (it fits in a guitar gigbag). Really great bass for the money with a big sound and easy on the shoulders. · Body: Basswood · Neck: Maple · Fingerboard: Rosewood · Pick up: Humbucker (Passive) · Neck joint: Bolt-On · Nut width: 39mm · Number of frets: 24F · Weight: ≈ 3.5kg · Control part: 2 Volume / 1 Tone · Scale: 32" / 813mm (Medium Scale) Its from 1988 so it does have some marks here and there but nothing too bad. Everything works great and the frets are really well dressed. Can take a very low action. Its strung up with medium scale Thomastik Jazz Flatwounds that are a great match, it kicks butt! Can ship anywhere in Europe. Price is 400 Euros. If you have any question, just PM me. Thanks!

  9. Seems to work. Same as wedding gigs, over pub gigs, and a lot of things in life. Charge a lot more and do less of them. There was a recent post about having a setup done here regarding prices going up. Charge more, be more selective.
  10. The Thomann Chromatic 64 arrived yesterday. I'm used to harmonicas as little things that fit easily in the hand, but this thing is huge and requires two hands at all times. I've yet to take it to a quiet place at work and give it a real blowing. I've read that this model needs to be "blown in" a bit, especially the low range. Selecting a single note to play is tough: I don't have an embouchure and it's likely going to require my tongue.
  11. MAGNIFICENT pedal. Absolute perfection with a Precision. I'd buy it but I already have two 😆
  12. There’s something I’ve got my eye on so, £50 off but if that item sells the price will go back up. Great bass in good condition, comes with hard case. Short scale. Not a heavy bass. Plays well. Not really any damage to speak of. There’s a little bit at the top of the headstock (photographed) but looks much worse than it actually is. I’ve removed the strap lock pins and replaced them with the originals that were odd when I got it. The case is old but fully function and all the clasps work. Can post at buyers expense or can be collected from BB22SH Any questions please ask.

  15. The body is reminding me of a Fodera Emperor, must be that lower bout. Stick a butterfly decal on it to wind people up!
  16. It was always going to be the Queen and Quo sets for me at Live Aid. I just watched Madonna performing Like a Prayer at Live Aid and whoever the bassist was, it felt very thin and empty without Guy Pratt and his Octaver. Edit: Duh! I was watching "Live 8" some years later. 🤣
  17. I'm selling my Clifton electric upright bass. Bought 2002, very good condition. Serial number 27. Case, stand and (cheap) bow included in the price. The side rests detach and it fits into a case about the size of a golf bag. Collect from East Dulwich only. Welcome to try it out but I don't have an amp.
  18. Pics of the SKB case Handle/wheels Laptop/tablet sits in the top section, mixer sits in the rack space below. A bit old and shabby but a nice way of moving this unit around 👍 Previous owner installed a DIY cable router
  19. Not my choice, it was already mounted on the body when I bought it. Easily sorted though...
  20. Bloody locking jack sockets! Why do people use these monstrosities? 🤬

  23. Today
  24. Damn it! I had been getting quite comfortable just using my Boss GX-10 that has decent enough Tuner, EQ, Compressor, Drive, and modulation and delay effects - enough that I wasn't really after any indididual pedals. It is convenient and means I can get all my Amp + Cables + Bass stand + Effects etc. in one single relatively small bag for gigs. .....But I've just received an Octamizer in a part exchange - and nothing on a multi-fx quite gets that same analogue octave sound, and the GX-10 (or other multi-fx) don't quite get the analogue analogue filter feel of something like an MXR Bass Envelope Filter so I'd been eyeing up them again. And now this MXR Bass synth (and @knicknack's excellent video) is enough to tip me over the edge! The GX-10 is more of a stand-alone thing as it is a bit big to incorporate into a pedal board so it puts me on the path of selling it and getting indididual pedals yet again!
  25. Here it is. I posted a build diary on here last year, I think.
