Interesting - next time I happen to be in the merchants I'll take a pic of the redwood/red deal, which AFAIK is Scots pine same as it always was. Though I suppose Russian supplies have disappeared now so that might have impacted things. The pale white stuff or anything sold for studwork I'd agree is usually awful splintery rubbish, though I did get a batch of treated 3x2 from Selco that was incredibly heavy and dense-grained. Tbh it was a pain for studding out as you couldn't drive screws in without them snapping off, and even piloting them needed a really good sharp bit! Think they might have been pitch pine like many old floorboards, certainly a nice fragrance when cutting. Total waste as studwork.

Exactly my thoughts. The Sadowsky and Tech 21 pre amps have been used for decades. They aren't cheap. They are extremely well made and well renowned. This IMA chap is a great player, he seems extremely enthusiastic. But, he just seems like yet another online personality pushing product. Do we have any links to his bands or recordings?

I just don't think Walrus have a big enough name and/or specialism in bass gear to go in at this price. I wouldn't listen to anyone saying that profits in the pedal industry aren't high. Why do you think there are now SO MANY manufacturers, with many being high end. Big money, small footprint, easy to ship and thus less concerns over returns like a bass/guitar as you can really pack a pedal easily so it is nigh on impossible to damage. Walrus churn out pedals and updated pedals all the time, for big money.

I watched one of the videos and due to the lack of a side by side comparison (with and without the Walrus), it's hard to say if it's really enhancing the sound that much (away from the extreme settings) than my current, much more affordable pre amps do already (Tech21 & Sadowsky). I know it's very easy and typical for us to diss a new product, but I really wanted to be blown away

It was! I’ve had two, one was 10lbs+ and that one, the sunburst one, was 8lbs 9oz. And top to bottom perfect with it. I sold it to a mate who has fallen in love with it, and last we spoke, planned to have it stripped and refinished pink!

I couldn’t live with that, would have to return it.

They have reversed the placement of the handle and both sets of feet, so they are fixed on the opposite sides to where they used to place them. I don't understand why they would do this, as nobody is now able to mix older One10's with newer One10's, as I have tried here. I am within my rights to ask for a refund, as it's just been delivered today, and I ordered it online through their website, so I have 14 days to ask for a refund and another 14 days to return it. I would also accept a replacement cab, but it's taken more than 10 weeks to get this one, I'm not sure i want to wait that long again!

I was lucky enough to watch the interview at the time, but I'll be revisiting it thanks to this video. Mike's content is always interesting. I've starting tuning in to his Youtube live stream, which has now moved to the more convenient (IMO) Sunday evening. He seems to have concentrated on basses in recent times, but I think he might be reviewing some bass cabs any time now.

That's the problem with unclear language. Yes, they are in "use", but remain untouched. They're so-called "sympathetic" strings. I'm sure Wikipedia has an article about these.

I built a CNC machine as a lock down project during Covid. It had a cutting area of 800mmx600mm, it was fun to build and the aim was to design a machine to cut foam for tool drawers, it didn't really do the job I thought it would do, and whilst it was a great learning experience, I have the machine away to the local school to make better use of it. As I was doing anything with bass guitars then, building a bass from wood with a CNC machine wasn't even a thought. If I was going to do anything with a CNC machine, I would go for something decent such as the X-Carve that @Richard R has commented on. I did just check it at https://www.inventables.com/products/x-carve-1 and it appears that the nice entry level kits have been discontinued and they are moving to the X-Carve Pro which are bigger and more money. However there are other kits or systems out there to replace the entry level stuff. I wouldn;t suggest making your own though as I did Rob
