  4. Traveler Guitar TB-4P Bass SBT – Thomann UK https://www.thomann.co.uk/traveler_guitar_tb_4p_bass_sbt.htm I travel a lot for work, and I've had one of these for years. They're built extremely tough and it's small enough that you can put it in overhead luggage on any commercial flight and no one blinks an eye. I love mine.
  5. Absolutely wonderful, beautiful tone and playing.
  6. On lead guitar last night with a pub covers band. The venue was a ginormous chain pub with a huge (but not separate) ‘function room’ area at the back. Sadly they had at some point walled off the stage to create a store room and somewhere to mount the biggest TV screen I have ever seen. I really wasn’t feeling it at first as I’d played with the band the previous night and could have done with a night in. Our sound check quickly cleared a table in front of one of the PA speakers, which didn’t bode well! But as soon as we started playing our first set there were people on the dance floor, and it just got busier as the night went on. By the end there were several people dancing on the tables, which fortunately seemed to have been constructed from scaffolding materials! The landlady was so happy with the band that she paid us an extra 20%.

  8. Walrus Audio Canvas Mono DI/LI. Selling due to downsizing my board. Great little pedal with with switchable pad, ground lift, and summing options. Adds a nice bit of colour too! There's currently velcro on the back, but easy to remove cleanly. Located in Devon. Can meet in person if nearby, or buyer decides on/pays for postage. Here's my feedback thread:

  9. Line 6 HX Stomp XL, selling due to downsizing my board. It's in pretty good nick, it's spent the majority of its time on a pedalboard in a protective case. It currently has some custom and purchased presets on it, but I can reset it back to factory if preferred. It comes with velcro on the back, the rubber feet are in the box. Located in Devon. Can meet in person if nearby, or buyer decides on/pays for postage. Here's my feedback thread:

  10. For sale, my mint condition X32 Producer. Just under 2 years old and bought by me from Andertons, it's been flight cased from new. I used it at home to learn digital desks and then did a few rehearsals plus about 10 gigs before I upgraded to a bigger desk. I've kept it as a backup, but am now looking to upgrade my main desk again, and therefore this is surplus to requirements. All faders, encoders and buttons, ins and outs working perfectly. Will be restored to factory settings before it goes, and am more than happy to spend some time with the buyer to show them how it all works if needed. It's a great first desk if upgrading from analogue and a nice compact size for gigging, but also ideal for a home studio setup, or for an IEM rig. It can be rack mounted and the rack ears will be included. All the specs are available on the Behringer website, but this has 16 local ins, 8 outs plus 8 aux ins/outs. Can be expanded to 32in/16 outs with a behringer stage box (S16 or SD16) and you can record multitracks to a DAW via the 32 channel interface. Priced to sell at £750, which is a good saving on new with the flight case which was £200 on its own. Collection from Chelmsford, or will drive a reasonable distance for a meet up. Payment via cash or BACS. Please DM me if you have any questions.

  11. A versatile fella by the sound of it. Was he on the register? Not the keyboard register... the other one.
  12. ...was just thinking about why it's more a problem with a traditional piano sound, and listening again to the opening recording I think the attack on the piano sound is much shorter than for the bass (and guitars for that matter) meaning that although they are in time with each other, you hear the piano first on the chords and hence lose the distinctiveness of the bass. It might be that a compressor with a softer/slower attack on the piano could help a bit as well.
  13. Ah, it's an age old problem. The problem with keys is that they're so easy to make loud and 'big' without much effort that they can always drown out the rest of the band, never mind just the bass, and because they can be employed with such versatility, keys players who love the sound of their own playing can feel encouraged to play constantly, over everything. Years ago when I worked at a hotel, we'd regularly have bands coming in to play functions and weddings. One band always used the set up worth their guy on a Nord Lead II (a keyboard I never really liked the sound of). He was invariably devastatingly loud and piercing to the detriment of the rest of the band. I always did wonder if they knew how much of the FOH sound was occupied by that noise. In this instance, I think some diplomatic conversation would be in order. A keys player can play a bass part but they can never make it sound like a bass guitar even if they have a good patch, in the same way as a drum machine doesn't bring the music to life like an actual drummer would. If the band are happy enough with stiff-sounding keyboard basslines, your daughter might be stuffed but if they band have any sense they'll recognise and address the issue.
  14. I have played Elton John's songs and they are arranged so professionally, there's space for all instruments. But if a band just plays without thinking, the collisions are very likely. A pro arranger knows the problems in the low end, and is able to avoid them. Music physics is not magic, but some people can arrange music sound like magic.
  15. Check out Sound on Sound personal ads for an idea of pricing synths. EBay is just too crazy and often unrealistic. Also vintage synth explorer can be useful. GLWTS!
  16. Ask the sound guys if are having trouble differentiating between bass, bass drum and keys. Their answer might solve everything. My suggestion, take some bass off the bass and add low mids. Take some bass off the keyboards and, while I didn’t hear keys overplaying on the recording, make sure the keys aren't playing bass guitar lines. Yesterday I played at a festival and the FOH was boomy and indistinct. The bass drum drowned out the bass! The sound guys didn't seem to have a clue. If that's what your sound guy is like, get another one.

  19. Yes a problem I've also had over the years especially playing in church/gospel bands where the lineup changes weekly. Keyboardists who play a lot on their own get used to playing all the basslines with their left hand so stopping them doing this in a band situation is a challenge. I generally position myself so I can see their left hand, and notice that the "better" keyboardists still do use their left hand but generally only playing root notes on the chord changes (often as octaves with pinky & thumb). Thus said the issue is most acute when they use a traditional piano sound (as in the OP recording). If they use a Fender Rhodes or Hammond or strings patch it's not so bad.
  20. ...and as Artec is a plain tone stack, vol and balance are 250k or 500k. You can use them in lo-Z (active) and hi-Z (passive) modes. Therefore bypassing Artec would be very simple.
  21. I agree. Big risk of travelling with a bass is theft. I travel with a Bronco bass. Once set up it’s a capable little thing and the whole outfit cost me less than £200, including headphone amp and good headphones.
  22. I might do at least a bypass to electronics in case of a battery failure, and to get a few more sounds. Ser/par (pickups) could be another extra. If you think a tone is a must, one rotary switch position could be passive with a trimmer and a cap. With trimmer you can adjust the amount of tone, and then you'd have a preset tone ready.

  24. Shipping should be possible as I'm getting a new cab in a couple of weeks so I can recycle the packaging from that.
  25. I've been moonlighting as a keyboards player for the last few years and this ^ is bang on the money. Most keys people simply can't help themselves ... they have to be using both hands or it feels like "cheating". I use a 2-tier rig because I hate splits but the principle is the same. My lower keyboard is for my right hand and that plays the main thing ... piano, organ, synth, whatever. My upper keyboard is for my left hand BUT set at +2 octaves so that I'm in the same register as my right hand, and that's for the twiddly bits and flourishes, or for strings/brass. Ego satisfied, plus I'm bringing far more to each song.
  26. No worries that's what I thought, worth a try though. If someone else wants to take the C4 off your hands let me know and take the controller. Cheers
  27. I have one of these and it’s very good. I don’t fiddle with the controls much, tending to leave it in passive mode in the usual 60:40 jazz pup mix but I do like the string spacing
