Re. Sweet. Didn't they do a B-side called Burning? That was a lot heavier than their singles.
Heavily influenced by Immigrant Song, but "Burning" was my first hearing of the "real" Sweet. If you look for the live version on YT you'll hear why Sweet were banned from many venues after just one appearance.

It Bites did some good b-sides. I'll Meet You In The Spring is prob my favourite. It's good to remember a time when you didn't just get four mixes of the single.

Also, anyone remember the T Rex's Solid Gold Easy Action B-side - Born to Boogie is the B-side but with a Christmas message from Marc Bolan at the start of the track.
Oh yes. "Hi this is Marc Bolan. I'd like to wish you a super funk Christmas and a ?golden? New Year".

The B-side of Gary Glitter's single "Rock and roll" was "Rock and roll part 2", the side that finished up being the hit.

I always loved Lilly of the Valley, which was the B side of Now I'm Here by Queen. I haven't googled it, bit I don't think it was an album track.
It was on Sheer Heart Attack.

I remember a Neil Young single - Probably Heart of Gold not sure. The B side was Sugar Mountain, which got played more on pub jukeboxes than the A side.

iirc Stevie Wonder released I Don't Know, as an A side with Cherie Amor as the B side, 6 months later My Cherie Amor as an A side, with I Dont Know Why I Love You as the B side. Now that's what I call clever marketing.

The b-side of London Calling by The Clash was their very wonderful version of the very wonderful Armagideon Time.

I just found a box of 7" singles this afternoon, I should have a look through and see what other good b-sides turn up.

EDIT: Found some more.

Faith No More - A Small Victory b/w Let's Lynch The Landlord

Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood - Lady Bird b/w Sand

Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army b/w My Funny Valentine

Killing Joke - Requiem b/w Change

Darts - Come back My Love b/w Naff Off

The Clash had some great B sides and so did the Pistols (not the Rock and Roll Swindle farce). Killing Joke too... :)

Ah, thanks. :-) As you can tell, I'm not a huge Queen fan. But I love that single (both sides!) :-)
At a bit of a tangent - have a listen to Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack, there's some other tracks that I think you'd like (Nevermore and White Queen spring to mind).

B-side to New Order's first single is one of my favourite songs of all time. The A-side is Ceremony, a track they wrote as Joy Division with Ian Curtis shortly before his suicide. The B-side is an almost suffocatingly dense and dark track called In A Lonely Place:

Some of the Sisters of Mercy B-sides where on a par with the A-sides, or in the case of the two singles from their first album actually classics in their own right:

Then there was "Eat Me Drink Me Love Me" by Pop Will Eat Itself, B-side of "Karmadrome", complete with Ofra Haza samples (see also the second release of the Sisters of Mercy "Temple Of Love"):

Brilliant lyrics as well:

Escaping the twilight, drinking till sunrise
I never thought a head like this would persist
I could be dead at 33 like Belushi
Drain myself away like Hancock in Sydney
Who knows? Who cares?
Who'll remember anyway?

Welcome to hell
Spend your time in hell
I could try to change it but it suits me too well
A not so private hell

You feed my hunger but drown all my senses
In the satisfaction stakes, it's like sitting on the number nine bus
I can't stop me, you can't stop me, I can't stop me, you can't stop me
One's too many, ten's not enough

Welcome to hell
Spend your time in hell
I could try to change it but it suits me too well
A not so private hell, welcome to hell

Feels good to be back with Charlie and Hattie and my memory lapse
Welcome to hell, welcome to hell, welcome to hell...

Def Leppard - Release Me, B side to Animal

Sung by their (then) guitar tech (now tour manager).

So good that, legend has it, the Greeks flipped A and B side and it went to number one. It is hilarious, you need to wait for the key change:
