  1. Just spotted this on Facebook so had a better look. The GB moderns look fantastic and the Elricks don't look too shabby either. Loaded with ultralites, Nordstrands, Markbass and Babicz, will probably cost about £1700. Will be interesting to see how they stack up against other basses in this price range.
  2. It's nice when something like a simple string change totally revitalises your bass!

Truth. I think back to years gone by when I was inexperienced in terms of bass setup and string choice. I would sell basses because they didn’t feel right…in hindsight a string change could have completely fixed things!

  3. Yup, that's definitely a Sandberg
  4. Hell hath no fury like a pub rocker scorned.
  5. If you need a replacement EHX Tube, looks like you might have a problem. Think the Chinese factory closed and now the Russian option is out of the picture.
  6. I made the mistake of trying a Nighthawk 5 again in GuitarGuitar today. A VM5 is definitely the one, especially with the black label pickups. The sales guys did their very best but I'm just not in the right place to buy one. Definitely regret not buying one a couple of years ago when prices were lower 😅
  7. Sounds very promising! I think I want a Spector, all the reviews seem so good but annoyingly I don't like the look or feel of the Legend series stuff, so I reckon it has to be the Euro. Which is a shame because they are expensive for the use of a bedroom bassist.... 😅 Maybe one day if I gig I'll treat myself to one.
  8. That looks very greeeen
  9. I think Gallery website needs updating from 2018 😂
  10. Not a unsubstantial amount of money in the price increase but get why. Guess it just pushes you into a slightly different tier of brand which is exciting!
  11. To throw another spanner in the works, there is Medium scale (32") basses available - most popular one to dip your toe in the water is the Ibanez Mezzo. Depending on when and if you want to try short scale and want the best possible start, I'd go for a Sandberg Lionel - P bass sounds and the quality is always spot on.
  12. If I wasn't building a P Bass, I'd be messaging my sister in Stratford-upon-Avon and see if she fancies a wee drive 😂
  13. Absolute bargain if its still around for anyone near Oxford £95 https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/yamaha-bbn4-ii-bass-guitar/1426997451
  14. I think in an ideal world we would 2 of each of our basses, one with rounds, one with flats 😁 I've had LaBella Cooper Tapes on my bass for a good while and I do miss the top end of rounds sometimes but appreciate the consistency of tapes/flats. Currently putting together a P Bass which I want to be my flats bass.
  15. Anyone else getting this? Seems like the link to the picture is broken?
  16. A preloved ACGs the best value basses out there. Riduclous quality for the price of a Fender P bass.
  17. So the neck has been relicd. Not quite sure about Danish oil I used on the headstock, bit uneven so might sand it back and do the sides and back again. I'm pleased with the rest of it though!
  18. So neck arrived today, lovely harley benton number and I almost feel bad messing with it. But let the homebrew relic commence! 😁
  19. No need to worry, Yamaha like to create custom basses for artists to keep them on the roster and stop them going elsewhere, but will never make them avaiable as production models.
  20. The bridge arrived today and its exactly what I was looking for! Wee bit of rust and matte finish. Looks the part.
  21. Interesting, so if I went down this route it wouldn't quite sound like the SB-2. I'm a huge fan of G&L and I like the passive on steroids idea so might go with it anyway. Thanks for the info though!
  22. Whilst waiting on parts to arrive I've been thinking more about pickups (can you tell I'm on annual leave 🤔😅) Think I've narrowed it down to either Dimarzio or picking up a G&l MFD. Very different tonally but think I would be happy with either, I guess the Dimarzio is a bit more traditional sounding with the G&L being very modern and less P bass
  23. Decided to drop G&L an email and got a response in under an hour! Turns out you can place parts orders through any G&L dealer. Off to Guitar Guitar I go!
  24. Just wondering if there is anyone in the UK who has stock/could order MFD pickups? I could buy it directly from G&L but shopping is basically the cost of the pickup. Would love to put one in my P bass project.
