I'll try just out of curiosity. String ageing is fascinating. Anyone who has rattled inside a piano will know ancient, dust encrusted strings csn still sound harmonically rich. The strings we use are not going beyond their elastic limits and metal fatigue ought not to be an issue. Is it really the chemicals or just dirt from our skin that is changing the tone? The effects of string coatings suggest it may be.

Evri just typify a race to the bottom. By not implementing any corporate branding, uniform or vehicles, your entire perception of the company comes down to your local gig-economy delivery driver. Any complaint you might have becomes a drop in the ocean, because some halfwit will chime in with "our local driver is ded gud and always stops for a natter". I never ship anything with them and get nervous if anybody sends stuff with them.

Never had an issue selling 5 strings, I always price them to sell but not too cheap. Hope I've not just jinxed myself as I'll most likely be putting my EHB 5er up for sale soon!

X2 and you are looking at the Barefaced of the day but half as loud, except with your amp it would have been twice as loud.

Bought a BF Compact from Muzz in another dodgy BC car park meet 🤣 Cab exactly as described. Always good to put a face to a name too. Deal with confidence. Thanks again Muzz. Cheers Dunc

There’s a Spector at a certain UK dealers that I’m hoping someone will buy so I can’t/don’t. I would say only harder to sell in so much as you have to exclude 4 string only players as potential customers.

Try it and see if it returns enough brightness for your playing style. I'm not convinced doing this removes significant grime as the video maker suggests; I think it could be something to do with the winding being relaxed from the string core.

I am so unlikely to buy (and retain) a 4 string bass, I often get annoyed that the sales area doesn't have a filter to filter only 5 strings, then I remember it would have to be me that did that and I let me off

Really excited by this. Can't wait to see what a production version might look like.

As a newb to Spector this could be a silly question, but here goes... Why do a lot of 4 string models come with PJ pups and then you get to the 5 string of the same model and they have humbuckers?
-
Ill bet if you plug them all in, your bass will sound like a fridge door opening.

Very nice indeed. Great review! I’m still eternally happy with my Silverstone. I’ll have to paint the baffle blue though to make it properly authentic now! 😝 Great work by @stevie. I cannot find a reason to buy another cab that hasn’t been made by him.

Despite being sired in the 50’s, they’re still considered the industry standard for some reason. I think it’s mainly because engineers find them easy to place in a mix, compared to something which cuts through and refuses to be buried sound-wise. I’ve got a couple of nice American Original and FSR Standard Jazzes, and principally play them for my professional engagements with a 50’s/60’s Tribute Show. Otherwise, I use much more modern instruments. Interestingly, I’ve also got a Player series Mexican Jazz which is one of those ‘one in a batch of twenty’ ones that seriously punches above it’s weight. I don’t have a Precision at the moment - instead I have two Mustangs (one on rounds, one on flats) which do the job just as well, according to the engineer/producer at the last couple of sessions I did.

In this case it's not so simple, as the ports are tapered. Basic ported box speaker modeling software can't account for that. You can do it with a more sophisticated tool, like HornResp or Akabak, but they require a high degree of expertise. However I do happen to have that high degree of expertise, and my rate is reasonable. Free. ☺️

So I guess that means it has a slightly shorter E string than the 5?

See if you can pop along to Bass Direct and try out a Pulse II, a Euro LX/Classic and a Dimension HP. See which you prefer....

Harley Benton Block-800B vs bugera Veyron 1001M
Paddy777 replied to KinkMaster's topic in Amps and Cabs
The HB 800 Block is a cracking amp, I’ve read somewhere (probably Thomann haha) that it uses the same power amp as some amps significantly more expensive than it - I don’t know how true it is, but I have used it with a preamp in the return and it was excellent, sounded excellent flat too going through the amps preamp normally, for £299 great value. I don’t know much about the Bugera’s altho I almost bought one in the January sales a couple of years ago as they were like £120 or something ridiculous, I’ve actually never heard a bad thing about them - people who have them seem to like them, although I think most people agree that the whole “1000w” thing is stretching it a bit
