ian61 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Just wondering if there's any room here for a considered, learned alternative view? There's no doubting their enormous original talent ,superb writing and musicianship but Ive always found Pearts drum work akin to nails on a blackboard. In essence Ive never warmed to them even tho I grew up with them and my best friend back then was/is still probably the greatest Lifeson impersonator on YT. In fact I think he was the first guitarist to launch a Rush playalong channel so to speak. But anyway, Pearts drumming.? I just cannot warm to it. Quote
ProjeKtWEREWOLF Posted February 25 Posted February 25 (edited) I can take it or leave it to be honest. I've never liked Geddy Lee's vocals. I appreciate the musical competence, but it doesn't move me. It lacks that *magic* for me. I've probably broken several laws as both a drummer and bassist. Edited February 25 by ProjeKtWEREWOLF Quote
dmccombe7 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Its funny how we all differ in opinions but Geddy's vocals was one of the reasons i liked them. For me it blended well with the music and was different from the average singer. His voice has always been a bit of a "marmite" thing even back in 76 when i first heard them the vocals were a discussion point on radio shows and magazine. Dave 1 Quote

Dave I remember first hearing Rush on the very first 'Kerrang the Album' whenever that came out. My opinion hasn't changed despite multiple attempts to overlook it. I do admit that vocals and (for some reason) snare drum sound can be a make or break thing for me. 🤔 1 Quote

You do realise that now you've put that in my head i'll be listening to snare drums from here on in. Dave 1 Quote

The snare drum sound on Slipknot 'Iowa' pushed me so far into black metal, you wouldn't believe it haha. And yes, I get the irony of that, but I'm still a production snob. 😉 H Edited February 25 by ProjeKtWEREWOLF 1 Quote

toneknob Posted October 6 Posted October 6 the blurb of the email, in case you're not on the list: "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® Inductees, GRAMMY® Award-nominated icons, and RUSH Co-Founders Geddy Lee [bass, keys, vocals] and Alex Lifeson [guitar, vocals] have announced their return to the stage for a very special 2026 headline tour, Fifty Something, in celebration of RUSH’s music, legacy, and the life of late drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. It notably marks the first time Lee and Lifeson have toured together in eleven years since the finale of RUSH’s R40 Tour on August 1, 2015 at the Forum in Los Angeles, CA, bringing it full circle with a return to the Forum to embark upon these special shows. Of the tour, Geddy Lee says: “It’s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of RUSH alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil. A lifetime’s worth of songs that we had put our cumulative hearts and souls into writing, recording and playing together onstage. And so, after all that has gone down since that last show, Alex and I have done some serious soul searching and come to the decision that we f***ing miss it, and that it’s time for a celebration of 50-something years of RUSH music. So in 2026, my BFF Lerxst (aka Alex Lifeson) and I are going to hit the road once again to pay tribute to our past and to Neil by performing a vast selection of RUSH songs in a handful of cities. No small task, because as we all know Neil was irreplaceable. Yet life is full of surprises, and we have been introduced to another remarkable person; an incredible drummer and musician who is adding another chapter to our story while continuing her own fascinating musical journey. Her name is Anika Nilles, and we could not be more excited to introduce her to our loyal and dedicated RUSH fanbase, whom, we know, will give her every chance to live up to that near impossible role. Before we hit the stage, we also hope to add another musician or two to expand our sound a wee bit and free up Alex and I, in order to show off some of our new fancy dance steps. Lerxst, Anika and myself, along with many of our longstanding crew members have been hard at work rehearsing and designing the kind of RUSH show you’ve grown accustomed to expect from us. We dearly hope you will come along and help us celebrate our history together.” Carrie Nuttall-Peart and Olivia Peart, Neil’s widow and daughter share: “We are thrilled to support the Fifty Something tour, celebrating a band whose music has resonated and inspired fans for generations, and to honor Neil’s extraordinary legacy as both a drummer and lyricist. Neil’s musicianship was singular. Compositions of intricacy and power that expanded what rhythm itself could express. As both drummer and lyricist, he was irreplaceable. Inimitable in his artistry, and unmatched in the depth and imagination he brought to the lyrics that inspired and moved so many, he profoundly shaped how fans connected with him and the band, giving voice and meaning to their own lives. As the band enters this new chapter, it promises to be truly unforgettable. We are excited to see how their new vision unfolds, and to hear this legendary music played live once again.” 3 Quote
Geddys nose Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Good choice having a separate keyboard player too. Quote
toneknob Posted October 6 Posted October 6 There's a slim chance I'll be in California in the first week of June 🛫 1 Quote
wateroftyne Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Whey ya bugger… didn’t see that coming. IMO... mixed feelings. The video is heartwarming. She’s an amazing drummer. Keys player is a good shout. BUT Ged’n’Al were already struggling to pull it off 10 years ago. I’d rather they got guest vox in, and called it an evening with Ged’n’Al. Mind, if they come to the UK, I’m there. 1 Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) Just saw this ! I won’t be purchasing the box set . I have 99% of their catalogue anyway . I may pay for separate downloaded tracks , or wait till R60 As for going to see the Rush tribute , I have more or less quit going to gigs . 2017 was my last one . I will probably purchase dvd or live downloads when they are released. They will probably do the o2 again , which means a soul destroying attempt to get tks in the first place which will not be cheap . Then travel etc . Annika is a great drummer from various clips I’ve seen on the tube . Anyway , if you do manage to catch them congratulations and I’m sure it’ll be a great show ! When they said getting other people in, I did hope that they would get a guest singer too. I didn't bother with the last tour as clearly he couldn't sing most of the earlier stuff, so I doubt it has changed much. Quote
Dood Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Many years ago, I was invited to be part of a touring band and Annika was lined up as drummer. Sadly some politics got involved and it never happened, but that would have been an experience to tick off the bucket list. Such a great player, I love her vibes, a really 'compositional' player like working with Gavin Harrison. Quote
