TransistorBassMan Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) Apologies if this has already been posted. I searched, but couldn't find anything. I've just had an email from Guitar Guitar about the Pino Palladino Signature Stingray, available in fretted and fretless versions. https://www.music-man.com/instruments/families/basses/pino-palladino Edited 13 hours ago by TransistorBassMan 1 Quote
Beedster Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago So that’s why they’ve not been making FLs for a while 🤔 2 Quote

Terry M. Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) I remember Bass Direct had some limited edition Stingrays some years back and they were priced lower than regular Stingrays. From memory it was because they only came in red or blue (possibly black also),had a gig-bag rather than the usual hardcase, had a 2-band eq and...was poplar-bodied! I have no personal issue with poplar but find it interesting it was used on a cut-price Stingray and now on this Pino re-issue. I wonder if his original was made of it. I've owned poplar basses and it's never bothered me tonally I might add. Ok Google just helped me out,the Stingrays I mentioned were known as "Limited Edition 133" . Bass Direct had a couple back in roughly 2014 and they well under a grand, about £850 or so. Edited 10 hours ago by Terry M. 1 Quote

I must admit that would affect my buying one (if I could afford one!). The sudden step change in body wood looks so obvious, even on the promo pics (ESPECIALLY in the promo pics 😲) Quote

AndyTravis Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I’d love one. But, it’s lottery win levels for me. Probably my favourite player of all time. Quote

Me too, but I won’t be buying one, even if it was priced the same as a non sig ‘Ray. I’ve had 4 ‘Rays, but I’ve never kept them. My other all time fave is Tony Levin, so I have extra inducement to go MM. However, I’m not Pino or Tony (sadly) different things work for me, which is handy, as it’s saving me a fortune . 2 Quote

fretmeister Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Considering how expensive a regular Stingray Special is these days I'm surprised that these aren't more expensive. Fender really took the mickey with their £15000 Phil Lynott P bass so I was expecting about £10K for the Pino Icon. Still mad prices for a bit of wood. But if they've sold 6 already they are clearly making something the punters want. 1 Quote

Wolverinebass Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I think that as Ernie Ball have doing mad prices for everything post covid, I'm surprised the normal one is actually less than 4 grand. It's robbery of course, but considering the players who have famously played Stingrays and maybe not been made enough of, one could argue a Pino signature is somewhat overdue? However, all things aside, I wouldn't get one. Not because I've not spent more than that on a bass, but just because I think it's a minor tweak to a mass produced instrument with a name badge and an extra 1500 quid added to the price. That being said, isn't everyone doing it now? There's much more egregious examples of it about. Anything by Gibson for example. 1 Quote

tegs07 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) Who would have thunk it. Another Basschat mad price thread. Let’s await the next round of ZIRP and QE and see what happens. I think there is a clear pattern for manufacturing outside of the global south and particularly in the USA. Stuff is getting more expensive. Either that or FIAT is losing purchasing power. Nothing aimed at @Bass Direct but it's capitalism and greed gone crazy. We're essentially talking about two pieces of wood bolted together with a few screws. 1 Quote
