How Do You Keep Your Band Gigs Exciting?
bassbiscuits replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
At my last gig the guitarist had various broken string/tuning problems in between songs and me and the drummer ended up busking various 70s TV themes to amuse the audience in the meantime. It became a bit of a thing as the night went on, and was a lot better than awkward silence and shuffling about onstage. -

Bigguy2017 started following A Hagstrom tale of sucess and woe...
-
A long story... scratching my itch for a semi-acoustic bass I got my mitts on a Hagstrom Viking in natty sunburst. After a good clean and a setup I slapped on some GHS medium Scale flats and got down to playing. The good - some nice plunky '60s tones. The bad - neck dive (OK with grippy strap), odd ergonomics - the brige is up near the centre of the body (20 frets to body neck) which means your right hand falls over the bridge - you have to shove everything to the right to get anywhere near the neck pickup. The worst selector switch - a rotary six way (A / A+B / B and same with coil splits) with chicken head knob - a right flimsy crackly mess. Replaced with a Switchcraft short toggle (binned the meh coil splits) - so much better. Didn't play it a lot TBH, but when bro came round for a soul jam it seemed appropriate - out came the Hagstrom showing a big ding at the lower body edge. Closer inspection shows the top coming away from the side - hmmm... I did not knock it, it's been safe in the rack - and I live alone with no pets... looks like the glue gave out under pressure? Out with the G cramps and leather pads but no way will the gap close without totally crushing the thing... So any ideas for a fix? Drip in CA glue to stabilise? Sand down the high part and attempt a finish touch up?

I’ve had this but not as acute as your episode. For what it’s worth, I eventually had to see a consultant because it kept recurring in a milder form (and still does a bit when I get run down). She gave me these exercises to do which basically involve making yourself so dizzy that you nearly lose your breakfast. If you persevere, you eventually get your brain to compensate. It works. I could trust myself to ride a motorbike again and do all normal activities. These days, you probably don’t need to see a consultant, you can probably find the exercises on t’internet, e.g. https://www.entuk.org/patients/conditions/93/cawthornecooksey_exercises/ Good luck and recover quickly!

I dropped a b******k. This is the bass part to the track 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' from the 2017 Django Bates album, 'Saluting Sergeant Pepper' with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band. There is no way to post the tune itself on here and the only way to hear it is to buy the album. Sorry! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/sgt-peppers-lonely-hearts-club-band-django-bates/

Hello everyone, Having upgraded both my touring and backup boards to Cioks power supplies, this is now surplus to requirements. It has recently been serviced and re-capped, and everything works well. It comes with a useful amount of standard 2.1mm pedal leads in both short & long lengths, including the Voodoo Labs 18V adaptor lead, and a pair of mounting brackets. Also included, but not photographed, is a brand-new Thomann UK kettle/IEC lead. Everything is in used, but good overall condition, and ready to go to work! EDIT: Now only £80 for the lot, which includes mainland UK postage. No offers or trades please. Please message me if interested, and thanks for looking! Etienne

Hi all, Here we have my Fernandes Gravity 5x. Bought last year as a back up to my Warwick, but now being sold as I'm trying to move away from 5s and am looking for a different sound. There's not a lot of info out there about these, as they seem to be quite uncommon. It dates from 2008 and is made in China. Twin single coil pickups with vol, vol, tone. Simple as it gets. Tonally it's got a quite aggressive sound, the twin Jazz pickups are really high output, with a really punchy sound. You'll note the front pickup is moved towards the bridge compared to the usual J/J set ups, definitely gives it a funkier, mid-rangey sound. The tone pot is effective all the way round, giving a wide sweep of different tones (and a really funky rear pickup sound). B-string was the biggest surprise for me on this bass. It's very taught and defined, better than many other basses I've had at 4/5x the price. It's in 9/10 condition. It recently had a brand new input jack installed and plays very cleanly across all frets. A nice first foray into a 5 string for someone, or a great reliable, good sounding backup. Weight is a lovely 3.9 kg. Collection from Moreton in Marsh, which is located on the Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire/Warwickshire border. Will happily meet up within an hour's drive for handover, or a bit further for a small petrol contribution (purely due to the low cost of the bass). Thanks for looking!
