The Hiscox brand has too much value to just throw on the scrap heap, I'm certain it will continue, probably manufactured in the Far East although they may wait a while to see how all the Trump tariff nonsense plays out before they make the decision on exactly where, which would explain why they're not taking any more orders at the moment. Depends if you want to risk your name/ legacy or not. If he has enough money to enjoy retirement and pass a bit on, he may not what to. 1 Quote
ash Posted May 21 Posted May 21 It’s sad news, I commented on a Facebook post about them. I still have a few of their cases including one of the older rounder ones. It’s a shame that so many once thriving small companies are having to make these decisions. 2 1 Quote
chris_b Posted May 21 Posted May 21 I always used Fender hard cases until I switched to gig bags, so have never owned or used a Hiscox case, but it is always very sad news when companies supporting musicians stop trading. 1 Quote

It may be that Hiscox will still have some in stock, once they have filled all existing orders. To quote their Website, "If any inventory remains after fulfilling current orders, we will update you as soon as possible with any available stock for purchase." So, because I am looking for a PRS guitar case, I will register with Hiscox for updates. About a year ago, I bought a used Hiscox mandolin case, simply because I planned to buy a mandolin one day soon - and because I had not previously seen a used Hiscox mandolin case for sale. Quote
zbd1960 Posted May 27 Posted May 27 My cello case is a Hiscox. I've had mine about 15 years now and it was £300 then. It's bomb proof, but not light. 1 Quote

My daughter has one too: great protection but the aluminium reinforcement round the edges catches the instrument when putting it in the case. It’s almost impossible to avoid doing this and it has marked it quite badly. Quote

If he can sell the brand name and add something to his retirement pot, good luck to him. And he was building guitars for a good few years before that too. Beautiful lute-back acoustics, if I recall correctly. 2 Quote
tauzero Posted May 31 Posted May 31 I always use gig bags these days so my numerous Hiscox cases are in the loft, now waiting for the prices to start going up... Very good cases. A former band went to Munich three times to gig, my bass went in a Sleazyjet hold in a Hiscox case and was completely untroubled by the experience. 2 Quote
