  1. Past hour
  2. Just aesthetics, they've done a lot of work and are looking very tatty. Sounds is pretty good but I can't stretch to the K12.2 money!

  6. So, I might be wrong - but I feel that I get the reason for the angled pickups, they basically follow the same angles as where the frets would be if they went all the way from nut to bridge. e.g. if the pickups were all the way back by the bridge they'd end up being the similar angle to the bridge, if they were up by the 12th fret they would nearly be horizontal, if they were at the 1st fret they would be angled leaning the same way as the nut with the B side further forward. This is to make the position of the pickup the same proportion along each string e.g. 1/8th of the way along the B and 1/8 along the 35" G (partly due differet string lengths and the strings start/finish at differet places, if they all started at the same place like a standard bridge then the pickups could be nearly horizontal - but the fanning would get too extreme to be comfortable at the nut end). What it seems to me though is that following that theory means you also therefore need to pluck at that angle of the pickup/frets in order to be picking in relatively that same position on each string - if you pluck strings in a horizontal motion e.g. the green line on my picture then you are not plucking the strings at relatively the same proportion of their length, the G is being plucked perhaps 1" along the 35" (nearly 3% of the way along from the bridge) and the B is plucked 3" along of its 37" (8% along from the bridge). The split coil and the P bass type thing of having the G side pickup further back at least means if you pluck horizontally through the strings you are plucking relatively the same position in front of those pickups (the yellow line) - but still unless you follow the (virtual) fret angle you are not plucking at the same proportion along the string length, surely that leads to a change in tone? I'm probably over-thinking and being picky! But it always struck me that multiscale works well in most ways, but you need to make that (for me, unnatural) adjustment to picking along the angle of the pickups/a virtual fret if you want an even tone by picking each string at the same proportion along.

  8. A nice honest piece of wood there. I like it.
  9. Kev

    Neural Quad Cortex

Sounds like at least another month before 3.2.
  10. Always fancied one but have never actually played one. Anyone ever owned one and what were your thoughts on how they play and sound? I just missed out on one on Ebay last week that went for £475, is that about the right price these days, as I've seen them priced higher but they never seem to sell.
  11. We will be making a new order with Lakland shortly, drop us/me an email and I can tell you some availability
  12. Inevitably, there's more going on than the two 1970s Rickenfakers featured here. That would be too simple. Watch this space ...
  13. That’s an absolute beast of a rig! I can imagine exactly how good that sounds. Ace.

  15. Oh that's interesting! What do you feel they are lacking? Consensus seems to be they are comparably good to RCF speakers and, I guess from what's been said, the FBTs also.
  16. Bass Gallery have a 55-02 in stock, none of the UK dealers seem to have any 5 strings in stock
  17. From the same family, I can confirm that the 802 also sounds tremendous with the Barefaced cabinets. So, I knew the minute I started reading your post it was going to have a happy outcome. Congrats! The only odd thing I found recently was that the rubber feet on my 802 actually got stuck to the BT3's finish lol.. something reacted and they became "temporarily inseparable" - is that an oxymoron? ha ha! (My other amps have been fine).
  18. by mistake... yeah right
  19. Rosegarden Funeral of Sores - Bauhaus
  20. Weeds aren't really squishy hippy prog! They were a precursor band for future goth, dance, Madchester and punk bands, though they've always been more of a dance-cum-rock (that's a new genre...)
  21. It wasn't outrageously heavy, but it most certainly wasn't 'very lightweight' as someone mentioned earlier in the thread.
  22. I loved having those three pickups on my (sadly gone) AB1 to play across as @SumOne says. I'd have gone one step further and had all three pickups made as a giant ramp, with a radiused top to suit the neck. Sheldon and I chatted about radiused pickup shells way back, but life got in the way of making that a reality.
  23. I haven't tried enough amps to be certain there is a difference, but my main gigging amps are old school solid state affairs. If I carried on I would have to use the "H" word, so I won't. I'd like to try one of those some day. Rob
