JV Precision is best bass I've ever played!!

I bought this bass on Ebay recently and am totally blown away. I've owned loads of basses, USA Precisions, Road Worn series, Fender Japan but this trumps them all in my opinion.

 

To me it feels like the perfect bass. I may be being hysterical but I literally can't put it down and have had it for a month now. Wow!!

I bought one with a Rosewood board in 1983, it cost me £249 inc a case, it relegated my 78 Fender to back up.

Sadly life got in the way in 1990 and I had to sell it, along with the rest of my gear. The best Bass I've ever owned!

I had an SQ serial Squier P (SQs succeeded JVs) and it was by a long way the nicest Precision I ever played. Sold it because I'm not really a P player, and always sort of regretted it.

 

 

The 80s MIJ Squiers - JVs particularly -  have a deservedly great reputation, and came from the same factory as MIJ Fenders. The JV prefix was used on Japanese domestic market Fenders in the early 80s, without the small 'Squier' that the first export models had.

I had a couple of JVs.  One was a really early big Fendo logo one, the other a bit later.  The second one was everything I wanted from a Precision and lightweight, too - the best I have ever owned.  Sold when I found long scales too much of a stretch.

I also have an SQ and it's a phenomenal bass. Previous owner 'JV'd' it, with reverse tuners and a older style bbot.

Congrats on your purchase. I'm curious though how many non-Fender basses you've tried/owned?

I feel the same about my JV P.  I’ve not tried loads of basses, but definitely the best and most “me”.

I've owned some Aria Pros and Stingrays. Have tried loads of basses over the years. This one is very special!

Seriously though, I wouldn't buy anything that says Fender on the headstock, but I've owned a dozen Squiers and I'll definitely buy one or two again.

Based on the dopamine hit I get from every bass I try in a store there's truth to this. I want them all 😂 When viewed philosophically though a bass is essentially just two pieces of wood (neck thru and set necks excepted) attached with a few screws and then seasoned with some more pieces of metal and some magnets. They're all more alike than they're different. This mindset helps me to stop buying more 😁

Yes, I believe they did a series of these in the E-serial period (1984-1987). I've always wanted one. I once found one local to me. I made an offer and the seller accepted, but between all emails he got about the bass he lost mine and he sold it to someone else. I found out from their NBD thread on a Dutch forum 

 

Those 1980s MIJ Fenders and Squiers are fantastic. I have little experience with the basses, but a 1985 E-series Squier Strat has been my number one for many years. Best €175 I ever spent.
