1. A couple of months ago I managed to get a Yamaha SBV500, one of the basses "I wish I hadn't sold" X years ago. And it's not the same. Since selling the SBV I've fallen out of love with bass playing a bit and am slowly getting back into it now. I thought having one of favourite basses back would really get me going and inspire me to play and practice like I used to, I am playing more but not playing this bass more. Maybe because I now use a G&L which has a chunkier neck and traditional bodyshape compared to the Yammy. Maybe it's because the Yammy has an EMG preamp while my old one was stock. Maybe my tastes have just changed in the past 8/9 years... Anyway, anyone else got stories of getting "that" bass back and it not working? Or conversely getting "that" bass back and it being exactly like you remember it?
2. Now available in 5 string too.... http://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10155335715542743&id=160781862742
3. As with every combo thread see Fender Rumble or TC electronic range of combos. Very highly regarded and very good prices used. See this threads also: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/240948-the-best-combo-for-under-l1000/page__st__60__p__3252980__hl__combo%20under__fromsearch__1#entry3252980 I'm sure others will be along soon with more recommendations!
4. Hi there, Not sure if this is what you're looking for....but it does both. Has a Pin that can be used upright but also happily plays sideways/normal bass guitar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG54FXn986I Not sure how often they come up but maybe worth looking out for?
5. Just to buck the current trend of dates....1991, anybody think of a particularly special bass from that era?
6. Seems Peter Hook already has his! Can't be far off now. Picture from @BassPlayerMag Instagram
7.
Coming on strong...not sure whether to go with black, white or gold strings....
I stumbled across these a while back, at £25 it's not breaking the bank (compared to other coated/coloured strings) for trying our colour combinations http://www.ebay.co.u...1eH7GpkLoa1VviQ Aurora used to do the coating for DR before DR started doing it in house so they are good quality Andy, I know it's not easy, but you make it look very easy!!
8. Just had a play about with it. It is very good and gives you nearly all the options you could think of! And most helpfully for Adrian, a price! so We don't have to pester him all the time. Only thing I've found it doesn't do so far is let you put split-coil at the bridge position. This is a very niche issue though. Well done to all involved in programming the configurator though!
9. Question, I really like the Sputnik, but I notice it's always the most expensive model but does anyone know if Adrian could cater for a more budget Sputnik? I guess the price comes from the premium woods used for the Sputnik so do you reckon he could do it cheaper with non premium materials? I'm probably best off emailing Adrian but thought I would ask here too.
10. Video on Facebook just been put up announcing the configurator goes live on Monday. Credit cards at the ready....
11. What a beauty! Your search led to me to have a nosey at the Yamaha's available on the Japanese market.....Dangerous. Found a BBVIIx which has a double split P.....must resist, must resist, must resist!
12. Thanks for all the advice guys. My reading isn't awful, a bit rusty so that is something I need to practice. I thought it might be a bit cliquey so will try and look to make some contacts and see what happens.
Great resource here for scores: https://www.reddit.c...lTheatreScores/ There are lots of scores there for some of the most common musicals (and a lot of less common ones). It has given me a good idea of the standard of sight reading required (and mine failed once it got to 6 flats!!), plus it is a much more fun experience practising using these especially as I'm not in a band anymore. It does seem that a lot of the scores would require a bass with a low B though, so that might be a consideration for the OP.
Thanks for that! I'll have a look and try and dredge up all my musical knowledge from the back of my brain
13. Scratch It do one with whatever design you want http://www.originalscratchplates.com/product/epiphone-thunderbird/
14. I see what you mean but I wouldn't rely on these being images of actual basses, as others have pointed out, the grain is exactly the same on all translucent finishes so seems to be a photoshop effort. Like you said not what we expect from Yamaha and probably not what you're going to get.
15. My favourite bit is the "I <3 Chuck Norris" graffiti carved into the back
16. If Thomann get it in stock I may order it and take advantage of the 30 day guarantee. As you pointed out, it was discontinued for a reason so to make another under the same name suggests somethings changed.
17. Ah good man, I am really interested for one. I keep swaying between a B3 which I know are great, but as with all multiFX have 100s of features you wouldn't use. While these Flyrigs appeal to the more practical side of playing and just have the effects you would use. So yes, interested to hear your opinion when you get yours!
18. I played bass for a couple of musicals in Secondary School and really enjoyed the experience of learning the parts and ques. I was just wondering from people who are currently involved in local musicals etc. How did you get involved? Obviously quite a broad question but any advice would be most helpful. Thanks!
19. That Rosewood #001 I am green with envy at the rest of your bass collection if you can afford to part with these
20. Very nice collection there MGB, if you ever want to sell the Organbe BB415, let me know Found this on eBay, a stripped down RBX375(?) Liked the feel of the RBXs but didn't really like the colours, this on the other hand.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-string-yamaha-bass/172631849137?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D777003%26algo%3DDISCL.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40656%26meid%3D6d8c29559ce04b7e82fb5de304a6b0b6%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D272634591257
21. And another with better quality audio
22. And here with a Passive P bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhTNXyyyJvI
23. A guy in the US got a demo one from a dealer. Check his thoughts here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blZt4-Q_Gzs
24. So the original micro Tender Octave got discontinued (wonder why?) But they've got a new Pro version coming out which for budget effects people can only be good news http://www.notreble....aver-pro-pedal/ Seems to have very similar controls to the Micro POG. This is a comparison of the original Tender Octave pedal against a Nano Pog
25. Nope, completely separate brand called Sire. Widely regarded as some of the best basses under £1000.
