Saw this earlier today Mick. Apparently the audience were all in the venue ( 23,000 of them! ) 

when they made the announcement at 8.15pm that Jeff wouldn’t be doing the gig. I think that’s leaving it a 

bit late TBH, especially as he had been having problems at the previous gig, leaving the stage

with assistance etc. People were coming from all over the UK, as well as Europe and the US for

the gig - I just hope they can reclaim some of the costs involved ( hotels / flights / travel etc ) as

well as get a refund on the tickets. Hyde Park this Sunday does indeed look doubtful too. 

 

May I just add that I hope Jeff makes a full recovery as soon as possible - he was quoted as being

’devastated’ for having to cancel the gig. With his broken wrist to cope with as well,  this isn’t the

swan song anybody wanted. Such a shame.

Tbh, I think the powers that be are getting him to save all his energy for Sunday at Hyde Park.....so last night was pulled to get him as much chance as possible of being ready. Sunday, of course, being the last ever live show...

I've seen a few videos from recent shows and Jeff cuts quite a sad figure, not being able to play guitar. He also seems a bit lost in front of the mic at times.

I'm not sure that's the way he would want to end his live career, but I guess there's quite a bit of money involved so cancellation would a last resort.

Such a shame as I love ELO and Jeff bringing the music back after such a long absence was a wonderful thing.

Just watched the BBC thing. Very enjoyable. 

I was a but disappointed that my favourite ELO tune wasn't featured.

Imagine my shock when I interrogated setlist.fm and discovered that Jeff Lynne's ELO have never performed it!

Seems to be symptoms of a Parkinson-like disease. Had to sit for the last few numbers (reports said) and missed cues/seemed out of it.
 

As I said, based on press/Facebook fan reports, I wasn’t there myself. And he is 77…

Such a shame. Always loved the sound of things he was involved in. Would have thought that something akin to Parkinson's would have been noticed, and 'dealt with' or no concert would have gone ahead. I wonder if a stroke of some kind isn't behind the scenario you describe? 
Here's hoping things improve for him, whatever. His music has made millions happy.

As I mentioned before, the clips I've seen of him recently do seem to indicate a cognitive issue. He really does seem lost at times.

Really feel for him. It makes me think of Brian Wilson and all those we've seen before pushing the envelope when time should already have been called.
