USA P Bass worth the money?

I have a 2008 US Precision. These are really great basses. There is no need to change anything at all, the pickups are excellent and all the hardware is top notch and the case is as good as it gets.

I'd just go for a post 2008 US Precision and be done. No changing pickups, bridge or anything else, and no having to buy a case.

Frank.

It's turn of the century Precisions for me. I have a couple of 1999 models and have never heard or played better

I had the long term loan of a 98 USA Standard and wasn't that impressed - I guess the old Qc issues have always been apparent. My newly acquired JV0 Squier leaves it for dust. Frankly, so did my old Silver Series Squier P.

you'd be hard pressed to find many precisions that it don't I think!

I'm playing a 2013 Am. Standard PBass that is very well put together. I bought mine new, but I wouldn't have a problem going with a good used Am. Standard either. It's an individual preference weather the Am. Standard is worth the price over the Am. Special for example. I think it is. I would go for a good used Am. Standard, over a new Am. Special.

Definitely worth the money IMHO.

Quality instrument, quality hard case.....look after it and it'll play for a lifetime.

Yes! Totally. Great necks, bodies, love the high mass bridge with optional loading thru or over, great pickups. Worth ever */&$ing penny!

Those who say they are over prices don't know their B-ass from their elbow. Here's a second hand pristine from Mark at Bass Direct http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_USA_P_4.html

i totally agree,love mine it's a great bass.
Plus i got mine very recently brand new for considerably less than the one at B'Direct.
Mine is a 2008 which was hanging in a local shop for the last five years, needless to say they wanted rid of it so i bought it for a very good price indeed.
Its a cracker & is going no where.

Yes yours would be exactly the same as a 2013 with the only difference being the pickup because from 2012 onwards these come with a vintage custom shop (hotter) p/up but to be honest mine is a 2011 and pre the new pickup and I find it very good so I can't really see the improvement, my 2011 sounds perfectly balanced and has a tone that comes out through the muddiest of mixes. Oh and... the 2011 has a special commemorative back plate to celebrate 60 years since the Precision was introduced.

Love that neck plate, very tasty indeed.
I have had a love hate relationship with Fenders for a few years but always gravitate back to one in the end.
You'd think i'd have learnt by now :)
Really pleased with this P though, its white/tort/rosewood it just needs a set of flats,Ernie Ball Group II's incoming.

Some people may not agree but I think if you are spending £1k + on a bass (new), then the quality control should weed out the nasties, not the customer, so instances of less than acceptable basses would be much lower and inexperienced customers would have less chance of picking up a lemon.

Bought one about a year ago from another bc'er in mint condition, hasn't let me down yet and since joining a band in Feb this year that was doing a lot of 90's indie stuff it's become my main gigging bass at present. It's a 2001 50th P bass anniversary which also has a commemorative neck plate but not as fancy as the 60th anniv plate shown on this thread. Nice tweed repro carry case too. I've just checked and there's one like it still for sale on eBay from some music shop but it's wayyy overpriced. Don't think I'd ever buy a new Fender though, plenty good ones around S/H to make great savings on.

I find the precision when played by its self is maybe not the nicest bass tone but there but there is something unique about how they sound in the mix with a band that I just have not heard from any other bass I love them! and they crop up is so many different styles of music as well and never sound bad / out of place. I will allways own a precision
