Is it not a good idea only from the perspective of getting a good seal on the drivers or is there another reason?
-
I think he's great. Makes good points, plays well (and stuff which is actually listenable not noodling), and is funny. I think the people who don't like him are just players of the Dipstick lick 🙂.

Every time I see him I can't help but think about an attitude that also leads to this picture:

A basic DI box into the PA will get you going. The ADI 21 is a good way to try some tone shaping, but worth buying just as a DI box even if you don't turn it on. If you have reasonable stage monitors, that's all you need. Depending on how loud you are, and if you don't have any on-stage monitoring from the PA, a small acoustic guitar combo might be worth considering. I have a Roland AC60 which is now discontinued but can be found second-hand. There's also a 30W version, the AC30. It has an anti-feedback filter and other effects such as reverb and chorus, and best of all it can be stuck on a speaker pole so it is at ear height and he'll be able to hear himself.

You've been most helpful Martin! Off to electronics store to look for terminal blocks! Thanks again! -
Best wishes. Keep the goal of getting back on stage in your mind to help you through.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Franticsmurf replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
After a few frustrating rehearsals (arrangements unarranged, mistakes and confusions ignored, keys changing hourly etc) last night's rehearsal for Friday's big gig went really well. It all came together and while it wasn't perfect, we were all aware of the little things that need tidying. Our sound engineer was dancing to some of the songs (always a good indicator), there was laughter from the band and cups of tea all round. And we managed to finish early enough to avoid the worst of the amber rain warning. We play the local Crown Court Xmas party on Friday - its a fun gig but knowing there are judges and barristers there (including our singist), and that it's for people he works with and has to maintain a certain reputation with, there is an extra element of pressure. -

I'm just starting to use a DMX controller to control our band's stage lighting. There's nothing wrong with using the built in programs but they tend to be disco orientated and literally a bit too flashy for band use. Good for the audience if they are up on the dance floor but nobody wants the lights to flash off in the middle of a tricky bass run If anyone has any practical experience or tips to offer I'd be glad to hear them and I'll save the first post to try and pull together the best tips and build up a wiki/how to help people as new ideas are added.

Do you limit yourself to a single brand of pedal?
neepheid replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Effects
Nah, I don't see the point in limiting oneself to a single brand, no one brand does everything the best or the way I'd want. I use pedalboard size and the fact that I only have one pedalboard to limit pedal purchases. The last time was a straight swap, TC Electronic Brainwaves out (and sold), Boss XS-1 Poly Shifter in. There's no room to keep both, nor is there any point - the Boss does the job I want to do better than the TC, the TC has tonnes of features I never use. Plus the Boss wasn't exactly cheap, so needed to sell the TC to backfill some of the expense. How many pedals is too many? Again, my arbitrary pedalboard size (because I made it myself) dictates this. -

Yeah, I've had good experiences with U'King branded led's (like the PAR's you linked to)though the ratings are a bit wild with a lot of Chinese stuff. The bulbs are all coming from China though so even the name brands are using the same bulbs. I can't see any colour saturation difference between my ADJ brand name strips and the U'king ones. What you do get with the brands is a more useful set of built in programs and consistency between production runs. I'm going to start a separate thread about DMX, it might be good if you posted the first response. I'm still taking baby steps so I can't offer too much in the way of experience.

I don’t much like U2 but I admire them for staying together and lasting the course. I saw them in 1980 and 2006 and it was the same lineup. How many bands can say that? In my diary for 1980 i described them as ‘Like Siouxsie and the Banshees, but with a bloke’…😂 -
It's good, isn't it? Puts me in mind of Lush.

My guess, it started as a joke and is still used in fun, but has morphed into a dig, probably shorthand for "You're taking this too seriously!"

To be fair, Adam has always been like this. I've grown up with U2 since around 83 and he has always been this very cool, intelligent, calm, thoughtful character. Not too technical but he knows his stuff and very level headed. The Edge is the technical geek, Larry is always in the shadows and Bono is Bono and exactly when you get. - Today

I like him. He's funny, different, irreverent and behind the humour, a good player. Check out the Charles Berthoud v Danny Sapko video. He appears to be a smart guy and can play. Making a living in the bass world is a tough ask these days, so more power to him.

Preamplifier Fodera model 2000 bass preamp This is the rare pedal version of the Fodera/Pope Preamp which was installed inside the original famous fodera custom basses, with the additional feature of a volume level control and the possibility to switch the boost/cut control on/off of the midrange control. I have been using with my Fodera passive P Bass and I used it to balance the sound with my active Fodera Emporer and it works really great for this purpose! In this way you can use an hi-end bass with a very high signal, and immediately embrace a passive instrument without having to go crazy to change the equalization of your amplifier. The volume control has enough headroom to drive a power amp! It runs on 2x9v batteries and is not power hungry as long as the input jack is not engaged when not in use 1 Excellent preamp, I sell only because I am using a Kemper Player live and am managing the output volume in the amp profile so it is now surplus, PRICE INCLUDED SHIPPING in UK or can be collected

Jean-Luc Pickguard started following Do you limit yourself to a single brand of pedal?

After trying various compressors, overdrives etc, I decided to limit myself to using Boss compact pedals only in an attempt to stop myself buying too many similar pedals. I made up a bass board: And a guitar board: And also have some pedals that I'd like add to my boards if I had more room. My 'want' list currently includes an OC-5, & RT-2 Rotary. I'm thinking about combining both boards into one big pedal - something like the harley benton spaceship power 80 should give me plenty of room. How many pedals is too many? Anyone else limit themselves to a single brand? I imagine an MXR-only board would be pretty good.

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
knirirr replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Last night's jazz session at The Chequers in Chipping Norton was a bit cramped as they were getting large dinner bookings already. We managed to squeeze in, though. Once again the EUB was very useful; easier to find somewhere to stand for playing and I can lean it up against a wall when one of the bass guitarists who turn up wants to sit in. When they do I get a chance to inflict my jazz guitar skills (I use the term 'skill' loosely) on the audience. Though we get bassists and keyboardists turning up there are no other drummers so our regular chap has to work all night. -
Messy or not, what's on your (music) work desk right now?
Dood replied to kiat's topic in General Discussion
I could tell you what is on my desk right now, but then I might get in to a bit of trouble. I can tell you that a couple of months ago I was involved with prototype testing of a super nice 'signature model' device for a really rather well known bassist. I provided consultancy and product evaluation with cups of tea, to tweak the features to make them just right. It's important that products have a feature set that meets the needs of a wide range of players. This week I have shot an in-depth brand product feature video to go with its release... which is imminent... #BestJobInTheWorld
