The concept sounds perfect I haven’t spoken to Martin for a few weeks now as he had other projects to finish off first but I’ll fire him an email later this week to see how he’s getting on
BassmanPaul
A 100w prototype could easily be built on the chassis of the bigger amp. It'll have all the holes needed precut. For that matter you could just pull two of the output tubes. Edited September 16, 2022 by BassmanPaul
ikay
Did this project fall by the wayside or is it still progressing?
Merton
I’ve not heard from, nor chased, Martin since September so I think other things are taking priority at the moment. Will revisit after Christmas I think

ikay
Has there been any further progress on the Stoneham 100W valve amp project?

ikay
Shame, it's been a few months now so maybe it's fallen by the wayside.
Merton
Update from Martin - it’s still on the cards, just been a busy time focussing in existing orders etc. He’s hoping to have a prototype in a YI200 chassis in the next few months and then will be finalising the design of the metal cage for the production model. First run will be 10pcs min due to the min order qty for the metal cage design he’s considering. Edited April 3, 2023 by Merton
warwickhunt
The YI200 was quite a size as I recall, will the physical 'box' be significantly smaller than that?
Merton
Yeah, the initial brief I gave Martin was 40cm wide. The YI200 is just for testing porpoises

Quilly
I think a small footprint 100w all valve head somewhere along the lines of the Ashdown little bastard in terms of size should be a commercial success …if competitively priced. Don’t see why you couldn’t fit 2 KT88s in there without overheating. Martin if you could ask them to add a dummy load function where you can run the head on its own that would be amazing 🤩 Edited April 4, 2023 by Quilly
Downunderwonder
100w worth of dummy would be a bit of extra weight.

Stoneham
I've had an idea of changing the way the standby circuitry works - so while on standby, which removes high voltage to the power valves, there would still be power supplied to preamp and enable the DI out to function as well as rest of preamp. Then, if a valve pops during a gig (which normally stops the amp from working at all) you can at least get a DI signal out of it. Very minimal cost or complexity to do this
