Clarky Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Being sadly bandless, I have been scouring ads on Gumtree and JoinMyBand for a possible bass role. I am staggered by the obscure genres of music, the existence of which I had previously had no knowledge, for which people are advertising. Sludge/doom I get (Black Sabbath etc), shoegaze fine (MBV etc) but crabcore? Especially "unironic crabcore". Really? Quote
hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I can only guess at what type of music that might be, but I'm fairly sure I wouldn't like it. Quote

That's pretty obvious, from the contortions of some guitar players, crouching, limbs akimbo, playing their intense solo. OK, so some of these 'artists' are just showing some degree of Irony, so 'Ironic Crabcore' follows, logically. Imagine, though, if you can, some few players actually do play in this contorted fashion, with no sense of Irony whatsoever. It has to be called something; what better than 'UnIronic Crabcore'..? I don't see the problem. If 'Free Jazz' has any meaning, so, by the same token, has 'UnIronic Crabcore'. 1 Quote

Len_derby Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Itâs a wonderful thing, language. I think anything that helps a potential audience identify what kind of stuff youâre playing is helpful. I remember, pre-internet going to see bands that I knew nothing about, and couldnât find out. Sometimes their name gave you a clue, but not always. Iâm considering relaunching my acoustic trio as playing Country nâ Sludgebucket. Quote

I described one of the original songs the Americana band I'm in plays as Placebo playing Bluegrass đ€ 1 Quote
itu Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I think unicorn rapcore is waiting to be found in the very near future. Snap, crackle and pop is already so last season. 1 Quote

Jackroadkill Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I'm pretty sure that Progressive Vegetarian Grindcore was a thing in the early 2000's. Quote
Clarky Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago TBH when I first read crabcore,I was rather hoping for a crustacean equivalent of Hatebeak, the metal band that features an African Grey Parrot called Waldo as lead singer  https://youtu.be/VwXKR9EWhXo?si=usx3SUCQS1Kl6r0Z Quote
SteveXFR Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago I only play Spongebobcore which is sea shanties played in the style of eastern Peruvian alpaca herder punk. Only played in C# minor pentatonic. Quote
