  2. Dinner dinner dinner dinner, Batman! - 60s tv theme by Neal Hefti
  3. How could we forget?
  4. Had a decent one breaking in our new guitarist and drummer... It's made me realise that some of our songs are quite complicated and not easy to learn, especially as guitarman doesn't know music theory. While some are just a straight-ahead thrash, in the others I have to show what "this bit goes down chromatically in major thirds" or "emphasise the diminished fifth" means. And one song has ten different sections... But luckily he's got a good ear and plays instinctively. And new drummer actually listens carefully to the bassline and vocal before committing to a beat. As a result, drumming is funkier, guitar punkier and a bit more metal which I think will be a Very Good Thing!
  5. Hungry Ice - Eric Carmen
  6. The bass player bought my MIJ PB-62 reissue when they came to play a gig in Morecambe. Nice chap.
  7. How would you describe the tone and build quality? I'm thinking about getting one of these very soon and have heard so many mixed things!
  8. I wanted to give the Hartke a go through my cab (old barefaced 1x15 compact) but alas didnt have a speakon to jack cable with me. Maybe next time ill give it a go as i really want to see if the head was giving it the beans or the cab
  9. Anyone tried these for UB? very little info out there except loud fan noise and noisey switching. Looks too good to be true except the price tag!
  10. Always been my experience, there's nothing wrong with modern lightweight gear at all, but likewise there's nothing wrong with old heavy gear, they just have different qualities 👍
  11. Contact the Scottish Bass Trust about lessons. They are hosting an event in Edinburgh on 1st June http://www.Scottishbasses.com
  12. And for some genres Compact Cassettes are a viable option. When The Terrortones released our mini-album on cassette we sold enough copies to make a small profit even though you could download the tracks for free from Bandcamp. And a band who we played with at Whitby in April - Social Youth Cult - were selling their EP on cassette. Our synth player was going to buy one because he still has a cassette player in his car, but they had packed up their merch and gone before the last band of the night had finished playing, re-enforcing my assertion that in order to maximise your merch sales you need to stay until the last punter has left the venue.
  13. Gotta give some credit to those old Hartke heads too which just consistently deliver the goods.
  14. Thanks, Walshy. I’ve measured and I can’t find any specs online that would indicate if they’d fit well. Next time I restring I’ll push the bushings out and get a more accurate measurement with the callipers. I’ll spend a bit of time researching too. If you don’t manage to sell them, I’ll come back to you 🙂 cheers! Andy
  15. Looks like the Carlsbro swap to green happened around the same time as Trace Elliot were making their first bass amps (1979/1980)
  16. Och aye, ya dinnae ken.
  17. I’ve had many other basses but after the initial honeymoon period I’ve always ended up picking up one of my jazzes or precision’s, they just feel like home to me so they are all I buy now
  18. Careful, someone will be along in a minute to tell you that on the basis of the technical specifications of newer and lighter cabs you're wrong, an old 18" speaker can NEVER sound good 😃
  19. I’m in agreement, I’ve liked all of the lightweight setups I’ve had, all were great but whenever I’ve played through an old school rig I’ve noticed a difference, and one that I’ve preferred.
  20. Today
  21. Hi everyone! The Zoom Effect Manager guy did it again. Version 2.2.0 (released last friday) adds support for G1/B1/A1 four/Xfour models. Just awesome. https://zoomeffectmanager.com/en/ EDIT: the site claims any effect can be installed in any device. AFAIK ZDL and ZD2 effects are not interchangeable, but I'm not anywhere near the developer's sapience on the matter so I'll drop by with a veredict as soon as I try this (late afternoon today probably, have just found out about this release).
  22. Have you had a TalkBass-based personality transplant, or something? 🤪
  23. Pm me I'll take it
  24. At rehearsal last night i took my usual barefaced/Orange rig and set up as usual. In the corner of the room was the rehearsal spaces house rig. I plugged in directly to see what it was like, straight in without my cali76 and SV bassrig. WOW!!!! It sounded absolutely massive. Tight, deep and that genuine kick to the chest. Absolutely stunning! I assume most of it was the cab (a big 1x18 peavey) which would be completely out the question for me gigging but it just reminded me that with all this lightweight technology we definitely seem to have lost something. And here it is in all jts glory…
  25. No true bass man, would ever play anything but a P.
  26. The Jazz Bass has been a prominent instrument in the music scene for 65 years now. It's probably not that bad. Personally I like the sound of jazzes and think they can do well for most styles. I also like the way a P sounds in a band, but mostly prefer the warmer and deeper J sounds. Nowadays I prefer flats on most of my basses, with one of my jazzes being strung with La Bella's. Sounds wonderfull and has a bit more booty than rounds.
