Cato Posted Tuesday at 04:47 Posted Tuesday at 04:47 (edited) There's a luthier I follow on instagram, Cindy Guitars who's usp is using reclaimed wood she's obtained from various old New York buildings. Some of her instruments can look a little 'distressed' and are probably not to everyone's taste, but as far as I'm aware she doesn't claim any mystical tone properties for them. https://www.cindyguitars.com/ This is an interesting example https://www.cindyguitars.com/#/hshdh-1/ Edited Tuesday at 04:48 by Cato 1 Quote
crazycloud Posted Tuesday at 05:08 Posted Tuesday at 05:08 There was a guy on one of the luthier's fora (maybe TB?) some time back that had a top made of driftwood that looked similar and I quite liked it. There are plenty of barncasters and FSO style clones that are made of all sorts of old timbers; I have some in the shed that will eventually be made into bodies*. However 7300 squids with a load of bollocks in the marketing type mean I wouldn't go near it, unless it was in a store nearby and I could try it for interest's sake. Might even be good. * Because I like the aesthetic. Oh, and I don't buy into the tonewood thing at all. 1 Quote

W1_Pro Posted Tuesday at 10:53 Posted Tuesday at 10:53 Maybe each hole acts like a tiny folded horn and projects monumental bass waaay into the stratosphere? 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted Tuesday at 11:38 Posted Tuesday at 11:38 That said, this technique is not really new and Robert Benedetto made two acoustic archtop guitars with similar wood, simply stating that the sound holes were already naturally constructed by the worms. "Il Teredo (Serial #S1416GP) The sound holes are naturally constructed by the Teredo mollusk, also known as the Ship Worm. One of the most unique guitars we've made!" 5 Quote
ead Posted Tuesday at 11:47 Posted Tuesday at 11:47 Suddenly the Fodera P bass looks to be good value. 6 Quote
Dood Posted Tuesday at 11:54 Posted Tuesday at 11:54 Now I get it! I could never understand how people on Farcebook Marketplace had the gall to sell garage ridden overpriced guitar tat. They were just placing the instruments in a pro-toneworm environment to enrich the instrument's inherent musical qualities! 1 3 Quote
ead Posted Tuesday at 11:56 Posted Tuesday at 11:56 I'm going to check what I have knocking about in the garage at lunchtime. 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted Tuesday at 13:04 Posted Tuesday at 13:04 BTW reviewed the Michael League signature model a little while ago.. Sounds nice... like any good P bass. 1 1 Quote
snorkie635 Posted Tuesday at 13:15 Posted Tuesday at 13:15 Sounds fine, but not the Holey Grail it claims to be. 2 4 Quote

Mykesbass Posted Tuesday at 16:13 Posted Tuesday at 16:13 I've got to pull some fence posts and large planks of wood from the canal in Tipton tomorrow - any bids from our budding luthiers? 1 Quote

Bagman Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Laugh all you want but I think Wenge is it's own thing I have MTD , Tobias, and Warwick wenge instruments , and I think they are "snappier" if that's what you want Quote

That said, I'm with you concerning tonewood. 😉 Quote

Someone has a Streamer Broadneck on ebay for sale at the minute (I also have one) with the fretboard wood being described as rosewood. I messaged them letting them know it was wenge a few weeks ago but was ignored and the description still says rosewood. I guess I was surprised an actual owner of one would make that error but hey...
