NigeJ Posted Wednesday at 15:28 Posted Wednesday at 15:28 Just heard from a good source , that PMT as a whole has gone bump. 3 Quote
snorkie635 Posted Wednesday at 16:31 Posted Wednesday at 16:31 Does that only leave Anderton's and Guitar Guitar from the 'big players' in Britain then? 2 Quote
jonno1981 Posted Wednesday at 17:09 Posted Wednesday at 17:09 Yikes. I really hope the smaller manufacturers don’t get shafted, but they probably will. Tough time to be in big store retail isn’t it. Quote
Machines Posted Wednesday at 17:11 Posted Wednesday at 17:11 Firstly my sympathies are with any affected staff. However unfortunately I feel it was fairly predictable. I felt their stock was very mainstream and they became box shifters with very little USP. I have fond memories of the old Birmingham store and spent a lot of money there in the 2000s. Unfortunately this is a sign of the times, stores need a specialty and just trying to undercut other retailers is a race to the bottom. 1 Quote

neepheid Posted Wednesday at 20:19 Posted Wednesday at 20:19 Looks like that's the plug pulled on the website Quote
walshy Posted Wednesday at 20:29 Posted Wednesday at 20:29 Yeah it sounds like it gone. Sad times man Quote
gjones Posted Wednesday at 20:29 Posted Wednesday at 20:29 So the moral of the story is, if you're planning on buying from the big stores that are left, make sure you pay by credit card or Paypal. Just in case the worst happens. 2 Quote
prowla Posted Wednesday at 20:57 Posted Wednesday at 20:57 I can't say it's a surprise regarding PMT; I used to drop in to the Portsmouth one, but never found much of interest there. There were helpful folks on occasion, but othertimes it could be variable. Sorry for the folks losing out, nonetheless. Quote
soulstar89 Posted Wednesday at 21:05 Posted Wednesday at 21:05 This is very surreal. Literally Saturday gone I was going to head to the pmt is Romford as I wanted a mixer and to try some headphones. I don’t go as I left it to late. In London it’s only Anderson’s that have a very big selection. Went for the first time on Monday. Guitar guitar in Camden is tiny in comparison. So disappointing. Lozz196 Posted Wednesday at 21:13 Posted Wednesday at 21:13 It’s a shame, the Northampton branch which I used to go to was excellent, had good service from them over the past 15 or so years. Quote
PainInTheBass Posted Wednesday at 21:14 Posted Wednesday at 21:14 (edited) The website is still online, but no checkout option on your basket. And just seen the other thread on here with the picture of the administrator details posted on a shop door. Sad times for the staff, gotta feel sorry for anyone in that position. Burns-bass Posted Wednesday at 21:54 Posted Wednesday at 21:54 Went past the shop in Bristol and was going to pop in. Seems a shame. It wasn’t perfect, but wasn’t like the elitist and exclusive shops of the 1980s and 90s. Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted Wednesday at 23:20 Posted Wednesday at 23:20 I always liked PMT. Changing the name fo Professional Music Technology to Play Music Today smacked of desperation and the stores I saw in the last year felt like they were being run down. So that's Gamlins and PMT gone from Cardiff It was Cardiff PMT where I finally felt like a half decent bass player... I was noodling trying out a TE Elf and they turned the background music off 🤣 2 Quote
jazzyvee Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) Just found out this from a non musical friend. https://www.thebusinessdesk.com/yorkshire/news/2140154-musical-instrument-retailer-closes-stores-blaming-shrinking-margins/ Edited 18 hours ago by jazzyvee Quote
snorkie635 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Sad for the staff, sad for us musicians, sad all round really. 2 Quote
knirirr Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Connections to pmtonline.co.uk now timing out, sadly. Quote
Harps Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Ah man, that’s awful. I quite liked the Manchester store - in fact, I was due a trip there on Saturday. Eldest has nearly finished his exams and wants an acoustic skinny string to celebrate. youngest wanted to stare longingly at the Mike McCready strat. But obviously, that’s just a disappointment for us - very sad for the staff. 1 Quote
