Does Your Covers Band Change Songs? What Changes and Why?
bassbiscuits replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
Depends on the reasons I suppose. The tribute band and the function band I play with stick closely to the originals for obvious reasons; a few are in different keys, but arrangements and other important details stay the same. In the other hand, my solo work and my blues/soul trio are full of “interpretations” of songs which have been rearranged and rejigged into something that works best for us in those formats. That’s not the same as being too lazy to learn parts, or being incapable of playing them properly. That’s just freedom to experiment (with the caveat of them actually sounding good!). But yeah oversimplifying or messing with songs for no good reason seems a bit daft. -
I've just listed my BB734a matte black in the for sale section if anyone is looking for one.

Ha ha, a swing and a miss, it happens.

I guess an audience has its views too, bit like some ppl in a band randomly feel need to bleat ‘f@ck Trump’ cus it’s their opinion 🤦 go figure🤣

Out of those I can do the following: Sunday April 19th 2026 (last choice because got a gig on the 17th, hence why I can't do the 18th) Saturday April 25th 2026 Sunday April 26th 2026 Saturday May 9th 2026 Sunday May 10th 2026 Had some close calls around these dates with band and personal stuff recently so it would be good to get it tied down soon.

la bam started following Yamaha Bb734a with EMG pickups £795

Absolutely lovely yamaha BB734a bass. Yearned after one of these for years and its every bit as good as I hoped. Firstly, it looks cool as can be. Its tuners are great, never really have to use them, keeps in tune so well. The neck is lovely and slim and so easy to play. One of those basses where everything is just in the right place. The Bridge is great. The pickups have been upgraded to EMGs PJ. These sound killer! They just roar away! There isn't really a sound you can't get out of this. It has the 3 band active preamp plus pick up blend, allowing the perfect amount of bite and eq. It also has the passive option with a tone control. So best of both worlds. Therenis an led in the back too which let's you know if your battery is low. Excellent condition, hardly used. Very very highly regarded basses. With the EMGs this is just amazing. Pick up Leyland Lancashire Could look at delivery if needed.

It's based on a Gibson Futura, not an Explorer:

It subtly changes the sound, and gives people yet another thing to endlessly debate the virtues of on an electric bass

I bought a couple of bridges from David. Very quick delivery, good packaging, good comms. I'd be pleased to deal with him again. Thanks David!

The main thing for me is thinner strings further from bridge/thicker nearer the bridge must make for a better balance. I often find that the D (and G should I ever use it) lack depth in comparison to the E & A.

Been turning down charity gigs for years. A con to get musicians to perform for free.

Thick as a brick - Jethro Tull

It's cut and boost, but asymmetrical.

9050s. Green silks and the mint green ball end is the give away.
-
I can never fathom why so many folks set both bass and treble on full on that two band Stingray preamp. It's too much boom and clank for my taste
-
I suppose one question is what constitutes a charity? I've never been asked to do a gig for a charity as such, but looking back I've been asked to do a couple of gigs where the money went to a supposedly worthy cause. A benefit concert for the Miners Strike of 1984/5 springs to mind, and I played an AIDS benefit gig in the early 1990's. In both cases it didn't cost us to play. Regarding the first instance though, I still remember the arguments between members of the band over it.
-
Preferably a celluloid one for increased flammability 🙂 That said, it'd be a funny "can I borrow your bass?" bass.

Rosie C started following Trace Elliot 1153T 1x15" cabinet
-
I bought this cabinet along with another cab and an AH300 in November, not expecting to be moving house quite so soon - but it seems we might be moving as soon as March. I'd like to keep it, but if I can sell it that would be one less thing to have to ship overseas. It all works as you'd expect and in good condition cosmetically. It comes with a vinyl cover and is about 37kg. I added the badge recently to match my other cabinet, but it's only fixed with a sticky pad, so if you don't like bling I can remove it and knock a bit off the price.
