Guest MoJo Posted May 31, 2015 Share Posted May 31, 2015 I recently bought what was advertised as a 'Squire' on ebay. It was covered in stickers which have taken me hours with nail polish remover to get off. The pickguard is still a mess as you can see below. I noticed that it has 12 fixing screws. The one that is usually behind the pickups is absent. Comparing it to a pickguard I removed from a Silver Series Squier, it is different in a number of areas. Trawling the internet, the nearest I can find to it is the Aria STB Series. Now I'm beginning to think I may have bought a bitsa. Lozz196 Posted May 31, 2015 Share Posted May 31, 2015 The pickguard on my Korean Squier Precision is 13 holes Mark, but it is shaped a bit different to the Fender ones - the screw holes don`t line up and the pickup holes are slightly out in comparison to a regular one. In fact all three Korean Squier Precisions I`ve had the pickguards were odd shaped, and from recall all were different to each other. One was one-ply, my current one is three-ply and I`m fairly sure one was a 12 screw hole job. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They are a slightly different shape and the screw holes are in a marginally different location. Where the stickers haven't been it's aged nicely to an off white. Marc S Posted June 1, 2015 Share Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) Some photos of the bass might be best, to judge whether it is, or isn't a Squier Mind you, the basses themselves tend to vary, depending on when / where made I can tell you, I tried a couple of different scratchplates on my Indonesian PJ One from an older (I think Korean) Squier was slightly different shape, and the holes were mostly out Some more than others.... Similar story with a plate of a Mex P bass In the end, I got a no-name plate, and more holes lined up on that, than the Squier or the Mex! Right shape too - but I suppose you take a gamble when you get some other brand from ebay luckily, this one paid off EDIT: I should say, the old Squier plate was only slightly different shape The neck pocket was slightly out of alignment, and tended to make the lower point look more out of true than anything else (It was slight - but niggled me a bit) Edited June 1, 2015 by Marc S Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Roger2611 Posted June 1, 2015 Share Posted June 1, 2015 Looks like a Squier neck but the bridge is wrong for a Fender bass, it could have been swapped at some point though, also not sure I have ever seen a Fender in that colour but again I could be wrong! As can be seen from the pictures below, without moving the key, the shaft can be rotated through 45 degrees.
