Being sadly bandless, I have been scouring ads on Gumtree and JoinMyBand for a possible bass role. I am staggered by the obscure genres of music, the existence of which I had previously had no knowledge, for which people are advertising. Sludge/doom I get (Black Sabbath etc), shoegaze fine (MBV etc) but crabcore? Especially "unironic crabcore". Really?

But it makes perfect sense, once unpacked. 'Crabcore'..? That's pretty obvious, from the contortions of some guitar players, crouching, limbs akimbo, playing their intense solo. OK, so some of these 'artists' are just showing some degree of Irony, so 'Ironic Crabcore' follows, logically. Imagine, though, if you can, some few players actually do play in this contorted fashion, with no sense of Irony whatsoever. It has to be called something; what better than 'UnIronic Crabcore'..? I don't see the problem. If 'Free Jazz' has any meaning, so, by the same token, has 'UnIronic Crabcore'. B|
