Continuing the Bruce Thomas theme, we leap forward in time to the 1986 album Blood And Chocolate. Track 2 side 1, a rousing, uncomplicated line from Thomas it features a bass hook at the start of each verse, a walking bass over the latter half ,and a bridge replete with, as he likes to put it himself, "the usual major thirds over tonic" ! Final 2025 dep gig on lead guitar with a pub covers band. Ticketed NYE pub event with family members on the guest list. All went really well and had to remind myself that a lot of the gigs can be grim with a really late drive home. Looking forward to 2026 with at least 3 happening band projects!

I’d like to develop the acoustic guitar playing side of things more. I play bass with three bands but my acoustic guitar playing is only ever part of my solo gig stuff. A while back I worked up a load of really nice grooves just experimenting with a basic looper pedal, and I’d love to develop those ideas into something for a duo that’s completely different from the other stuff I do. Edit: I’m summary I’d like to have the confidence to try out these original music ideas live!

A really great Mexican P bass from Fender! Bought new from Andertons in 2021 for a handful of gigs, and has been my backup P bass for a couple of years, but has spent most of its life on a guitar rack or in a case. All original apart from the Schaller strap locks (black). No case. Collection only from SW London.

We had a bonus gig today. Given that we are a Blackmore's Night style renaissance-folk-rock band, the chance to play in this genuine Tudor manor house was irresistible. 2 hours of ballads accompanied by octave mandolin, interspersed with seasonal tunes on recorder and tambourine. The venue: The owners suggested we play by the log fire and so we did our first acoustic set.

Oooo nice! Yeah I might hit you up when I’ve got something together!

Pretty much all our gigs are carbon copies of the ones before. The usual mix of uninterested pub goers, drunken tosspots and thankfully a few who appreciate half decent live music to make it seem all worthwhile but mainly nothing much to report here! So our NYE gig was a at a sports and social club in Warrington, new to us so no idea on what to expect. A sold out ticket event of 200 mixed aged partygoers so it was going to be a mixed bag of reactions. Probably not going to be everybody's cup of tea but heyho. Understandably started a bit subdued but it was a good (polite) crowd. Second set improved and just got better and better. We played well, PA was great and was well enjoyed by all with some very positive comments. The best gig I've done for about 15 years I should think.

@Al Krow absolutely! That's quite the leak!

Guess I'm surprised that they've allowed it to go on sale ahead of general release though? Seems unusual in terms of commercial practice?

If part financed by others, shouldn't whose decision it was then come into it? If entirely the decision of the BCer, it's a fail, if it's a democratic decision or an autocratic one where the autocrat is other than the BCer, it isn't a fail.

Changing/adjusting overly-bright LEDs in pedals?

Just use tape - add layers till you get the desired effect -
My Anagram arrived a couple of days ago, but haven’t had chance to try it yet. I used to have the Orange Terror bass amp, so am keen to try that new model

This is a parts bass made with a JV Precision neck and neck plate, all the original JV hardware (tuners, string tree, bridge and headstock strap button). Pickup is a mid 2000’s MIM Fender and the electrics were with the body which is a Y series early 2000 Chinese Squier. The scratch-plate is from a Korean Squier and I also have the original but cracked Chinese scratch-plate. I bought the JV neck and parts minus the original body. The neck had to have a snapped screw removed from the neck butt before it was doweled and filled by the luthier. The serial number, neck plate and Squier hardware are all from one bass. The neck plate has some corrosion but the JV serial number is visible. Although listed as a project the bass plays well as is. It has been set up with a low action wearing D’Addario strings. The truss-rod works and frets are good. The necks on these early Japanese Squiers are fantastic as no doubt you are aware. The instrument is reasonably light at 3.8kgs and sounds like a typical Precision. Selling at what it cost me in parts. No trades sorry, pickup preferred but I can post in the UK only at buyer’s cost. I will include a worn but well padded gig bag.

I owned a Sei for a short while many moon ago (time stamp on these pics say it was 20 fecking years ago...Wow),Sold all but one my basses and guitars to get the Ca$h together to buy it (as i recall it was £1250 off of ebay from a guy in blackpool) I Sold after i got the self building bug to buy a load of wood working tools/gear and wood to start building my own stuff.....have to say It was a fantastic feeling/playing (& looking) bass with the highest craftmanship i've seen...but the Barts/Preamp seemed to lack any punch and i couldn't get anything like the grit i could get from my Spector/TP (which was the only bass i kept)... Pics (in case anyone recognises it !)... i had the matching Buckeye knobs made by a guy in the USA (£75 for the set, that's not something i be willing to pay for these days! (just because i could cnc them myself )

Farsley, so not a million miles from you!

Yes, but did you pay for it 100% yourself or was it part financed my others?
