1. I had this exact can you're talking about. It was pretty much all the cab you would ever need. Light, well built. Could handle everything you could throw at it. Stayed very clean and composed at all volumes. Has decent dispersion. Great sensitivity. Highly, highly recommended. The only downside I could mention would be the compression horn made my SUB sound a bit odd when popping or playing aggressively. Not bad, just sort of clanky and flat.
2.
Every time I offer up my own DI box or amp with a DI out, the sound guy snorts, rolls his eyes, gives me a withering look and connects the box he brought with him.
This. Everytime, without fail.
3. I've seen these go for around the £500 mark in the past few years. Nice basses!
4. Looking at possibly pulling the trigger on one, anyone give me the low-down on what it's like and whether it can hold its own in a band setting?
5.
I don't get through strings really but Rotos die really quickly for me.
Same here, Roto's die within a gig with me. Wish I was joking too. No other strings I've used do this.
6. Waited ages for this and finally heard it this morning, It's a bit bland and by the numbers to me. Also I couldn't decide whether the video is either extremely good or extremely bad!
7.
Are you bassist for the Jesus and Mary Chain? Crikey, they must sound really toppy.
Haha! They can be! I tried them out of curiosity once because they were the strings Stuart Zender used throughout his Jamiroquai tenure. I instantly liked the low tension, bouncy, pliable feel and have never looked back since. I find lower gauges a lot more dynamic to the touch and expressive to use.
8. I found a set of these on the cheap and took the plunge, normally I absolutely hate Rotosound with a passion, quite possibly the worst strings I've ever used. Terrible longevity, coarse, sandpaper-like feel and they eat your frets, so I wasn't expecting much from these. The feel is actually not too bad for Roto's, they don't set your fingers ablaze and are not too tacky like many coated strings and much nicer than the coated DR's and GHS I've previously used. Most surprisingly however is just how much they suit the SUB tonally. I've never had a set of strings that complements a bass so well. Really warm and defined yet a nice bite and pop treble wise. They kind of make the SUB sound like a classic ray (even more so), very good to copping the Louis Johnson vibe. They've also held up to 3 weeks of abuse and still sound and feel new with no flaking or chipping. Colour me very impressed!
9. As much as I love Trace and am glad the name continues, it's not really 'Trace' anymore is it? It's all Peavey designed in the USA with very, very little to do with it's original UK origins.
10. My vote goes for the Stone Roses debut. I find it really bland and can't see why it's held in such high regard.
11.
Totally disagree, thank f*ck Barrett left the band, otherwise we would not have the great albums that followed.
This times a million.
12.
+100
And younger!
13. Just seen that the Trace Elliot Facebook page has been updated with a new logo and banner for the first time in years (with a new slogan 'Providing the Pro Solution'). Have we got some new stuff on the way for NAMM? link here https://www.facebook...Elliot/?fref=ts
14.
Unless the controls on your bass do something very different such as the filter EQ of the Wal or ACG, or they allow you to EQ each pickup separately, I really can't see the point as all they do is duplicate what you should already have available on your amp.
Although I like active basses, that is a very good point.
15. IMO it's a given you'll change the strings on a secondhand bass. As long as the bass itself is satisfactory or as described then I don't see the problem. As others have alluded to, I'd always, always change the strings even if they were relatively fresh!
16.
Sigh......... :-)
You did me a favour, Jon!
17. I had the same thing recently, was thinking of selling my USA SUB as I was after a Marcus Miller Jazz but after using the SUB in the studio last week, I was utterly blown away by just how good it sounds. Around 9lbs in weight and easy as you like to play, it's a bloody lovely thing. I was an idiot for considering selling it. I've also just purchased a Status neck for it which should be arriving in a few weeks!
18. The tiny toneprint selector switch in between the two toneprint knobs on my BH550. It's like it was designed for Lego men. It squishes your bloody finger and messes up the set levels on each knob. Also while were at it, the fact you can't blend two at the same time. Stupid stupid stupid.
19. Genuinely not bothered either way. 👍
20. Sold my Markbass cab to Pat today. Good prompt comms and willing to meet halfway travel-wise, a nice bloke to boot. Deal with confidence!
21. The Eq balance control acts like a pivot from the centre band on the EQ IIRC. To the left bumps up the upper mids and highs and to the right boosts the bass and low mids (or was it the other way around?!) It is supposed to be a quick way of fine tuning your sound to the room you're playing in, to cut boom and whatnot quickly and easily.
22.
I thought that rehearsal rooms were made for learning and working out material, along with doing your "home work". I too, am old school, and believe that if you are not gig ready, you should not be on stage.
Nailed it.

Spector
I didn't realise until just recently that Ned Steinberger designed the NS (thence his initials for the name) model. A bit surprising since I consider his L2/XL2 an absolute masterpiece of design, and, to be honest, I've a hard time finding a Spector I don't find completely hideous. That said, the constant praise for these basses have got me, reluctantly, interested. I'm convinced now the build quality will be excellent. They don't, however, look like the type of bass I'd normally like the sound of. How could the Spector sound be described? Is there any song or video I could hear or watch that would give me a good idea of what makes them special? I'm a bit concerned about the lack of a mid control on the tone pump, since I'm very fond of toasty, nutty mids.
Some people may disagree but I'd describe the Spector sound (of my euro4 anyway) as fizzing, growling, grinding and hi-fi. Strong and distinct lows, prominent mids and searing highs. A real full range sound. It really poked out in the mix. Brilliant, brilliant bass.
