wateroftyne Posted March 8, 2010 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Hi all I recently picked up an Auralex Gramma pad from the folks at Bass direct - I've used it a few times now and it's one of the best 40-odd quids I've ever spent. The main reason I bought it is to help me in my battle with the bass-hating stage at a gig I play frequently with a number of different bands. I've played there for years, and the bass is generally a muddy mush thanks to the hollow stage. The Gramma tidies up the messy, wallowy bottom end, and the punch and definition of my cabs is retained. I played there yesterday with one of my bands (who are LOUD, with lots of mics on stage) and our sound chap reckons cutting the rumble has really made his job easier. So.. there you go! We play a lot of social clubs , all with very bad stages so this is going to come in very handy. My tone was a lot more focused and no muddy boom. Very happy with it. warwickhunt Posted March 13, 2010 Share Posted March 13, 2010 I did a gig the other day at a venue which I must have played 20 times over the years (Fat Ox in W Bay for WoT and other locals); it's a medium sized pub gig with a wooden floor. I fired up my rig to soundcheck and was instantly reaching for my amp settings to see why my sound was all WRONG! I scanned my amp for a change of settings... normal, checked I hadn't turned off the tweeter on the cab... on 50% as per normal, disconnected/reconnected my speak-on leads... no difference; I then stood back scratching my ar5e trying to figure out what was wrong! No Gramma Pad! After using the pad for a year or so I've become so used to having a consistent sound from gig to gig that I was completely thrown when I forgot to use it. First of all, in future I'll be using a lil' Ibanez Promethean combo, so if it i'll on the stage floor, hooked with Gramma pad, I'm going to struggle to hear myself, so, if I tilt-up the cab (about 45 degrees or so), will Auralex still work?
