Mpk610p was the winning bidder on my auction and this is what he send once i sent him the invoice....

"hi sorry to mess you about but unfortunately i cant pay for the item now as my washing machine caught fire and i have to replace it and redecorate

hortonfishery and carscostco both sent me messages with links to phishing websites, websites that ask you to type in passwords, usernames, card numbers etc etc. DONT DO IT!

these where the messages they sent me.....

"Thank's to eBay the forum,we already know that you are a scammer, get a real job or something:

www.monitor-ebay.by.ru/monitor.eBaycgi-eBayscammer-FORUM.html"

and...

"Hello, I want to purchase your item but I have seen the same item posted by another seller . It has exact description and pictures as yours. Please let me know who is the real seller . You can still see the item at the seller's on-line store by clicking on the link below or copy and paste it to you browser:

yeah, they got reported.

according to ebay, the messages i got where from people who had their accounts hacked by the exact same scheame they tried to get me with.

so dont go clicking on links from random ppl, otherwise they'll turn you into a scammer without you even knowing it!

bastards.

i fail to see for all the effort they put in, what they get out of it. besides access to peoples ebay accounts.

again, bastards!

Russ

Then the real people who use these accounts aren't scammers - just victims of scams themselves, and who now presumably have their accounts back in their own hands?

Is this the place to point out people who get someone else to drive the bid price up? Its pretty obvious when somone bids x.99 that they aren't hoping to win. Heres an example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...W:IT&ih=014

Oh well, if it's a shill bidding scam, the item will reappear because the "bidder" isn't wanting the item. If not then perhaps you were simply outbid and the person actually wanted the item. You did bid A) a day before the end of the listing and :) a mere 56p above the person's initial stab at beating you. It's such a low value item that it's feasible that catherineh did the following:

1. tried to beat you with 4.99. Failed
2. beat you with 5.99
3. saw how close behind you were
4. put in a higher maximum bid to ensure the win.

Feasible?

Could it not also be that you are extremely tight!! :) If they drove the price up to a whole 10 quid it`s probably still worth it for a decent bridge.

I am extremely tight. As soon as I see a dodge looking bid trying to push me up I stop bidding. Also, my policy is put down my max right away, if someone wants to pay more they can have it.

Looking at some of the stuff the guy has been selling, there's no sign that catherineh has stuck in any other bids on his auctions. In fact he's got several comments in his feedback about what bargains his auctions have been (99p selling price with just the one bid), so there doesn't seem to be any sign of shill bidding from other accounts either.

There's no accounting for what is going on in someone's head when they put a bid in - maybe they are following the logic that if someone will stick on an extra 6p, someone else might put on an extra 11p. And another bidder might take it up to 55p (because the 50p mark is a logical staging post in low value auctions) - as in fact you did. So she outsmarts everyone by putting in a bid of an extra 99p - it's only 99p, right?

Why not round it off to the whole pound? Because thats the start of the whole process again, and maybe she only wanted to pay a fiver plus the 99p she thought she might need to outbid all the others adding random amounts.

Or maybe 99 is just her lucky number.

Whatever the case is, I haven't seen anything that suggests shill bidding.

less pointing out a scammer, more pointing out his hilarious denial of the fact that he knows it's not a fender. 'i am selling a bass not serial number' haha.

I'm pretty blown away by the number of dodgy basses being passed off on ebay at present. Most are using the "I don't know what it is but i've owned it since 1973 when I paid £450 and the shop said it was a Fender" or "I don't know what it is but it was in my uncle's attic and he played bass for the Rolling Stones" angles. If in doubt, post it on here and we'll hurl abuse at the seller :)

If you see this Ltd Ed Streamer on eBay give a big shout out and warn others off. I have a feeling that as he's scammed someone once (the Warwick forum tale) and he's tried it again on here, then he may chance his arm on eBay! :)

warwickhunt is a great guy, but everytime I come to this forum his profile pic is always here - since 2009 - and I just got a bit tired of thinking there was some really interesting post he added too....

mind you this hasn't been used since 2009 maybe time to unpin it?

With Ebay's brutal oppression of sellers, its bidders that are the potential problem causers now, that thread is here: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1734439

I'm glad you posted that. You used to be able to give negative feedback to buyers but this was ended some years ago making a farce in my mind out of the feedback system. I have bought and sold many items successfully on ebay but as a seller have had dozens of items where the winning bidder (usually with no reason given) didn't pay up. Of course i haven't sent the item but the hassle of filing a claim etc makes this a real time consuming pain.
I've even had 'buyers' email to tell me that that have bought a similar item that day so no longer want the one they bought from me! I've also had a 'buyer' that had bid (and won the auction) on the same item from myself and another seller but had only bought the lower priced one leaving me to file a claim to receive a refund which really is a hassle (this was Bass Guitar item related by the way!).

You have the option of blocking people with x number of unpaid item cases against the too. Mine is set:

Block buyers who:

Have received 2 unpaid item(s) recorded on their account within 1 month(s)

I've done the same re: Blocking buyers and have a list of over thirty blocked bidders who were either non-payers or very late payers etc.

Share them. PM if funny about it. All about stopping them before having to deal with them.
