I’m afraid ‘bulky in the mids’ rather accurately describes me!😁
-
Nothing to loose... But, have you tried it passive? I've passivated 2 SR300, one with a P, tother with Maida Vale Stacked Coil Jazz pickups, an SR400 with Twin Coil DiMarzios and a SR500 with the Std Bartolinis. Couple with Pan, one with a 3 position switch, and no on-board tone control.

I've fitted the SE3A to a couple of Bass Collection basses (4 pot) and they are pretty good for the money. One of them developed crackly pots after a few years, the other one is still OK.

Bought some acoustic bass strings from Joel. Well packaged and just as described. Top Basschatter and would ( and probably will 😅!) buy from him again. Thanks Joel

Price drop - now 200 Selling this lovely Bitmap in great shape with original box - it's basically mint apart of velcro. These received significant software update last year with additional clipping modes etc. Red Panda has also very convenient web editor for presets. Happy to trade (with price adjustments) for interesting dirt pedals. Bitmap occupies my "loose spot" for additional dirt in pedalboard and I'm just happy to experiment. Basic overdrive I'm covering with Capo. The ones I would love to try are EAE, Damnation Audio, Broughton, Bearfoot, Hiero etc. Would've thrown 3leaf in but what are the chances

Does anyone know how to wire a 3 way switch?
Phaedrus01 replied to Phaedrus01's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm really pleased with the results. I'll have to get myself together and record some samples. The 8 coil pickup is very hot (not suprising) and full sounding. Then with the nfp you can get dub tones and most stuff in between as well as having an in built wah pedal if you wiggle the knob. But the graphite neck cleans everything up. -

Have lost the will to live with my Ibanez SR400 volume pot. Its a non standard pot that's soldered to the board. There's no equivalent pot that I can find, or a pot that will fit, and have the same diameter shaft that will fit the existing knobs. So I have two options, ditch the electronics, make it passive, blank off two holes and go that route. or Replace the pre-amp. A shadowski pre-amp is probably more than I want to spend. So thinking of taking a punt on the Artec. Anyone used one of these? I figure it must be better than a 25 year old Ibanez stock. I have the DXP and DXJ passive pickups. https://www.thomann.co.uk/artec_se3_basselektronik.htm?gad_source=4&gad_campaignid=1581403900&gclid=CjwKCAjwy7HEBhBJEiwA5hQNotlg5qVmdkmIFXkIzrbymxNpJCwbkNKlg38RMUSnd83RC-nDuTX3CRoCxZYQAvD_BwE

Waghorn lead time = 36 months. Rob's is very attractive. 3cyears is just too far beyond my planning horizon. Grainger and Jon yet to respond but they've not had the enquiries long.

Just read the thread from the beginning, and it looks like a superb project. I had a cousin of this bass way back in the 1990's, a B Bass V (same instrument but with a headstock and five strings) and 17-year old me loved it. I'll be very interested to see the project coming to fruition, and it looks like you know your eggs around a piece of wood!

This is very much a speculative listing - Glock rig, Blue Soul head and two matching Space Deluxe cabs. I've used this for bass guitar for approximately 10 years now I think. It has been and remains excellent. Unfortunately for me I'm starting to develop some problems leading me to consider if I need to look at some more lightweight options. The cabs weigh around around 20kgs each and whilst they are a very comfortable size there are clearly much lighter options around these days (which may or may not sound as good...). The head is no boat anchor, I think it is their first class D model perhaps, but again there are lighter options out there. Glock specs for both can be found here https://www.glockenklang.de/en/products/products_bass.htm

Phil Jones BG-450 in as-new condition. I'm a huge fan of Phil Jones gear as it's incredibly well made, hugely capable, feature packed and extremely compact. This combo really does need to be experienced first hand to be fully appreciated. Not only will it project your low B with authority at gigging volumes, it also sounds fantastic for music playback via the aux in. From the website - The Compact Plus BG-450 is the pinnacle of PJB’s line of small and light weight powerful compact bass combos. It is the same size as PJB’s C-4 speaker enclosure with a power amplifier that will reach up to 500 Watts with four internal 5” drivers. The BG-450 contains the latest proprietary PJB chrome dome drivers which are the most efficient five-inch speakers ever engineered by PJB. The result is a perfect pairing of power and driver efficiency that makes it the best sounding 4×5 combo ever made by PJB and, remarkably, with less weight. It has an incredible punchy sound that cuts through air as “a knife through butter” with a solid and powerful low-end response normally associated with a much larger combo. In the heart of this amp lies a formidable ultra-high-energy power supply using a Class D power amplifier for high efficiency which equals less heat and less weight, and is coupled with a pure Class-A, ultra-low noise pre amp. This combination completes a power section that achieves a massive dynamic range that allows the player to attain the best tone in any playing situation. The pre-amp design includes a single channel equipped with a variable gain input section that matches precisely with both active and passive basses. It also features a mute switch and the classic PJB 5-band precision EQ system that achieves the broadest range in tones imaginable with just 5 controls. This allows the player to effortlessly locate their perfect tone within seconds. The send /return FX patch can be blended to the direct signal allowing even more tonal opportunities. A secondary AUX input allows for practicing along with backing tracks via a 1/8” stereo jack. Back panel features include a Line Output jack that allows the BG-450 to be used in slave mode coupled with one or multiple amps, and a line input that provides the ability for an external pre-amp to be connected if desired. The DI balanced out can be pre or post EQ and offers a ground lift to avoid problematic hum. Speaker output is via a Speakon NL4 socket perfectly matched to run a C4 or C8 cabinet. The amp can run on any AC voltage from 100 volts to 240 volts. The Compact Plus puts out a punchy 300 watts into its own speakers and up to 500 watts when connected to an external cabinet. The BG-450 at max power will cover a wide variety of playing situations. Model: BG-450 Speaker Driver: 4X5 Inch PJB Driver Amplifier A class D amplifier with digital switch-mode power supply. Yeah about 80/20 neck/bridge does it for me, there’s still the thump but it’s not quite as bulky in the mids as the Precision.
