  1. Past hour
  2. I've just had an email from Strings Direct telling me that tomorrow is World Strings Change Day. At about £30 a bass plus a tenner per guitar, that's about a thousand quid I've got to find, not to mention two days of work. I think I will ignore it and hope it goes away.
  3. Indeed, sorry. I do have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about the metric system. Certainly better than one of those! Ahhhhhhh, the iPhone 4? Seems a perfectly sensible height to me. I asked him how much he weighed but then I think that's volume? I'll submerge him in the bath...
  4. Buy some Rotosound RS66, they will be bright for a few days and will have the same tone for at least a decade afterwards.

  6. Open to sensible offers on this as I have my eye on something else.
  7. Only bought this a couple of weeks ago from another Basschat member, given it a run out at a couple of rehearsals but just isn’t my kind of sound so I’m listing it back up for what I paid for it. Rat based distortion with bass and treble eq controls, can do the lower gain thing but really shows what it can do at higher gain sounds. Price includes postage in the UK, cheers!
  8. First outing with a metal band in drop A, next week is a pop rock covers band. Nothing I can complain about - sounded huge.
  9. My first foray into modding a bass which I have dubbed “The Paiste Bass “ due to an old Paiste sticker on the rear.. This is an old plywood body that had been rough painted by the previous owner. It had Warlock shaped horns which I have taken off and rounded into a more traditional shape.I have sanded back the paint, oil finished the bare wood and then clearcoated with gloss nitrocellulose. It features a new gloss maple Chinese neck which I have rolled the fretboard edges dressed the frets so they have lovely smooth fret ends. The decal is blended in.with. Polyurethane clearcoat. I can guarantee that there is not another bass in existence like this one. You can see from the photos, which form part of the description, that it has a heavy relic vibe. The action and sound are lovely and it plays far above its price point. It was not created to look perfect but to be a no-nonsense gigging beast that performs brilliantly without the worry of it getting knocked, dinked or dented. I have tried to make it something that really works for the gigging player. It is truly more than the sum of its parts. As I built this bass, I can bore you in great detail with its journey along with photos as well . SPECS: Bass weight 8.7lbs Wilkinson PJ pickups Wilkinson Bridge Bloodstone Guitars upgraded PJ electronics - volume/volume/tone Nitro gloss finish on body Gloss poly Maple neck No fret wear as neck is new Truss rod fully working Schaller type strap buttons D’Addario EXL165 strings 0.45 - 0.105 Fully set up and intonated ready to go Again, this bass plays like an absolute dream and I would be happy to keep it in my collection and to gig with it. The bass comes with a new 10mm padded Donner gig bag. Any questions or queries, please message me and I can send more photos as well if you wish. Collection from Fleet, Hampshire and you are welcome to give it a trial play on collection to ensure that it all works and you are happy. I am absolutely open to sensible offers.
  10. These were equivalent to the Realistic/Tandy gear of these old days, not very powerful, but totally usable.
  11. Wow! 😍 That's an absolute corker of a bass @karlfer! Red, black, mojo and everything... 😁 If I didn't have 576,000 too many basses already (according to a recent survey commissioned by Mrs Silverfoxnik), I'd be on the A1 to Darlington already... GLWTS 👍😊
  12. It was, in fact, a light version of the Nautilus programmable preamp. 😉
  13. Hi!!! 19mm Spacing!!!!
  14. I have an Arpege 4 and a Passion II, haven't played a Passion IV yet. I'd love the Arpege electronics with the Passion pickup placement. If you like fatter, warmer tones, go with the Arpege. If you like growl, go with the Passion.
  15. Okay, so this 1986 Vigier preamp was meant to have an extra memory slot thanks to a cartridge which is a RAM (Random Acces Memory) meaning you can store your sounds (EQ settings) and recall them afterwards. The ROM (Read Only Memory) is almost the same, except that the sounds (EQ settings) are factory prerecorded and can't be edited. There were a few ROMs available back then, but mainly for guitar...
  16. Beautiful 👍
  17. The Arpege IV doesn't have ROMs Electronic Pickup brand name : Vigier Type of pickup : Single, twin coil in line Switch : Balance Controls : Volume Balance Equalizer for bass pickup: Bass Medium Treble Equalizer for treble pickup: Bass Medium Treble https://www.vigierguitars.com/catalog/index.php?id_product=42789&controller=product&id_lang=1
  18. That’s certainly my first impression, particularly when listening to IMA’s playing and tone etc with is very often quite old school.
  19. That's kind of what I've read on Talkbass. Still intrigued by others experiences, but apparently these are much more round than flat. Which kind of goes against the super polished tag line. Might not be a bad string, but maybe not what you're expecting when you buy them.
  20. Two coming soon, only got Saturdays booked today!
  21. I read that but still no clue what are cartridges and ROM and how it's working. A also read the manual for Series III but isn't it different from series IV?
  22. Noodle also wanted to help with the restringing,so here he is with his very own offcut:
  23. The regular super polished felt like played in groundwounds to me, but definitely had that clarity of steel. The stickiness went away pretty quickly on them, so hopefully the same for the IMAs.
  24. Pineapple - Sparks
  25. For what it’s worth - I used to run an amp DI live but have moved over to that small board with the BassRig and don’t think I’d go back. The BassRig box is good. The SVT is “a sound” - one that will work for most things - but it was not designed for versatility like the Capo. I’m aiming for two things 1) Consistent FOH send every time that already sounds great. 2) The ability to EQ for the stage without compromising the FOH sound. For me, “great” isn’t just an unprocessed DI. If I have to use the backline to make the sound I want then I can’t tweak it for the stage without affecting the PA mix. My current set up effectively gives me two amps - one for the desk and one for stage. At the moment the only thing I might swap the BassRig for is the Ampeg equivalent box - but just for the B15 sound.
