  2. I love Dimarzio Precision PUPs, they have a lovely mix of clarity and grunt. But yes, a lot of wires to find a home for. Worth the struggle though 👍
  3. A pleasure doing business Keir,I had forgotten about the Valenti, wonder where it is now,
  4. My father decided to save machines and destroy young. He became a teacher. (But my grandfather was a player and had a garage until his death.)
  5. The dressing / green room provided to us at Edison Hall. Not bad at all. Daryl
  6. Hi, I was lucky enough to have a BFM Omni 10.5 with four tweeters donated to me by @neepheid at the NW Bass Bash. It was a fine sounding cabinet when we tried it out with @Mottlefeeder Warwick Gnome amp. The more discerning amongst you will notice the past tense in the previous sentence. There was an issue with a switch that sometimes seemed to work and sometimes not. So I decided to pull the back off and have a look at the switch with my multimeter. I assumed a loose connection. As I removed the back of the cabinet, I somehow managed to disconnect one of the cables to the bass driver. The bass speaker is a rather nice "Eminence DELTALITEII2510 10-Inch Neodymium Series Speakers - Series II" according to Google reverse image lookup. To be honest I'd never have got it from the markings on the speaker itself but that's another story. So one of the bass speaker cables is off and I can't work out where it came from. I think it's one of two places, either the red square or the purple rectangle. The light green is the end of the wire. I've checked the BFM website and community section but it's light on photos and so have come to bow down with sackcloth and ashes and ask for help. This is so embarrassing. Oh and if anyone has a Warwick Gnome for sale, ping me a message Any help welcomed Thanks Rob
  7. Then, me as a player, and @agedhorse as a designer, we are interested in specs. Whether they are comparable or not is up to us players. We should want comparable, fair numbers, not marketing hype. 2 kW looks good, although it has not very good relation to reality, especially in this known case. And watts are not about loudness. dB is the right number, but without a cab and its specs, it cannot be given. (I understand marketing a bit here.) Try before you buy is the best option for us players. What is a problem, is the space where the combo is tried: I set my amp exactly the same way in big venues and in our rehearsal space, but the "thundering lows" are hidden for some reason (size matters) in the latter.
  8. See The Lights - Simple Minds
  9. What's the argument for calling that a bass (with extra high strings) and not a guitar (with extra low strings)?
  10. Thanks for your comments-yes a truly beautiful looking and sounding bass.
  11. Audition with a band for the first time in several decades tonight 8pm so fingers crossed.🤞
  12. Can anyone provide some tips on how to set the input gain? Also which amps are people using out of curiosity? I can’t seem to decide between the Concert amp and Studio for a clean tone.
  13. This is exactly where i am at the moment. Trying to decide between B2 Four, B6 & GT-1B after years of a B3. Good to hear you’re happy with yours and the choice you made! I would only be using it mainly for preamps/amp sims and was leaning towards the B6 because of being able to have more control of the IRs and cab sims. But, as I only use a few effects the B6 may be overkill. Also leaning towards staying with zoom as I’m familiar rather than the Boss I think I’m leaving it in the hands of the gods and see what comes available at the right price first!

  18. Which part of FOH? The mixing desk? It's a tool I think they are awesome and I wouldn't expect anyone to take Neve to a bar gig As for the studios - yes, we did used a computer to record the sound coming out of our amps but I don't think I can say that this or any respectable studio I know converted to digital:
  19. I did physics at school - but preferred chemistry - as you could lean to blow stuff up 😁 I discovered ping pong balls dissolved in nitric acid can be used to make make 'gun cotton' - it's amazing how long it took for my eyebrows to grow back even with all the hormones of a fifteen year old at the time.

A lil box arrived yesterday afternoon, I’m looking forward to sticking the business end of my nifty-fifty up in the shiny-shiny’s goggle box. It’s going to be interesting to see how it compares sat next to the QC.
  21. Long story short, no I can’t find it. I kept it safe for years and haven’t thrown it away but I’ve moved twice since and put things in storage and I can’t find it anywhere. That safe place I put it in is a bit too safe apparently. Sorry
  22. Many thanks to Pete Carlton for the images
  23. Don't forget, the M8 screws need washers in their pockets to spread the load. The force will be equal to the load on the inside so spreading it over a greater area than those two washers is redundant.
  24. If you like Bitty McLean and Sly and Robbie, which I think is a great combination, I’d recommend giving the album Forward a listen, really enjoyed it
  25. I finally found some unicorn pickups. A few years back I had a PJ Mustang bass I installed a set of Dimarzio Area PJ pickups into. I didn't want the firepower of Model P and J pickups, but wanted a noiseless J, and along came the Dimarzio Area set courtesy of EBay. I eventually sold the bass, but could never find another Area P pickup, aka a DP250. Dimarzio never published a web page for them or really acknowledge their existence. I assume their Sixties P pickup is the successor. Finally a set appeared from a UK seller on EBay, so I snapped them up! They are built like Model Ps, set into their cases with epoxy and with two wires per pickup half plus a chassis ground wire per half. Six wires to tuck away into the control cavity! These also have Alnico II magnets, which is apparently unusual. From memory they were fairly mild output and sounded like nice, detailed P pickups. Nothing unusual or astonishing but a nice take on a vintage pickup. Maybe I remember them more favourably as I thought they were extinct... The kicker is that I paid £140 for them and they came with a pickguard with a pre-loaded wiring harness. I didn't need the pickguard! I think the pickguard is also a Dimarzio offering. There is a terminal block for the pickups glued onto the pickguard. I can't transfer the harness due to the glue, but i don't want a stark white pickguard on either of my P Basses. I think Dimarzio offered these pre-populated pickguards for a while, but assumed you would want a white pickguard pre-drilled for a '60s style tugbar and pickup cover. I've seen 'The Bass Whisper' reviewing a similar pickguard and Model P set on YouTube.
