Man i am loving my new Lava leads.Top price, but the build quality and when you plug them in they are in. Not sure about tech stuff but these are going to last longer than me thats for sure.

Definatley. Basschats very own OBBM produces some quality leads, very good prices too. Really noticed the difference, when A/Bd with my Planet Waves leads - much more depth and all over even tone.

Really? That is interesting. I've recently bought myself some planet waves cable simply for the lifetime guarantee, I don't think my tone suffers for it par se but its an interesting one.

I was never unhappy with my Planet Waves leads, but my main one, after much gigging started to look rather sorry for itself. Had read a few things on here about OBBM, so ordered one. Tried it at home through my practice amp, and it was very noticeable how much more the lows came through, and a much more even-ness over the whole tonal spectrum.

To give a description, my Planet Waves lead sounds like I`ve reduced the bass by 1 on the amp, and increades the mids by 1, in comparsion to my OBBM lead.

I also changed to Lava Cables from Planet Waves and although it hurt when I bought them I have noticed an improved in tone. Just better clarity. Obviously when playing live and loud there probably isn't THAT much difference to the listener.

The main thing for me though is the build quality. They are like the SAS of leads. My planet waves would start to crackle after a few months heavy use but I've had one Lava Cable since July and it has withstood everything. Not a single crackle or slight bit of damage.

Also - what is quite interesting to know - the Planet waves have those sprung jacks that "hold" them in your bass...after many chats with Warwick owners this actually buggers the inside of the jack socket up by applying unnecessary pressure. Happened to my FNA Jazzman and Thumb.

Yep I'm a Warwick owner who despises the PW leads! I'm sure it's not specific to Warwick basses probably the type of barrel socket that is installed on Warwicks just seems to get grief from the PW jacks.

Might wanna put that receipt somewhere safe. My last planet waves cable didn't last very long at all.

One was supplied with my Variax guitar. The guitar kept cutting out. When I put a reasonable quality stereo J-J lead (for the phantom power) in its place, the problem went away.

I took advice from BC readers and bought an OBBM speaker cable and noticed the difference. Changed tone to a more even, smoother sound without changing amp settings. Very surprised as I'm an Instrument Engineer and should know about differences in cabling.

I used to make my own bass leads many moons ago using twin core, sheathed co-ax instrument cable which lasted a long time until they were pinched by another band.

I have one remaining which is now 25 yrs old and still going strong.

I think the twin core gives them that added strength and durability whereas single core co-ax tends to break down more easily with wear and tear.

Will look at gradually changing all my cables to OBBM over coming year as they are extremely well made and sound better into the bargain.

Cheers
Dave

I sliced the ends off a planet waves cable and put neutrik jacks on it as I was unhappy with the the PW ones wrecking the sockets but the cable is cheap and nasty anyway and nowhere near as good as Van Damme. That old bodged cable is in the gig bag as a "spare for a spare for a spare" or the first one that comes out if any strangers from other bands need to borrow a lead :)

I bought a pair of Leem Cables about 6years ago-very pliable they are too but mainly for the lifetime guarantee, and they are still going strong, and I also bought a pair of Planet Waves these are also still going but they did bugger up my o/p jacks on my Hartke so i have changed these to neutriks -best thing i ever did-you'd think that Amp manufacturers would follow certain cabinet manufacturers and put these on the o/p of amps to improve the signal quality-give me neutriks anytime. :)
