    Nice double humbucker version of the Sub4 with some little tweaks (or major as the pre amp is rather nice). Comes with a rosewood neck, presented in an unmarked metallic blue. So mods.. As with my other Sub2 listing, i dont like the cheap looking bridge on the Sub4 series, so this has been upgraded to the pre 2017 EB stingray version. 2 band JOHN EAST pre amp. Nuff said. its the dog danglies and unobtainium at the moment. Hipshot detuner, most excellent if you are into rage against the machine detuning mid gig. I know i have done it and it sounds great. Really stable and repeatable to use. Artec pickups. I tried the stocks and a few otherS i have laying around and the artecs are a really good match for the Je pre. Not too hot and well voiced. Carbon fibre style car wrapped scratchplate (over the original plain white) Its fully set up, in as new condition, not a boat anchor but not silly Glarry light either, around 9 lbs, perfect weight for longs gigs. I have gigged this bass a number of times and its a great gig ready instrument. New these are £499 so priced keenly bearing in mind there are £200+ mods on board. Can ship at buyers expense (insured), meetup anywhere nearish to the M25. or pickup/try out, Rochester, Kent

    So, I bought this as a Maple Neck and pretty much unmarked 3TSB body combo (matching headstock), nicely pre-routed for a battery box (this is a MB4 which is passive normally) I built this up as a gigging bass so have chosen nice hardware. Sub 4 pre amp and controls plate. pre 2017 style Mman bridge. Dual coil DELANO pickup Series/Parallel switching Fret End dressed so no finger biters here. The fretting is really good considering to price point. Takes a good low action and I have bevel filed the fret ends so good to go. 'ray scratchplate. Currently strung with flats (a la Bernard Edwards). I have gigged this bass and it sounds and plays great. Not heavy or Noisy. No issues, i just dont play 4 string as much as i did. Meet up anywhere around the m25, also can post for an additional £30, always insured. Pickup from Rochester is also an option.

    Well my Z7 (solid finish so not ash, CBA looking up what it is got back to the computer, it's alder) is 9 and a half pounds, and I don't consider that to be particularly heavy.

    Spot on. My Z7 with the ash body is 11.2 lbs and on a 2 hour gig it`s just too heavy. Pity too as I love everything else about it.

    This is a fine, almost mint example of one of these basses. I believe there are not many of these about. I succumbed to the temptation a couple of years ago, but I have no real use for this lovely thing. I can only find one tiny ding, on the rear lower bout. Otherwise perfect. And shiny shiny gold, with a nice dark fingerboard, and matching headstock. It plays very nicely, with all the fretless jazz sounds one might expect. Plus, it looks amazing. Yes, I am shallow. So bite me. My travel scales say it weighs 4kg bang on, so quite light I think. Nut width is 38.6mm, last fret is 64.4mm. This is not a fretless conversion: it started life as a fretless in the factory. Side dots are on the fret positions. It comes with a decent Bass Collection padded bag, with shoulder straps etc. £350 to you, guvnor. I will post very reluctantly, at additional cost, or I will meet within a reasonable distance. Or you can collect. I'm sure I must have forgotten something, so ask me if you want more info.

    Or have a change of thought on the role the bass takes in this particular band, moving to a more supportive instrument laying down a rock solid foundation with the drums. A band I really like that had keys was Rainbow and the various bassists although they played interesting lines they were def supporting the rest of the band really well.

    Wrong on several counts, I'm afraid. No amount of changing tone will prevent harmonic clashes - typically caused by keys and bass playing passing notes that are a semitone or tone apart. All that will result from changing the bass tone to cut more is accentuation of those clashes. No keyboard part is set in stone. It shouldn't be for the bass player to "remember that a piano is played with two hands and work with the keyboard player"? The bass has little choice about what to play, especially when playing covers. Obviously, you have to stay in your lane and avoid clashing with other instruments (I rarely if ever venture above the fifth fret). The main issue, as I point out above, is keyboard players playing the same way in a band context as they would solo, filling all the holes and taking up too much sonic real estate. As others state, songs by the likes of Elton and Billy Joel are properly arranged. It isn't by chance that the keys and bass (or keys and other instruments) don't fight one another.

    If it's actually a serious unresolvable team problem the only solution is a Jazz or PJ and go Jaco honk thru the bridge PU only and crank the mids and vol ....That'll get everyones attention asap.
