Paul S Posted March 30, 2016 Share Posted March 30, 2016 Reminds me of an ad I put in Gumtree when one of my bands needed a singer. We had a very good response [quote]Frontman needed for covers band. SE Essex rock and pop covers band ‘5 Shades of Grey’ are missing a tint and need a new singer to make the 5[sup]th[/sup] Shade again. The rest of us are aged between 50 and 63 and have been around the block a bit. Our aim is to play 1 or 2 gigs a month to supplement our pensions, not to set the world alight. Sometimes we do charity gigs. Frequent rehearsals (at Mushroom Studios) are necessary to stop us forgetting the tunes. We play a mix of older stuff – if RnB means to you what it means to us then you know the type of material - plus a token sprinkling of newer stuff to please young people. No ‘Sex On Fire’ though. All we ask is that you can pick up and hold a tune, engage with a crowd, are reliable and able to make the necessary commitment to be part of a band. We have PA, lights, comfy stools etc, so all you have to bring to gigs is your own mic and stand. If you can play a harmonica, with or without your teeth in, then all the better. Once your feet are under the table you may be called upon to make the Horlicks. All things considered we are a friendly bunch, don’t take ourselves too seriously but we try to be the best band that we can. In fact we are pretty good as long as we don’t have to stay up too late. As such, it's a great example of how to advertise: they want what they want, they are what they are, and you can tell from the ad if it's going to be your bag or not. Which is what an ad should do.
