That being said I have basses with no markers and std markers and birds but no assymetric markers. It would definately not put me off buying one! I suppose I've got used to center dots or block inlays but dont use them I use the side dots. Vigier, Warwicks with nothing but edge dots. Yamaha Attitude BS Sig with Offset fingerprint markers. Iceni Zoot with offset (small) dots. Musicman Stingray5 fretless (unlined) with edge dots only. TBH, it doesnt' bother me! All I do need is edge markers on fretless basses. I'd like to try a fretted bass with no markers just to see how much I rely on them/ miss them if they're not there. Maybe something at the 12th? The only real no-no for me (oddly) would be LEDs. I know some people like/need them, but they're not for me. My Ray's got central dots, but I've got a few washburns that have 'em offset and I think they nice...it's purely aesthetics tho, like quibbling over the positioning of a headshock logo...really wouldn't make/break a decision to buy one. The fretless has no front dots, as I do think it looks better without, but has black fret markers on a pao ferro board, which I think looks kinda classy too. I just realised my Godin guitar has offset dots too. I'm sure someone has put some thought into it, just not sure what the reasons are! I like it that, when a bass has 'dotted' pickups, the neck has dots too that match. Likewise I don't like dots when you have non-dotted pickups.
