I’ve done 2 outdoor gigs so far, one being very sunny and didn’t have an issue.

Something Old & Something New - Your Recordings.
Baloney Balderdash replied to xilddx's topic in Share Your Music
I finally pulled myself together to upload "Hole Song" by an old musical project Janosch, that I was one half of together with Markus (Jesper Marcussen), on YouTube. Originally released on the compilation "Danelectro" Lead vocals and rhythm guitar: Jesper Marcussen Lead guitars (except guitar solo*), bass and backing vocals: Jacob Læby (me) Backing vocals: Michelle Kappel Drum machine, synth, *guitar solo, production and mixing: Per Chnöeldh And genre wise we are around some relatively lo-fi indie rock/pop (cover/video art is from the 4 track EP "Inhere Outhere" by Janosch, that was released previously to this track, I shot the cover photo) - And the latest actual worthwhile serious track that I made, although not that new, is a remix of the track "Elastic2" by Fencepost, per request. But this is with my solo drone/ambient project, Fjernsind, and something entirely different, experiemental dark ambient/drone. I even made an actual animated video of sorts for it: -
From this pic I found online, the socket does appear to be soldered direct to the main board...

Crack it open. See what's happening around the power jack. If you're lucky you could reflow the solder joints, if unlucky and the socket is actually broken then it could probably be easily replaced. If super unlucky, and the power socket is attached to a board, the board has had a mischief befall it such as a crack, a broken trace or a solder pad come away. That's less fun. You might be able to bodge around it.

the Audix i5 is very similar to an sm57, i'll pack a small towel in the kit, that might be the best solution. i'm assuming you aim it up at the bridge? matt

SubsonicSimpleton started following Which Mic to use for this gig?

When I used to do a double bass + vocal duo, my favourite quick and dirty solution for open mic type situations (where typically PA is tops only) was to wrap whatever vocal mic they had in a bit of towel and tuck it down the back of the tailpiece - I'd seen other people advocate for wrapping a 57 in foam and tucking it between the legs of the bridge, but that approach takes a little more care getting the fit right.

Using column PA speakers as stage monitors?
dave_bass5 replied to Beedster's topic in PA set up and use
I don tic the drums, other than the kick. We do place a small digital recorder close to the kit, this is for the IEM mixes and recording only, not FOH. Problem is, even that picks up his monitor, so gets quite a lot of the mix as well. That's really not a big deal though. He point blank reuses to use Headphones or IEM's and will never budge. Unfortunately he owns the monitors so it's not like I could 'forget' to bring them to the gig. -

Close mic the drums (as close to the skin as you can get) and gate the hell out of them to control the mush. For most of our gigs, mic ‘ing the drums is a bit overkill for front of house but essential for IEM’s and our drummer definitely plays better and more consistently on IEM’s. Quite often his drum mic’s are not in the front of house mix, save for a well eq’d and gated bass drum.

I might be in the minority as a PA owner but i don't actually have an SM58 in my collection, the mic's I've got available are a mix of mics belonging to bandmates (who also part own the PA) and the ones I've bought for recording over the years. I don't sing myself and if i did I'd probably buy anything except the SM58 (I just like being different/difficult) Matt

I can switch to 4 as well without too much trouble, but I can't do a set with any of my bands with a 4 string bass, so if I took a 4 string bass to a gig I would also need to take a 5 string, and then what is the point. So I buy 4 strings, end up not playing them and then sell them. Repeat cycle!

These seem to be getting a bit rarer but despite chasing one of these for years after selling my first i think i need to acknowledge my back needs some lighter weight gear. Here we have a USA made SVT III which preceded the current 3pro's. This one has the much famed SVT IIP preamp couples with a big old led sled solid state power amp. 3 x 12AX7's give it a nice throaty growl but there is no full on valve distortion here just a nice old school type roar. Is missing one slider cap but can still be changed with a plectrum - not that i use the graphic EQ anyway. A few of the pots could do with a blast of deoxit as the amp has been set at my fave EQ and never really changed. I dont have a rack case or anything so ideally its collection from Bolton only but could meet within reason. Possibly consider a part ex for an Ashdown Little Bastard/CTM30 Pics to follow asap

I'd find that a handy feature too. I'm impressed with folks like @40hz who can easily switch between the two. I have to stop and think for a moment whenever I have to do that.

This is not a basschat.co.uk event so not sure if it counts (looks like Janek has decided to steal the Bass Bash name from you lot though!) But is anyone else going to this? Give me a shout if anyone is going and fancies meeting for a beer after.
