I would still call John and get his input before you go to your luthier. It may help your guy better diagnose and correct the problem.
+1, or at least ask your guy if he's seen many JayDees. I wasn't aware of the shorter truss-rod issue, maybe your guy isn't either but luthiers being what they are would be loathe to admit it.

Slugs of fag-packet on a JayDee?? Sacrilige!!! JD's a really good guy - phone the bugger!
So what about this one? http://www.ebay.co.u...d#ht_1783wt_952
Send it back, it's got a crack in it.

Just a bog-standard 4123; only got the Marshall because the head could easily blow the cab up otherwise.
-
It doesn't matter what kind of music it is - or what kind of bass, amp, strap etc. All a player has to do is move me enough to make me want to hear them again, but that's not restricted to just bass.
-
One Marshall 2 x 15", fitted with Marshall spares castors; it was a much easier job fitting them than replacing a pickup. And as just said, they can be pulled off to use the castor mounts as "feet"; but IME they make the bass better as the cab is more isolated, sat fully on the ground the bass is exagerated & woolly. Crappy Mobile pic!

The Bells catalogue was the first place I ever saw a Park Lead & Bass tranny head; lusted after one for a while & ended up getting the Marshall version - though they were nearly identical obviously.
3- Long story short the organisers wanted to look after him, and he's ended up throwing paddies whenever they get someone else in to do music... so they stopped doing that... and he throws a wobbly if they even suggest trying to do anything other than what he wants to do... so they stopped doing that too. *sigh*
Seriously sounds like someone needs to slap his legs & send him to bed without his Coco-pops and no CBBs.
.......................I asked what he wanted me to work on first before a practice, and he informed me that he wants me to learn them EXACTLY as recorded and perfect them to a T before a first practice, otherwise what's the point.............................. ......................... He informs me he refuses to schedule a gig until he thinks the band is ready........................ Since then, he's had another couple of massive rants, expecting me to attend a rehearsal within a days notice, and insisting there will be no provisional gig til a practice. I've now been given an updated set list numbering 30 tracks, and he's not clarified which ones I'm meant to learn verbatim, create parts for, or ignore. I asked for him to specify, he said he mentioned this in an earlier email, I respond with 'what about the new ones' and his response his 'I've already explained all this numerous times in detail I refuse to do it again'.
All you need is, to hear about the $50 fine for playing a bum note & you have a perfect James Brown tribute act.

Dodgy for-sale pictures... do they bother you?
As I understand it - no harm will occur to a valve amp as long as the Standby is OFF. *EDIT* - for clarity, I mean switched to no output.
I've been told by three diff amp techs that it's safe with a valve amp so long as there's no signal received; ie. there's no input lead plugged in. Though it's not something I can ever thing of a worthy reason for doing. Any ad pics would look far better if you want to show an amp fired up by sitting it on a cab, clearly marked as not part of the package. -
Any instrument that I buy must come from a smoke-free, pet-free environment; no high-cholesterol cooking (the stink of chip fat has been known to send me into a swoon). No red-top newspapers (ink transfer to the fretboard); no porn (partly for similar reasons to the newspaper thing, but principally because of the objectification of women); no magnolia decor (the residual vibes stifle my creativity) and a seller who supports inclusive, progressive social policies.
Notice you don't stipulate "an air-conditioned home" to keep the instrument stable in it's lifetime; don't come crying to use if you buy something with a neck like a Sopwith Camels' propellor.

You could explore worse case scenario while you wait for them to answer. If you could get the baffle out to replace it would a 10" speaker fit, would you be up for replacing the weave on the front if so? OR if not, you could glue & screw a new baffle with an 8" hole onto the present one, assuming the spec for the Hurricane speaker is a standard one. I replaced a 8" speaker with a Celestion one (IIRC) & it was a much better sounding amp - for a practise amp anyway - afterwards.
It was freezing outside and roasting in the bar so I put my hard case out of the way and opened it to let my bass warm up. Don't know if it does any good but I have been doing it for 20 years and I have not killed a bass yet.
I'd agree with all said as regards the dropping of the bass but this bit interested me. I've read of owners of vinatge Gibbos bringing a cased guitar indoors but NOT opening it for a while; quite a while, sometimes even hurrying up the acclimatisation with a hair-dryer to the outside of the case. It was apparently done so as to avoid crazing a nitro finish with the sudden shock of coming from hot to cold - or cold to hot with the sudden opening of the case. IF there any truth in it then opening the case straight away would - I guess - remove any benefit of the process.
No receipt was offered at point of uplift
This is what I'd be worried about; I told a ParcelFrace driver that he wasn't getting my uplift when he said he couldn't give me a receipt. Mind you he was a temp (he said) in civvies, in a hired white van & no ID.

[sub]Just to be contrary; John Birch told me to store my bass upright in a case with the strings slightly slackened off, which is what I've always done since.[/sub]
A genuine 1978 - 81 would have a 'big F' Neckplate & black plastic neckplate cushion thingy. The body would have holes for a chrome bridge cover. The pickguard would not have the truss rod cutaway - just a small crescent & it would have pickup cover & finger rest screwholes. That is a colour I've never seen on a Precison of that period. Decal looks similar to my '81. If the neck is genuine I suspect that it may be the only bit that is.
Now that is impressive expertise right there!

Noel Gallagher on Graham Norton tonight
Big_Stu replied to The Dark Lord's topic in General Discussion
Seems like a decent enough bloke;& much better for it from spending time away for the [s]Ian Brown copyist[/s] Liam. The kind of bloke you'd have among your mates enjoying a pint & talking crap; but a "God of Rock" he isn't ........................ not by a couple of dozen light-years. -
We could have a forum for other instruments that's hidden from non-registered users and where only those are allowed to post who have already posted elsewhere
Only if it was organised by a bassist that started them off on the basics. 1. How to remember to pack your leads. 2. how to remember to work without an electric tuner etc.
