  1. Past hour
  2. Purchased Mike’s Aguilar Octamizer. Great comms, quick postage, well packed - couldn’t ask for more!
  3. Have you got room for one more? Yamaha RBX765: 5-string '80s solid body. Ibanez EW205: 5-string ABG. Ibanez EHB1265MS: 5-string fanned fret, headless. Hohner B2AV: 5-string active cricket bat. Home-brewed briefcase - battery/mains 175 Watts through twin 5 inch speakers. Eminence Basslite 10 in home-brewed cab *2 Ashdown Mybass Mk I (500w) Warwick Gnome Vong HPF/LPF pedal
  4. Here's my favourite workhorse bass, I played this one for a good couple of years until my neck/back issues reduced the weight I'm comfortable with down to 'something starting with a seven', so I just don't use her any more. A shame, because (and I say this as a massive P fanboi) it's a very well built P/J which simply does the job. The J pickup in particular is very strong...not that I ever used it (see 'massive P fanboi' above). I'm a tinkerer, so at one point she had another bridge and some Ultra-lites on her, but she's back to stock now (same bridge holes and just four very small holes behind the stock tuners where the Ultra-lites used to be)...one thing I never even thought about changing was the pickups; if you like a good passive P/J, they're it, frankly. She's strung with new D'Addarios. She weighs between 8 1/2 and 9 pounds, which is sadly out of my range these days. Condition is very good (tho she could do with a bit of a polish), I've tried to show the small dings/bruises and two tiny chips. I'd much rather meet up (I can drive 75 miles from Manchester to meet), but if I really have to post, let's say £20 and cross fingers.
  5. Just standard MIM pickups on a 1399 bass immediately puts me off. Too expensive.
  6. Don't worry, I'm sure the MiUSA prices will go up accordingly
  7. Lekato Transmitter/Receiver running 5.8Ghz, so well out of the problematic 2.4Ghz range. Fully working, you can run this one way from a mic to the desk (it's XLR connectors) or the other way round from the desk to a headphone amp like the Behringer P2. I've lost the dual USB charging lead, but they'll come with a single one, and they're ubiquitous these days (except in my house, apparently). Here's Lekato's blather, which focuses on the mic -> desk usage, but as I say they work great the other way round, too. https://lekatodeal.com/en-uk/products/wireless-5-8ghz-microphone-system-plug-on-xlr-transmitter-receiver £80-ish new now, so how about £55 pick up/£60 posted?
  8. Possibly - it was a reference to Pink Floyd and another Brick in the wall. The shouting teacher says it
  9. Certainly!!! We will have a broad set list but it's not going to go crazy, so no obscure b-sides for the beard-strokers, it's all got to be big hits that people will sing along to, no off-kilter genres like acid house... No disrespect to acid house of course, but it's quite niche compared to Whitney Houston and Bruce Springsteen. As for the image, the first question I got back from the guitarist when I messaged him about the band was "can we dress like Miami Vice?" The answer was a massive YES! I asked the sax/ keys guy if he would be up for dressing the part too and his response was "I can go to 80s theme nights wearing my ordinary clothes, I just roll the sleeves of my blazer up" said in a knowing tone that inferred he is very much 80s style in his ordinary clothes.
  10. That was mean! 😁
  11. WTAF ? is he a spy who really didn’t do the homework before going out on an assignment? 🤷‍♂️
  12. Pfft. saw a video today - they seem pretty much “closet classic” to which end… Charcoal Frost 😍
  13. No instrument becomes more road-worn in your care. Barely even gets warm … 😛
  14. This was bought for a project that suddenly found itself without an endpoint, so I'm clearing out. It was fitted to a bass and then a few weeks later removed. No marks, fully working (obv). Comes with all the gubbins. Per EMG: 'The HB was developed for Steinberger Sound for their infamous headless bass. It is a ceramic P-Style bass pickup in a guitar humbucking housing. The ceramic magnet adds presence, punch, and loads of output. It is recommended for bass guitars with a string width of less than 2 inches.' Here's the full data link: https://www.emgpickups.com/hb.html IIRC it was around £90, so how about £55 pick up (har har)/£60 posted in the UK?
  15. I would still love to see a Pre/DI based on a Subway valve design (or this one).
  16. £50 price reduction Trades - X Touch Universal. Try me with anything, I can only say no 😁 Great bass in good condition, comes with hard case. Short scale. Not a heavy bass. Plays well. Not really any damage to speak of. There’s a little bit at the top of the headstock (photographed) but looks much worse than it actually is. I’ve removed the strap lock pins and replaced them with the originals that were odd when I got it. The case is old but fully function and all the clasps work. Can post at buyers expense or can be collected from BB22SH Any questions please ask.

  17. I had the stereo and sold it. Regretted it and bought the mono. It really is the Swiss Army knife of amp world. I’ve got a Markbass Evo 1 to try out at the moment which basically, has the Multiamp amps and effects but has two independent channels, which is exactly what I need. I think it’s what I’ve been looking for, for a long time 😁
  18. Andy, at the risk of derailing a thread celebrating what is probably an outstanding unit, when I saw the photo I have to admit my heart leapt as for a few seconds I assumed it was an all tube head. Dare I ask whether Mesa have any plans to build a small-format all-tube head like the Ampeg PF-50t?
  19. Can you really separate the music from its meaning and purpose though? That's kind of what I'm asking. If that's ok in music, is it ok everywhere else? Should you wear a swastika t-shirt because you enjoy the shapes and colours, and ignore the meaning? I don't think this is an easy question to answer btw, music is different to visual media and meaning and purpose are multi-layered and change over time, as others have pointed out, but it's interesting that there is no clear consensus. Some people suggest that the meaning doesn't matter, others say it does matter but as long as it's approached with care it's ok, and a few think it really matters and it can't be ignored. Lots of grey areas.
  20. Yeah ,was just looking at the prices too Lozz, I thought they were USA when I saw the truss rod adjustment at the heel
  21. In mint condition and barely been played, no dings or marks. Active 2 band EQ and pull switch passive option, both sound thunderous, the active treble control can get quite fizzy when you really wind it up. Totally no issues, there is no case or bag but I do have a proper shipping box. Shipping UK £12. Collection IP31.
  22. Wow, £1399! I’m sure they’re great but does seem high, pretty near Made in USA prices.
  23. Or you could just arch your hand and play through the strings with your fingers and the difference is quite minimal from a pick.
  24. There's also the American side of 80s music - glam/hair metal, swingbeat, early rap, all that kind of thing, as well as all the stuff that was big on the eastern side of the pond. Regarding the image, yes, I agree - there was a lot of enormous hair, bad fashion and inappropriate makeup back then, and their photo spreads in the likes of Smash Hits and Look-In sold as many records as their music did. But the surviving bands from that era who are still out there playing their stuff are now the same old blokes as those who would be playing that stuff in cover bands, just with a larger costume budget. Duran Duran are all in their mid-60s now, with their audience not too far behind, and they're still selling out tours!
