You've also got to bear in mind, modern amps and cabs can make any bass with flats sound different to the olden days when valves and boomy cabs were the only option. There's an awful lot of hi-fi bass rigs about nowadays that can give a much more precise and detailed version of the flatwounds sound. That clarity, power and punch can negate some of the reasons why bassists ditched those strings in favour of roundwounds.

Small update - frets have been levelled and recrowned. I think the neck did need it, the fret material didn't come off universally so I hope i made an improvement. Also, French polish arrived from @kodiakblair - legend, cheers!

A 1.5hr covers set on a stage with enough room, good monitoring and an engineer who knows their apples. A hundred or so enthusiastic punters and some nice comments afterwards. I don't need a backline provided (I'd rather play on my own gear; old fashioned, I know....) or anything flashy. Payment is nice but not essential. That's about it, really.

Ah cool. Keeps things interesting if nothing else. Yes great guys in there but the shown stock isn't a true reflection. There's a bass I sold there on commission recently that's still not marked as sold yet either 😅 Enjoy the Elrick. You in a way echoed my sentiments about the Bart pickups.

Opening for celebrity level bands is always fun. I only have two under my belt, Charlie Daniel's (RIP) and Peter Frampton. The one with Frampton probably doesn't count. We just happened to be the band that played before him on a multi band festival stage. Daryl

For Sale: Burns Marquee Long Scale (34") Bass *Brand New Out Of The Box*!! This instrument is from the same old client of mine as the red MIM Jazz I sold last week. This one didn't even make it into a Gig Bag until I put it into one after taking it out of the original packing box. (Apologies for the Polystyrene dust!) The Marquee has a variety of available sounds via the three Burns "TriSonic" chromed pickups. Controls are Volume/Volume/Tone with a five-way Blade Switch, giving it a sort of 'mudbucker' sound, a Gibson EB3 sort of sound, a Precision-esque sound, a Jazz-ish sound, and a back pickup sound. There's also a 'Vintage' control via pulling the Tone Control upwards, much like a modern Rickenbacker has. The Bass is totally unmarked and as you'll see from the pictures, still has the labels hanging from the tuning pegs and the polythene cover is still on the Scatch Guard. The transparent red burst finish is very nice too. Price is £375. Trades considered, buyer to collect from DE7, or will happily meet half way, max distance 100 miles (up to 200 miles in total to you from DE7.) -

Yes, that's what I have. It provides a check of each plug and tells you if it's correctly wired and grounded or not. I'm no electrician (and the guys who put in the cabling also have an RCD) but I do it every venue I go to now to ensure me and my equipment will be OK. One of the singers in my band got a shock one gig and we ended it early as we had no faith in the safety of the venue. After that, I didn't want to take any risks. -

Anyone bought a cheap (Chinese) neck off eBay?

It may jolly well be. I've bought two Chinese fretless necks of eBay thus far. They are very well built. The only issue, aside of side dots placed where they would be on a fretted one, with the first (with coated maple fingerboard) was its width at the nut (38mm). The second one was more of a hit than I expected. Although described as having a rosewood fingerboard, it's actually got an ebony one. At least, it looks and feels like ebony. Love it. As for the first one, I'd love to ship it free of charge should anyone here need one. The screw holes at the heel are drilled to fit into a Sire P7. -

As I've said before how do you establish the monetary value of a piece of music? There are songs on my current band's forthcoming album that I have been working on over the last 40 years, and others that were written from start to finish in a single 3 hour practice session.
