1. I forgot to mention the neck profile, which is around the same width wise but thinner front to back, Which I'm finding personally a lot quicker and comfortable.
2. After 2 months of waiting it finally arrived! I'm a bit of a graphite fan after owning a Modulus Flea and after purchasing my SUB, putting a Status neck on it was always on the cards. A Cutlass 1 on a budget! So away it got sent to Status to have the neck attached. Build quality, fret work, fit and finishing is exemplary (as to be expected). Tonally, it has improved the bass tenfold. Stingray on steroids! Heaps more clarity and punch, the growl factor has gone up even more so and it pokes through the mix beautifully. Colour me seriously impressed! (Thanks to Rob and Dawn too, great customer service).
3.
I'm not too concerned about the Toneprint feature. I don't use any effects at all - completely dry signal. The extra 300W of the TC 800 might be useful to have up your sleeve, though. That said, my GKMB500 has always been plenty loud enough. And no - I don't want to use the MB500 with a seperate compressor pedal, thank you!
The Spectracomp 'is' a toneprint.
4. The Spectracomp on my TC BH550 is a thing of wonder!
5. Just bought Rhys's TC K210 cab. Immaculate condition and a good price. Good comms and a nice bloke to boot! Deal with total confidence. Cheers mate!
6. I have a BH550. It's clean and very hi-fi sounding with loads of grunt on tap. In regards to the Toneprints, I just use the Spectracomp toneprint, which is utterly sublime and tubedrive on the other, which again is a very useable effect. All in all it's a brilliant little head.
7.
No different to all their used bass prices then. Especially on Warwicks. They had a Streamer 4LX on their Facebook page for a grand the other day!
I noticed that. An astronomical price for an LX. I sold a near mint 2009 model with the nicer neck profile for a smidge over £500!
8.
Let's say you get your Wal and it's everything you hoped it would be... what then..?
Then I achieve a zen-like bass state!
9. Wal MK1. Since the day I picked up bass 14 years ago, it's always been top of the wanted tree. By the end of summer I hope to have finally put an order in to get the ball rolling!
10. Stuart Zender.
11. Steve just bought my Micro Q-Tron. He was very patient (I'm usually quicker with sending stuff but had a busy week) and polite. Prompt payment, good comms and zero hassle. Deal with confidence. Enjoy Steve!
12. I've been trying to get some players experience/opinions of the EX210 cab. I know Dirk Lance used Eden in his time with Incubus and in some of the live shows/vids his sound with his Warwicks was utterly sublime.
13. My old Jazz did this when I put lighter gauge strings on. The string had room to move in the nut, try a heavier set! Black and Maple is the best combo, congrats!
14. Thanks for the low-down! Sounds great, just what I'm looking for. I'm in a 4 piece covers band, competing with guitar, subtle keys and a fairly restrained drummer, so sounds like it may do the trick! I had a GK mbe410 before and found it a very boomy cab. But this sounds like it will be a bit more focused. Thanks again!
15. As per the title. I'm looking at a one cab solution to pair with my TC BH550. Does anyone use this specific cab? What's it like tonally? And does it shift enough air for smaller stages and smallish outdoor type gigs? Build quality any good? Cheers in advance!
16. For what it's worth the JJB head is just a rebranded Mark King signature head. So one of those is the same thing.
17. I had this exact can you're talking about. It was pretty much all the cab you would ever need. Light, well built. Could handle everything you could throw at it. Stayed very clean and composed at all volumes. Has decent dispersion. Great sensitivity. Highly, highly recommended. The only downside I could mention would be the compression horn made my SUB sound a bit odd when popping or playing aggressively. Not bad, just sort of clanky and flat.
18.
Every time I offer up my own DI box or amp with a DI out, the sound guy snorts, rolls his eyes, gives me a withering look and connects the box he brought with him.
This. Everytime, without fail.
19. I've seen these go for around the £500 mark in the past few years. Nice basses!
20. Looking at possibly pulling the trigger on one, anyone give me the low-down on what it's like and whether it can hold its own in a band setting?
21.
I don't get through strings really but Rotos die really quickly for me.
Same here, Roto's die within a gig with me. Wish I was joking too. No other strings I've used do this.
22. Waited ages for this and finally heard it this morning, It's a bit bland and by the numbers to me. Also I couldn't decide whether the video is either extremely good or extremely bad!
23.
Are you bassist for the Jesus and Mary Chain? Crikey, they must sound really toppy.
Haha! They can be! I tried them out of curiosity once because they were the strings Stuart Zender used throughout his Jamiroquai tenure. I instantly liked the low tension, bouncy, pliable feel and have never looked back since. I find lower gauges a lot more dynamic to the touch and expressive to use.
24. I found a set of these on the cheap and took the plunge, normally I absolutely hate Rotosound with a passion, quite possibly the worst strings I've ever used. Terrible longevity, coarse, sandpaper-like feel and they eat your frets, so I wasn't expecting much from these. The feel is actually not too bad for Roto's, they don't set your fingers ablaze and are not too tacky like many coated strings and much nicer than the coated DR's and GHS I've previously used. Most surprisingly however is just how much they suit the SUB tonally. I've never had a set of strings that complements a bass so well. Really warm and defined yet a nice bite and pop treble wise. They kind of make the SUB sound like a classic ray (even more so), very good to copping the Louis Johnson vibe. They've also held up to 3 weeks of abuse and still sound and feel new with no flaking or chipping. Colour me very impressed!
