  1. Past hour
  2. I am not the greatest bass player in the world, I’m just a tribute 🤘🏽
  3. When user serviceable domestic mains plugs were the norm screw clamped terminals made it possible for average home owners to rewire plugs. Back in the day, there were several types of mains plug and it was necessary to be able to change them to suit the type of socket at the user's home. People are no longer expected to do this so plugs are now crimped and sealed. Crimping is widely used in electronics. It's particularly useful in avionics when aluminium wire is used to save weight. You can't solder aluminium. Hooray for crimping!
  4. Just arrived, shall report back later 😁
  5. I received a Kala U-Bass for my birthday this year. Acoustic with internal pickup of some kind. It really is awesome. Having a much fatter sound than my bass guitar, I use on those days when my back is too bad to contemplate lugging my double bass to a gig or practice session.
  6. … I think I’ll have one of these on my shopping list also 😎
  7. Just looked those up. Not a piece of hobbyist equipment, but very impressive. Presumably you clear coat varnish afterwards to protect the paint? You mentioned help from your wife, is she the artist or does she own a a print shop? Or both?
  8. I got the Deep Impact for just over £300 delivered, with original box and manual, in immaculate condition. Rather amazing deal.
  9. The v4 sound quality is a noticeable improvement over the previous versions.
  10. I'm loving my uke basses too. Just laying down a nice little hack that I thought of and actually worked. To solve the common complaint of the fat poly strings being far too grippy, I slid some paper under the strings and gave the strings a light rub down with 800 grit wet and dry paper to take off the glossiness of said strings. Worked a treat! I can now slide about as much as I need to. Took less than 5 mins. I have a Harley Benton mahogany, and a Batking fretless btw. I keep them in the car to learn new tunes on while I'm waiting around for my boys to finish scouts or whatever dad's taxi run I might be on!
  11. Reviving this topic to see who people are going to for repairs in York these days?
  12. I think it was a version 2, but I can't be sure.
  13. Ah the switches are the fun part! Goes from P to ray with a hot jazz in between. Leo's finest IMHO
  14. Today
  15. We had a good night last night.
  16. I'm not sure if the word it out, but at the SE Bass Bash Chris Childs said he's selling his Sandberg fretless. I had a quick go on it and it's a really nice bass (but I don't need another fretless).
  17. This is a 6SL7 tube, the ones in a B15, so that pretty much confirms it!
  18. I listened to my friend Paul Turner play the Deep Impact v the Future Impact at Paul's house. I preferred the Deep Impact sound, so I grabbed one when I got a crazily good condition at a stupidly low price (well, stupidly low for a Deep Impact)
  19. Why the Deep Impact though? DI is massively overpriced and far inferior to the Future Impact. By the designer’s own admission the processor in the DI is really low quality. FI does all the DI sounds and far more, all with superior sound quality and tracking for far less money.
  20. After 24 hours of continuous rain we were not surprised that turnout was a little low at the Bricklayers in Sharnford last night. Especially given that the pub is next to the river. In fact as we left the landlord came out to fix the last few sections of the flood barrier in place! As usual it was a tight squeeze in the corner. It was great to play at a lower volume though as we could hear everything and had no sacrifice of tone. The guitarist took his Mesa Boogie but had a tiny little Vox amp plugged into the speakers rather than using the Mesa amp - much easier to get a decent tone without volume. Well it sounded good to all of us anyway. As I said, a selective audience but some of them had travelled quite a distance, which was appreciated by us. We even got some up dancing (ok, it was the WAGS 😂) I don't often do vids but this one isn't too bad, even if it is me singing!
