In all fairness, I think we should be told which of your existing set list he doesn't want to do ... we might agree with him!

Agreed. And sometimes some fresh blood with different ideas is what's needed in a band

We're a pub covers band. Here's our setlist - you wouldn't believe how much time I've spent getting the more recent songs included. Singer's choices are starred;

Mustang Sally *
Dakota - Stereophonics *
Importance of being idle - Oasis
Brown Sugar - Rolling Stones *
She does it right - Dr Feelgood *
She sells sanctuary - The Cult
Mollys Chambers - Kings of Leon
Blues hand me down - Vintage Trouble
Louie Louie - The Kinsmen
20th Century Boy - T Rex
Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis *
Hard to handle - Black Crowes *
Ballad of John and Yoko - The Beatles
Losing my religion - REM
Are you gonna be my girl - Jet

Teenage kicks - The Undertones
I can't explain - The Who
Ever fallen in love - The Buzzcocks

There is always a margin for compromise and sacrifice with each member of the band when it comes to song selection or music style, but above all you have to show enthusiasm for the band that you are performing with. In other words, there needs to be a consensus of opinion when it comes to putting a set list together that keeps everyone happy and above all gets the best performance from you. Yes, one or two songs might not turn your crank personally, but you have to remain mature about these things and get through it...it's not the end of the world. I

I would take encouragement from a new band member that is showing enthusiasm to freshen things up and make their mark on the band, but if the changes are not agreeable or that person is showing no willingness to perform your back catalogue then maybe that person is not right for the job.

As an old Bob with very fond memories of the songs the singer suggested, I'd have to say terminate him with savage speed and sprinkle quicklime over the body.

To me his list just screams 'old mens hobby band'. OK, on the night maybe one might pull 2 or 3 out as LCD crowd pleasers, but that list (as an entirety and as the foundation of a set) would have been stale 20 years ago.

10/10 for 'Lonely Boy'!
Then immediately 0/10 for 'Mustang Sally'!!

C'maan!! Mustang Sally? Mustang Sally? NOOOOOO!!!!

*Hides in the current mrs discreet's knicker cupboard to avoid tirade about why Mustang Sally is punter's favourite and should be played because that's what the public wants, etc.*

Sorry, but I agree with the Skank. :)

Agree to his terms, invite him along for a rehearsal - then hide some crack in his belongings and dob him in to the filth.
Works every time! :D

Have you forgotten what she said she'd do if she caught you wearing them again?

Funnily eough we do both tunes - at either end of the 2nd set.

And no backlash from me re.Mustang Sally. We play it because we like to , not because it's what anyone else wants. We just play it like it wipes its arse on its own underpants.

I think I'd quite like to hear that.
We end it by turning into 'Shout' too - by which time I'm usually in the audience dancing around half cut with the drummers - his son gets up on the drums - and the stage is covered in punters - the curvy and hopefully loose kind - doing backing vocals.

Why not - it's my night out too !!!

[thread hijack] is lonely boy an 'in' song ? to listen to it it is a touch lack lustre, our lead guitar suggested it as the kids love it , and after 15mins we had a good dynamic sound to it , but is it a crowd pleaser ? [/thread hijack]

He may well chuck his hair gel out of his man bag but that's his problem.
i just lold

make sure you confront him with all the above comments about him being a lazy arse prima donna unwilling to learn YOUR set list ....

but most importantly .......

make sure somebody in your band youtubes him when he throws his hair gel out the man bag and post it up on here - just think of it as your civic responsibility to the performing arts community :D
