Like many I started using earplugs about 7-8 years too late, now aged 32, I have tinnitus in my right ear. I don't care much for filters, just pure all out protection is all that matters now, 35db cut foam earplugs. I can hear the kick, that's all I need!

Having owned a LM2 through a NY122 and now using a TC BH550 through a Vanderkley MNT210 (previous TC K210 cabs), I'd say the Markbass stuff was warm but a bit flat dynamically, there wasn't enough 'pop' to the sound for my tastes. My TC rig gave me that crystalline tone and presence that was lacking and even more so when I moved over to the VK cabs.

£500 In mint condition with less than 8 hours playing time on each. They still smell new! Selling as I have no gigs on the horizon and to have this sat in my living room is a travesty. Beautiful sounding cabs, fat and rich with a very detailed mid-range. Oozing tonal class. Will deliver within a 75 miles radius to Witney in Oxfordshire. Also happy to meet up. Will not post. 17kg in weight each 600 watts power handling 8 ohm impedance.

The Kiloton is the only Stingray-alike I've heard that actually sounds like the real deal. A great sounding instrument. I second the Musicman USA SUB as an alternative (I just happen to be selling one 😂) however I'm not sure where you'd find a mint one for £400 (I paid more than that for mine 3 years ago). When pricing mine up and looking around the net for an idea, they seem to go for more than that now.

That's fair enough! The table lists the BH500 which is the precursor to the 550 and 800 in design. As always with these discussions, I am just going by what my ears tell me and the BH550 I have is in no way lacking in terms of volume/power (I actually found it cleaner than the MB800 I owned funnily enough)

I don't have a source. It's bits and bobs gleamed from the interweb regarding the issue as I was wary of it at the time. Given the fuore over the RH series, im not sure would TC persist with the same rating system on the newer heads? In any case, the RH series were known for compressing hard at volume, I can confirm that there is nothing of the sort with my BH550. It's clean, clear and utterly composed all the way up to stupid volumes. Easily going toe to toe if not surpassing a MB LM3 I used for a while.
-
It's only the RH series that suffered from this wattage/compression issue. The BH series do not and are very much the full 550w and 800w wattage rating claimed.

This appears to be a cut down BH550. Good price though!

£450 Here we have my beloved USA SUB. This has been my main bass over the past 3 years and will be sad to see it go but have been using my Modulus Flea almost exclusively now. It's one of the very first USA SUBs made dating back to May 2003. All original and un-fettered condition all-round aside from a few nicks (worst of all being a scratch on the upper bout that is hardly noticeable). Body is Poplar and the neck has the nicest figured Rosewood I've ever seen on a production bass. Weight is 9lbs. I have recently had a new G-string tuner fitted (official Musicman part) as as with a lot of Musicman basses the original got slightly bent (I will supply this also as it is still functional). Bass will also come with a black pickguard as well as the original metal-look scratchplate Collection only or will meet up/deliver within a 70 mile radius to Witney in West Oxfordshire. Will consider trade for Squier CV 60's Precision or Jazz plus cash my way.

IMO there's no substitute other than to just buy new strings.

Did someone mention sparkles?!

The real deal!

I find red labels and yellow to be far too coarse for my tastes. Decent enough sounding though.

My Modulus Flea hasn't budged a millimeter! 👍

Hi, Recently acquired this from this very website as I was looking for something with a bit more punch over my TC BH550 but weirdly, i'm finding myself unable to tear myself away from my trusty Danish pal. So i'm going to buy a compressor for it and move this along. It's got a very ballsy tone, rich and full bodied, but in conjunction with my Modulus Flea, it's probably too ballsy a combo for my tastes, so on it goes. In very good condtion with only a couple of superficial marks on top of the chassis. £380 delivered - Selling it for what I bought it for (which was already a cheap price for a head that retails at over £650 new). No offers. Will knock off £15 if it is picked up locally.

Thanks for all the replies on the thread! I decided to go for Bagsie Blue's Gallien Krueger MB800 that was up for sale in the for sale section, seemed a good price and worth a try! Well!! You guys were not wrong about GK heads! The presence and authority in the tone is a definite step up. Not an amp for the shy retiring type! Had to dial the treble back SO much at a gig on Friday in Oxford. I had the horn's on my 2x Vanderkley MNT210's dialled back to almost off and the treble cut slightly on my Modulus Flea and it was still a very bright sound. However, that massive grunty bottom end and sheer 'quickness' of the notes was extremely pleasing to the ear. I was also getting a 'slight' bit of overdrive at fairly low gain settings, which confused me a bit, it could just be the Bartolini preamp / Lane Poor combo driving the input stage too hard. (I haven't tried the -10db cut switch but i'd imagine it would clean it up) However, I'd imagine this in conjunction with a quality compressor would get me where I want to be.

Just bought a GK MB800 from Martyn. Good comms and shipped very promptly. Packaged extremely well too. Highly recommended. Many thanks!
