Would it be too much to hope that he’s now spending some time at his majesty’s pleasure?

Doubt it  How would that have come about without going before the Magistrate the other day?

More likely the case got stayed because someone had the flu. More hopefully the Magistrate baulked at the magnitude of it and kicked it upstairs?

What I find odd is you can see a bunch of "first hearings" the previous day all set down for the same 10am  time and all rubber stamped as tbc.

You would think CPS vs Mason has to have been dropped or charges upgraded for there to have been no hearing at all.

I've recently finished 2 weeks of jury service in a different county.

Slightly different because it was Crown Court, but suffice to say very little happened at the time and date it was orginally scheduled for during my stint.

I'm hoping that's the case. I can't imagine any judge being overly impressed by the offence of "pretending to act under the authority of a County Court."

Nothing happens quickly at court unfortunately. Years of reporting on court cases for the local newspaper taught me that.

There’s many fairly dull reasons why cases get delayed or can’t be heard on a certain day/time - awaiting some vital reports, illness, no shows by anyone involved in it, judge/magistrate called away to deal with something else, other unforeseen circumstances etc.

There might sometimes be hearings to agree dates and times of the next hearings, plea and directions hearings, setting any bail conditions, to agree if a case needs to be committed to crown court for sentencing or for trial etc.

There’s a due process to follow in any court case and it moves pretty slowly at times.

Doing a search for "michael mason fraud leicester" brings up quite a few results but all the Facebook links and the links to police pages lead nowhere.

I found one yesterday that still seems to work - - a warning against him by Rockers Reunited:

Many of the other cases down for the day before were recorded as "1st hearing". You would think if anything happened at all there would some note of it. Whatever 1st hearing means it obviously isn't much.

Point being, Mick skates in the meantime until he gets a new date?

courtserve.net has the attached under Leicester Crown Court's listing for Monday 27th October.

Looks like it was kicked up to Crown Court as suspected. Roll on 26th November!

How does that translate to it being kicked up to the Crown Court? Genuine question.

I read this as originally being in the Crown Court list for 27th October but subsequently adjourned to 26th November, which suggests that the earlier Magistrates decision was to refer it to the senior court.

Original case was to be heard in the Magistrates Court. That's like the difference between going for lunch at The Ritz, or McDonalds.

I know the difference between Magistrates and Crown Court. My question was how does that comment confirm that it was in the Magistrates Court and has now been kicked upstairs to the Crown Court?

Only that the original  case was reported as scheduled in the Magistrates Court, disappeared, and the new notice is from the Crown Court. Join the dots.

I’m with @binky_bass on this - how does what @Prog shared tell us it’s Crown Court? Genuinely interested to understand :)

He was due in Leicester Magistrates Court on 7th October, now he's due in Leicester Crown Court on 26th November. It was to be 27th October but it's been postponed due to lack of court time.

I’m guessing on the site he searched both magistrates and crown court listings for the name and it appeared on crown court.

We knew he had the hearing. This suggests the judge decided the convictions would be better served at crown court than magistrate level.

Still doesn’t answer my specific question, which @lowdown kindly has. Thanks all :)

An update for those of us searching for information on the cases relating to Michael Mason.

There was indeed a hearing (at Leicester Magistrates Court) on 10th September 2025.  The result of that hearing was that the defendant was given unconditional bail and the case was sent to the Crown Court.  That next hearing will be on 26th November 2025 at Leicester Crown Court. That's a little over four weeks away.

I found this out by calling the Telephone Enquiries line, here:

0330 808 4407 (Crime customer service centre - Monday to Friday 08:30am to 5pm, Saturday 8:30am to 2pm).  I found those contact details on this page https://www.find-court-tribunal.service.gov.uk/courts/leicester-magistrates-court .

Before I was given the information by the clerk, I was asked to provide a case reference number (33JJ0821825 - which I picked up from when the case was current at Leicester Magistrates Court), and I also needed to confirm my relationship to the case (I was a friend of the victims of the alleged crimes).

I have also made other enquiries about the case - you are welcome to DM me if you are interested (or eager, or impatient), but I expect to be able to share those further details in 20 days time.

I took so long to research the answer, that others replied before I had finished my work! Thanks to others for finding the same answer as mine, but quicker!
